I think that JVR will develop into a very good forward for us over the next few years but I would be vey careful in placing him in a position of being the No. 1 target in the forward 50 in the near future. I think we saw exactly what would happen if we did that this season in the game against Richmond. he had the Tigers no. 1 defender on him for 3 quarters and did very little. it was not until Balta was moved into the ruck that he had the chance to get off the leash a bit.

I would like to see him get support of an experienced tall forward next to him to take off the pressure. Brown would be my first choice for that role as I think the opposition would need to have their best defender on him. TMac? not really going to attract the best defender every week and he is looking very limited at the moment.

Might be time to give Schache a run there to see if he can fill the role.

We need to support the development of JVR and the best way to do that is to make sure he ha the correct support up forward.

I would get Brown in there so fast. Injuries aside - his form was fine.

He (Brown) does need to be able to jump and to run though.
The Shack could be a better option right now.

Very similar feeling to when Hogan burst onto the scene back in 2015. Would love JVR to kick 40+ like Hogan did back then in his first year.

JVR's leap and mark reminded me of Naughton. When he gets a clear run and jump at it, he launches and collects it in front while laying waste to the bodies in his path. Very exciting!

JVR is nothing like Jack Watts.

Wattsy was expected to play a similar role when he was thrust into the team.

Play forward  and kick goals!

That's  all I am really comparing the three forwards.

There us an article in the Sun about his brother pushing his draft case. can’t view it.

perhaps he’ll be top 10? certainly worth a look! he look a big unit already!

Might be an idea to try Schachie when he's ready don't you think?

I guess we will have to wait until he's the sub in about round 20 though

Schache will play very soon. Maybe even defence...

He's not rated that highly.  He's not in any top 50s that I've seen.

But has time to move up across the course of the season.

Nope nope nope. Stay low young fella, then we’ll get you with our last pick and have you teaming up with big bro in no time

I only want him if he's good.

Who his brother is is irrelevant to me.

Very true, except that there's an element of value towards them wanting to play together, assuming that is the case.

Different circumstances, but the Daicos boys are a good example of this. Genuinely love playing together

If jnr VR is good, I reckon we might put added work into him

If we miss out on him, so be it, but imagine if he goes to a WA club? That is worst case scenario. If Jacob keeps playing games like he did on Monday, Freo and West Coast will pick up his brother with their first pick even if they think he’s [censored] just for the chance of bringing them together 😂 Would love for a VIC club to pick Sam.

Risible suggestion to think they would waste their first pick to do that.

A and A Brayshaw say hi.

If JVR kicks 3 or 4 goals a week then BBB is depth.

Nonsense. It would be a real feather in 🔔’s cap

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

  • PREGAME: St. Kilda

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

  • REPORT: Richmond

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.

  • VOTES: Richmond

Kozzy Pickett was the man of the match last week and has a vote lead over backup ruck Max Heath who didn't play this week and 5 votes over former Saint Jack Steele. Who gets the votes in this weeks shortened match win over the Tigers? Your votes please. 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 & 1.

It's Game Day and the 2026 AFL Premiership season is almost upon us as the Demons take to the field for their final practice match before the first ball is kicked in anger in 16 days time. What are you expecting to see from the Dees today as they take on the Tigers at Mars Stadium in Ballarat?
