If someone says 'speedy hard-nut' about a player, my thoughts immediately go to the small defender role. I think it is one of our few deficiencies not yet invested in through kids coming through.

So, the obvious question I have for the draft watchers; do you think Kynan Brown's attributes shown as a mid and forward can translate into the tough small defender we need.

It might also be a much easier path to cracking the 22, considering the potency and depth of our mids and small forwards.

A review from a BF poster:

K. Brown is a workhorse. His decision making is really good. I love how he values a HB as much as a kick, there aren’t too many that I can confidently say have this mindset. He spent time in the midfield and across HB, but his mid work was strong with 6 clearances. Brown is definitely one that doesn’t get the plaudits he deserves. Dees recruitment staff would be happy with how Brown is progressing. I see him starting as a nippy back pocket like his dad was, but eventually spending time as one of the Dees mids. It doesn’t matter where his selection comes from, he will definitely land a spot on the Dees list.

it's not often these days that kids play primary roles as defenders in their final underage year - the last two i can think of who did so are trent rivers (who was moved to a defender role from midfield) and isaac quaynor

if kynan brown can have the sort of impact that those two boys have had since their debut seasons then we'll be very, very happy

If Quaynor's one on one defending is anything to go by then I would be extremely happy with that.

Can you please compare him to a current player please? Someone in the top 30 players in the comp. Ta.

Honestly he's like a cleaner and quicker version of Jack Viney. Sometimes I even see Josh Daicos as well with how nimble he can be around stoppages.

He's a left footer at similar height. One thing that caught me by surprise watching him was his vision and awareness especially going inside 50.

There were times I thought he was going to blaze away when he would burst out of stoppages but he lowered his eyes and would hit up the leading forward. His ball use is very clean and certainly won't have any issues with delivering the footy inside 50 or around the ground in general.

Really intrigued to see how he's goes this year especially when the under 18's championships start.

No, we have already established he is a left footed Nick Daicos.

Anyone know how young Kynan went in the academy game on the weekend?

Kynan played for the Ogs again in the ammos on Saturday and I was more impressed with his game this week than last. He's got good poise, is quick, and generally makes good decisions.

Was named in OGG’s best against AJAX and was given high praise by one of their fans on the boundary.

Really looking forward to seeing Kynan in the Red and Blue, loved the way that Dogga played.

I loved the way that Doggy Brown played too.  Hard, tenacious, skillful and loyal to the core for the MFC.

That Dogga bloke was ok and played a great 3rd quarter in a MFC premiership, but he doesn't even have a son yet, let alone one that will qualify to play in the red and blue one day! 🤣

Kynan and another elite mid pick could potentially set us up perfectly for the next era. Could have immediate impact at half forward or back also.

From the OGGs match report for Saturday:

We welcomed back Kynan Brown for his 2nd game of the year who really gives us some run and explosion out of the half back line.

Just like his dad. Perfect. Look forward to his development!
