I’d agree with that assessment. You’d hope that he may offer more once his body matures. He maybe be serviceable after a year or two in the 2s.

Watched the first half of today’s game, he looked good from what I saw. Nice goal on the run and liked his hands in close.

I agree his one grab footy ability was good. But he’s very slight and couldn’t break a tackle.  Runs and runs and determination is an asset.

He will be drafted for sure IMO via late pick.

Gets plenty of the ball, runs hard and is fearless. A couple of AFL pre seasons will see him add a bit of size and strength to his frame.

I noted Kynan Brown was listed amongst Vic Metro's best for all 4 of their games but there's not a lot of press about him. Melbourne currently has picks 4, 15, 23, 34, 89. Hopefully that becomes 4, 18, 23, 37 & 92. What's the latest thought about where he's likely to go at the Draft?

I would think a late-matched (a la wee Woewy) or rookie pick. They're not the same type of player but Blake Drury springs to mind with where he fell in the draft after a good year.

So not likely to go in the earlier rounds, and if someone bid for him after that we could use our 5th round pick, or as you say pick him up as a rookie. My understanding with Woewodin is that  they promised him they'd take him with the last pick (65) in the main draft if he wasn't drafed earlier.

The lad is doing everything he can to make it so you gotta love his consistency and efforts.

He looks so small - even in the juniors. 

I can’t imagine he’s going to go within the first couple rounds as he doesn’t look super damaging around the goals and not sure his kicking is as solid as a Judd McVee to play as a lock down defender who can rebound.

Still, he continues to get in the best so I’m keen on the kid and I’m sure he’ll make it to the red and blue as a solid role player.

Vic Metro haven’t been great, and Oakleigh haven’t been great, so being the best player in a bad team doesn’t help. 
I think He doesn’t have a trick - he is a really good solid player who gets the best out of himself. Not unlike Woey or Lachie Hunter in his draft year. They are father son, they are not top tier, so there is no story there. Could see a mid to late second bid, but equally see it dropping to 45ish. Won’t go a rookie though - it’s too shallow for that.

He was in Vic Metro's best players in every game. He is a consistent, reliable accumulator. Plus hard at the ball.

Every team needs these types of players. You know what you are going to get week in/week out.

Loved the way his father played. If he gets close to that level I'd he happy having him as a Melbourne player. I'm not saying you prioritise him but I love to see these father-sons on the list. We got Woey at 65 and he's already showing that that was an astute pick.

I love to see the father-sons come through too. My guess is 50's out to rookie but @ChaserJ might have more insight on him as a player and where he might fall.

The Age is reporting that recruiters think he will go in the 3rd round (pick 45 to 60) which should be easy for us to match.  Especially as JT doesn't use picks outside the 2nd round.

@Lucifers Hero How does this work? With a 20% discount we would need between 120 & 280 points (for a pick in the 45-60 range) to get him. Can we match that with our 5th round pick or isn't that possible as officially there are no points attached to Pick 89? Would we need to go into deficit for 2024 or should we try to do a pick swap to try to get a late 3rd round pick (3rd Round for a future 3rd Round?). This is different from Woewodin in 2021 as we just used Pick 65 as there were no higher bids. I'd hope that the fact that Kynan's a Melbourne F/S might scare a few other potential bidders away.

The 'bold' part is the answer.

I think it is like Woewodin.  iirc in 2021 we did a draft night pick swap of our 3rd round pick (reported as 51) for a future 4th.  Our next pick was 80 something which came in to 65 because teams passed and the number of picks that had been used for points.

Yes, but for Woewodin we didn't have to match a bid from another Club, so we could take him with any late round pick. My understanding was that the Club said to Taj that if he was a higher-round selection by another Club they wouldn't match it but would select him in the main draft if he was still available for Melbourne's last round pick. They coud have taken him as a rookie but there's financial & other implications of doing it via the main rather than rookie draft.

Agree that Kynan currently sits in the 3^rd round range.  I thought he performed really well in the Champs, he has good vision in traffic and can see that he’s done a fair amount of work on his kicking, his use during the champs was much neater than I had seen at Oakleigh last year.  He is clearly a hard worker who won’t leave anything to chance to get on an AFL list, so that already puts him in good stead.  Just not enough game changing traits to lift him inside the top 20, but that is perfectly fine.  There’s enough to work with there for Kynan to carve out a solid career.

Brown benefitted from Vic Metro having a pretty shallow midfield group, there are many other years where he wouldn’t have had such a good run playing inside for Metro.  This allowed him to showcase his attributes well I thought, he put up an incredibly consistent performance across the 4 games (another tick). Brown’s skill set works well in an inside role, but as mentioned elsewhere, his slight frame probably means he won’t play that role at AFL level.  He links up play well and has some pace, so could adapt to a high half forward role or small defender. The work ethic looks to be there, which can often be the difference between being draftable or not.

I mean McVee couldn’t even get drafted until the rookie draft. Things can definitely change.

I always imagined Kynan's name would be pronounced as written ("Ki-nan") but I heard him called "Keenan" somewhere just recently.  Can anybody confirm the correct way to say it?

The work ethic is definitely there. He seemed to be at nearly every stoppage against Vic Country.

maybe depends whether you live in melnourne or belfast?
