to bring the topic back to howes, we looks like a membrey-type to me more than mackie

be interesting to see how they develop him cos his marking, decision-making, and his disposal all look good in that 2-min clip

My favorite character shared the same surname as jumper number two.

As for our new recruits, I can honestly say I believe the club can do no wrong with the selections they make these days.

We have winners on and off the field in this club.

Andrew Mackie did cross my mind. Hopefully better than him though.

Mackie played 280 games, was All Australian and played in 3 premierships. You are certainly aiming high with our pick 39.ย

I'm not completely writing off Rosman but he was undeniably a risk-reward gamble and I'm comfortable to say he remains as that level of a gamble. I'm completely fine with the strategy of using a pick every now and then on a potential freak, but I still think it's long odds to pay off. Hunt did nothing for 2 years and whilst it's been bumpy since has paid off. I think Rosman's around that mark. JJ was underwhelming in year 1 too, so, sure I get your point. He was a December birthday with a lot of work to do physically. Rosman walked in as the best runner on the list and with some strenght.

The premiership has made a lot of people on here act like the club can't do any wrong and are completely infallible. Any hint of criticism gets jumped on at a rate of knots.ย

I think I've been more loyal to Goodwin than the vast majority on here. I think Jason Taylor is a freak, but I don't think pointing out that whilst he's clearly in the best tier in the business he's still human. That doesn't mean I wouldn't worship the ground he walks on.

And my original point for where this Rosman discussion stemmed was that Jason Taylor has been like Bradman at recruiting but the wing has been a bit of a bodyline for him. Howes is a serious talent and a fairly decent pick in a deep enough draft and with JT's record I expect him to pay off where other moves at finding wingers have yet to pan out.

If JT can keep his perfect 2nd round draft record going and fill a need with a versatile winger than he'll only go higher up as a phenomenal recruiter and the team will only be stronger.

Rosman to be the BIG Improver next Season on what I saw at Training and at Casey!

He was a handy contributor, but he didnโ€™t carry those sides.ย

I think Howes will play games next year, maybe wing H/F, he looks like a very accomplished player to me.

Nice to see he was stoked to be at Melbourne, it wasn't that long ago that recruits would have been praying that we didn't pick them up. I'm proud of what this club has finally achieved, destination club, Hell Yeah.

Once again Mach 5 You ย haven't specifically itemised your opinions on why a ย  3 Flag player, 280 games and AA is not a good/ great player. Just general dismissive comments.

What are ย his weaknesses ? Remember he played those games in the golden era of the Cats when they had about half their side as AA.

Over to ย you Mach 5 Details please.

PS This is exactly the career that every Demon fan would want for ( and has been commenced) ย by Trent Rivers ( and possibly Jake Bowey ) and Christian Salem ย is on his way to achieving.ย

ย

If we compare a player who has not played a game as yet to players with over 200 AFL games then we do the recruit a disservice.

He is at the start of career whilst the 200 game player has retired.

It is like recruiters compare the player they pick to past players which puts undue pressure on an 18 year old with potential but no record to backup the claims, what a player does at U18 level has no bearing on how he will perform at the highest level.

Training habits are good but you can train the house down but when it comes to the crunch be intimidated by the bigger bodies of your opponents.

There are players like Jake Bowey who are small in stature and fearless which makes him the exception.

Bowey's previous coaches probably told him during his pre-AFL he was too small and light framed but he was determined to prove them wrong.

Not every player recruited from the U18's will play at the highest level whether they are drafted to the main list or rookie list but those that do and play over 100 games should be applauded for their determination and willingness to train hard.

In the article about Max Gawn he believed that if he was not 208 cm ruckman he would have been cut from the list several times for his training habits, indiscretions and injuries.

Good luck to all our recruits in their endeavours to play their first game and have the long successful careers at the MFC.ย

โ€œThe Demons handed overย picks No.22, 79 and a future second-round selectionย for the 23-year-old, while the Dockers gave up Langdon, pick No.26 and a future fourth-round selectionโ€.

So to get Langdon we paid a future second rounder (pick 38 2020 - James Rowe?) and dropped 4 spots from 22 to 26 which got us Rivers (after dropping back a few more spots)

In summary we got an out and out bargain
ย

100% agree. Langdon was just shrewd recruiting.

Paying top dollar is what the Saints gave for Brad Hill to run around having 10 touches a game.

Your obsession and over-analysis of my posts is flattering! Thanks for your insightful input as always.

If hoping one of our players is better than bloody Andrew Mackie (of all players in the history of the game) is a crime, lock me up.ย
Heaven forbid.

I totally agree @Action Jacksonย and @FarNorthernDย Langdon was an absolute steal. I do still wish people would stop evaluating individual trades though. There is no silverware available for the best individual deal. We trade to put together a list which, in its entirety, will win a flag.

ย Individual trades like Lever or Langdon may look like overs or unders on their own but it absolutely doesnโ€™t matter if it contributes to building a team that wins a flag.

i understand, when there is no silverware in the cabinet that supporters will evaluate the trades as though they are an end in themselves but now that we have at least one flag from all that trading I think we can look at the work in its entirety and evaluate the list that is currently in place,ย Itโ€™s cost is irrelevant. Every team spends as close as possible to its TPP. Every team uses all its picks every year (and sometimes more). There is no prize for saving $100k or moving up or down the order if it doesnโ€™t get you another piece in the premiership team puzzle.

What are your thoughts on the new Carona strain Omicron given it is an anagram for moronic?

Not sure where to put this, so here is as good as anywhere.

A question to anyone who has seen more of our new draftees than their highlights tape - how good are each boy's kicking skills on the Frost - Salem scale (Frost being 1 and Salem being 10)?

Can't get a good read on them. Looks neatly skilled without being a great kick for Howes. Decision making looks solid though.

From his highlights Howe's technique look a bit clunky.

Certainly none of the new boys' kicking skill stand out from the highlight tapes the way Lauries and Bowey's did.

Howe is interesting in so far as he look a very similar player to Rosman - tall winger with good athleticism. Me thinks those boys might be competing for the same spot.ย ย

Howes kick doesnโ€™t look too bad here:

Maybe not as fluid an action as the top end kicks, but decent touch and can get good distance.

I think McVee is the best kick of our 2021 draft crop. His foot skills look very, very good.

Definitely pokes at it. Outcomes don't seem too bad, but it's a flick of the lower leg rather than kicking through it. I also think we should be looking into his running mechanics. Seems to take twice as many steps than necessary.ย

Very high ball drop.

Hopefully you're right about getting good depth with his kicks as that is important attribute for a potential winger.

From the very short clip of McVee on the MFC website he looks to have a strong technique

Have seen him clear 50m relatively comfortably, the concern with that ball drop is the reduced time heโ€™ll have to get the ball from hand to foot at AFL level. The speed of the game will be a big adjustment.

Still no details on Mackies weaknesses. Really I just think you comment wildly with rash generalisations and maybe your knowledge is very shallow.

Imagine if any of our Coaches reported like this a player would not know what they were good at or not.ย

Really not worth reading your posts Mach 5 as they lack critical detail . M

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kateโ€™s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwoodโ€™s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season.
