49,667 now according to MFC website.

Would that include AFLW memberships?

47,667 not 49,667

Nah it says 49,667

How weird is that. I just checked and it definitely said 47,667 then refreshed and it now says 49,667. Only checked after I read coach's post. It's a bit strange that it jumped that much in one day. Has virtually never done that much of a jump by this stage of the year. Wouldn't surprise me if it's meant to be 47k.

certainly weird

i've checked it now 3 times and it went 49,667 then 47,667 and then just now 49,667 again

If we start the season off well I can see us easily cracking 65,000. People won’t want to miss out on finals guarantees and so forth.

I have put up 47,667 in the spreadsheet on Page 1.

But if the 49K number is correct, then we have signed up 4,500 in the past week?.

However, on the numbers published by the club we only signed up 400 from 28 Feb to 7 March, so it is entirely possible that 49,667 is correct.

I checked back with the Club and they confirmed that it's now 49,667. The guy said his numbers must have been delayed. If that's the case it's been out for weeks which as you say George is quite possible.

Sorry, try “surge”. Serves me right for not proof-reading it. Carlton seems to be popping up everywhere!

I agree, we must have missed out on a few thousand memberships in the second half of last season. There was no incentive to buy a membership when the remaining games and finals were all being played interstate.

Last night should have been 2pm-ish on a Saturday. Imagine the membership signups at the ground and all the kids buying merchandise!! Huge misread by the AFL.

Our next home game is Friday night so when do the kids get to see the Dees at the MCG? Could affect our membership tally.

Well Pert as well, we pushed for this to be the first game of the season.

The time and schedule stopped me flying down from the Northern Rivers.

Metricon is 8PM on a Sat. My 6yo wants to go but with an 80min drive each way, way too late.

Why can’t parents use the internet and but merch and memberships? I don’t buy this ‘more saturdays for kids to get there’ as a spur for that stuff.

im struggling to even get 2 reserved seat memberships, tried sending email, posted my "interest" via the website, and tried ringing the club today but was on hold for over 20 mins....

My son got the new long sleeve clash jumper at half time and the number 11 went straight on. Number 5 on his other jumper though 😉

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front. They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
