I reckon Dogga Brown Jnr looks a beauty. More pace to add to Caleb Windsor too.

I wonder what his tank and aerobic ceiling is. He's a fraction small perhaps for the wing, but probably no smaller than Hunter, and much quicker, with a strong ability to win the contest and release by hand, and neat by foot.

Lots to work with. A bit of a steal as a rookie IMO.

His highlights are up there with the best of the same type of players from this draft year - he could be a ripper. Feel he’ll get the best out of himself regardless.

Looks similar to and plays a lot like Sydney’s ‘The Lizard’ albeit with a shorter frame but the left foot and fast feet are a serious match.

With great respect your comparison of Kynan to  the Lizard of the Swans really ends with being a left foot kick.

Blakey looks like a beautiful gliding Rolls Royce vehicle across the turf and  Kynan a small medium Cortina, however no less effective in his highlights.

The weapon Kynan appears to have is his tenacity tackling and speed to break away and to dispose purposely.

Could well be a great addition to our midfield and like the fact that he is a leftie.

All the best Kynan just be yourself and we know you will get the very best out of yourself.

Thanks for that.

I'm not sure it is the latest as there is no reference to NGA players and how they become A or B rookies.  And the matching of F/S bids doesn't talk using points.

I guess it isn't critical to our list management atm so will leave it as a grey area (in my mind anyway) for now.

For those that watched the Coates league a bit more closely, I confess from the video's I don't see the knock on Brown and why he didn't go in the main draft, looks to have good speed, decent hands, and a fairly neat kick (both for goal and in general play)
Is it that he just doesn't have a big 'weapon' in his arsenal?  i.e not overly tall, quick, or that type of thing?

.... other than pretty poor mullet, Kynan looks a pretty handy pick up for the club as a rookie.

The below sounds a bit nebulous but thought I’d share anyway….

I asked a mate who is a part time scout for an interstate club if he’d seen Kynan play. He has. “Shredded, slightly undersized inside mid who goes unnoticed for periods in a game due to his work at the contest”

Reckons he’s got some elite traits that will translate to AFL. Ball winning, mental toughness and vision but also thinks he should play half forward as he could be elite in that role. Pressure, tackling, vision and hard running.
He thought Kynan wouldn’t be a pure mid in the AFL and is not a 1st round talent at this stage. (For context there’s 10ish players he feels are definite 1st round locks with 20-30 players including Kynan to follow)

He also had no idea where the club he reports to rated him but they consider it a lock that we’ll take him in the 25-40 range which he thinks would be pretty good value from what he’s seen.

on a separate note, is Trav Johnstone’s kid still playing? I remember seeing a pic of him at the David Neitz Academy.

Had a beer last night at Bad Shepherd with the same fella. We chatted the draft amongst other things and I asked him if he was surprised that we got Brown via the Rookie Draft.

He reckons Brown dropped later in the year due to some disposal issues and limited scope for improvement. Under pressure missed some targets by foot and his contested work is scrappy, not clean and momentum building. Also wondered about his ability to get bigger. In saying that, he did say his club didn’t put a lot of effort into Brown as they try to avoid non WA players at the later stages of the draft.

On a positive note, he also said if Goody told Brown to run through a brick wall he would and is very coachable.

He thought we had a pretty good draft as Windsor and Tholstrup are good enough to play round 1 next year.

At 181cm he is a genuine Collingwood 6’fter, more a Langdon / Hunter size just needs some extra Kg’s on that slight frame of his. He has a ton of courage and good pace so should fit in well at the Dee’s.!!

I remember going to a game on a Sat night against Sydney around 2014 and sitting on the top level of the southern stand. Nathan nearby with the kids, Kynan was probably about 8. So thrilled for him

We got smashed that night BTW.

I was genuinely halfway through a cut-and-paste of the same fragments.

Although... there was that magical game when we smashed Sydney late in 2010, which has been made infamous by the 'Bruce McAveny and Denis Commetti exclusive footage' youtube clip.

Was a great game indeed.

Jamie Bennell kicked the opening goal within 20 seconds and we were away ❤️

The club media department really need to do some work on their interview questions.

Great little video as both of them seem so happy, but as an interviewer you've got to ask some broader questions that aren't likely to elicit the same sort of responses.

I’ve been really disappointed with our club’s media program for a long time now - I don’t know if it’s under resourced or we just don’t have the right people in our media team, but our content really lags behind some of the other clubs and is frankly pretty boring at times

GWS is currently setting the standard for what clubs socials can look like - they have in-depth coverage of their draft night, heaps of interaction with their players and content that’s entertaining and with the times

I reckon we could learn a lot from them

The standards have been appalling since we lost Ben Gibson.

The current crop running the show never inspired me from the start when they turned up to pre-season training with a camera, but spent the whole session on their social media on their phones instead of watching what was going on in front of them.

It never got better than that, as all we got for the whole season was happy snaps with no commentary, observations or interesting snippets ( you come to Demonland to find out how that is done).

The interviews have been similar.  Cringeworthy questioning, or just plain boring..."tell us what it is like to be drafted?...."

A month after James Harmes, Jordan and Grundy were traded, they still feature on our home page.  Next years fixture....not there yet....it's is just sloppy laziness.

Bring back Ben, his talents are wasted at Essendon.

Thanks for your support of Benny Gibson we have gone backwards since Benny left, he even spiced up the Gus & Gawny podcast each week. Maybe we should start a - Bring back Benny Gibson Thread and get Kate Roffe involved, we are missing out on a lot of content and once missed it is gone forever. I also loved those segments behind the scenes on draft night, etc thanks Demoncat and George_on_the_outer.

Seems like a pretty successful draft week for MFC.

KB could do with a visit to the barber but so could a few others.

Pity Mitch Brown retired we could of had 3 Browns up forward.

BT would dead set have refused to commentate our games.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
