If this was a Friday night I would fly down for the game. No chance of me attending a mid week game.

Come on one of the biggest chances for revenue. Don’t spoil it for people who can’t afford to take the day off to attend

Thanks for nothing Pert another year where we cannot attend all the games we pay for. Just had the conversation with Mrs Dw and we aren't going and she's livid. Hope Pert is going to donate some of his salary to the Club because his great idea will cost thousands.

Needs to be dragged before the Board and have him explain why he has stuck two fingers up at families and country people.

The icing on the cake (not!) will be if its an outrageous late start on  a Wednesday evening, being 7.50.

Must be at least 7.25 or earlier.

Great marketing for sponsors being the opening match for 2022 and undivided attention of TV audience, but borderliner supporters who might have been captured at the game and sign up probably will pass on the night.

ROUND ONE, 2022

Wednesday, March 16
Melbourne v Western Bulldogs, MCG, 7.10pm AEDT, Seven

We get a stand alone marquee game to kick of the 2022 AFL season. It’s a bummer that it’s not at a convenient time but as a Melbourne supporter barracking for our club which is trying to get back to mix it with the big Victorian clubs I’d take a marquee game opportunity whenever it is offered. I missed out on the GF so I would walk over “cut glass” to watch the unfurling of the Flag & the first game. We have roughly 3 months to make arrangements & I hope that after all the outpouring of emotion from the fans we actually physically turn out & support them. I get all the arguments etc but this is celebrating our first premiership in 57 years. It’s just impossible to keep everyone happy ..,TV audience will be massive & footy lovers will go because they’ll be guaranteed an amazing game & it’s been soooo long since we’ve sat in a full MCG..,

Why blame Pert? I am sure he would have preferred Friday/Saturday night, or Saturday afternoon, so kids and country Dees fans could attend and see flag unfurled.

I think he just suggested first round, not Wednesday night.

Another pathetic AFL decision.

The AFL has Collingwood-St Kilda on Friday night lol

Jeepers, some of you lot are whingers. Looking forward to it. Will be massive.

So your male live in Melbourne and don't have kids under 12 that you want to take to the opening round.

Congratulations non whinger

Why are they doing a Grand Final “rematch” now and not previous years?

To me, it screams of people thinking the Bulldogs actually had a chance of winning the Grand Final and didn’t get destroyed by 74 points.

Yes Frittas 2 in a minute changed the game.
but the energy changed when Max went down

The energy changed but the 19 points was an exaggeration of the dogs efforts.  We missed a lot of goals and the dogs were uncanny with their snaps.

Wednesday night is traditionally known as "Hump Night", so we'll just have to do that to the Doggies.  Again.

They might be getting bored of Doggy style though. Perhaps we could introduce some bondage? @Bitter but optimistic

What difference does it make ?

If u can’t go don’t go, too many people sooking.

same people probably that complain about the Sunday 3pm fixtures.

Another marquee fixture yes please

Flying down from the Northen Rivers for this. Bring the fam, park up at mums in Malmsbury, might take the eldest (mad Petracca fan, will be nearly 7 so a late night but how often do you get a Premiership flag unfurling ) , meet Brownie and others , go to the zoo etc .mint! Kids are starving in Afghanistan so I’m relaxed about a Wed night Big Show where Petraccas biceps explode

If the Dogs had kicked 1 more, we would have been in a bit of strife. Their confidence would have risen…

But fortunately Harmesy controlled the ball in his fingertips and shot a bullet pass to Fritta….

And we thought 'Land was family friendly...

I just don’t understand the reasoning behind this, firstly I actually don’t mind the “tradition” of Blues v Tigers to open the season on Thursday. Secondly Wednesday night has got to be the least fan/family friendly hour, which means (as we have seen) fans will AGAIN miss out. At least a Friday/Saturday provides the weekend to recuperate and give kids some rest, Wednesday is ridiculous for everyone.

Total fail from the AFL and I really wish Pert/the club had fought this to see passed the tv coverage numbers.

The reasoning is that without TV, we don’t have a game.

I actually don’t mind it from a footy perspective. It means we get the Blues in round 2 off an 8 day break and another likely 8 day break into round 3.

We’re a prime time club playing attractive footy. I’d get used to the night-time marquee *TV* slots for the next 5 years.

If it doesn't work with kids, it doesn't work with kids. I am male, I do live in Melbourne and I have a kid under 12. Whatever happens people will always find something to complain about.

If it was on a Friday night there'd be some nuffies still saying it's too late for the kids. Well don't take them then. FFS, it's not that hard.

Well for me life went somewhat like this....40+ eye sight starts to go, 50+ hearing, 60+ teeth....and for the other mind your own business.  So any night time game I have to stagger around in the dark on public transport and I spend most of the game watching it on the big screen on the scoreboard.  If I have a couple of beers I spend much travel time to the toilet.  May as well watch it from the comfort of home.

Wednesday night totally unsupportive of young families but then heh the Dees have the lowest number of underage supporters in the AFL so minimal impact there......(Good luck growing that demographic)

I reckon the betting companies want some more action on a Wednesday night.....

Anyway see you there, Covid permitting.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: St. Kilda

The Demons return to Casey Fields (aka the Field of Dreams) this Saturday to host the Saints in Round 2. If you’re feeling lucky, head down the Monash for some family-friendly footy—you might even walk away a winner. The first 5,000 adults through the gate will receive an entry into the $10,000 helicopter ball drop. With Casey’s infamous wind, what could possibly go wrong? Closest ball to the pin wins. So spread the word, get down there—and good luck!

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Way back in March we contemplated the possibility of a Demon resurgence after Simon Goodwin’s summer of love. Many issues at the club had seemingly been addressed, key players were returning from injury and a brand new day was about to dawn. We imagined the coach pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The team would roar up the charts, push aside every opponent and make its way to a Grand Final ending in ultimate triumph with Goody and Max holding the premiership cup aloft under a shower of red and blue ticker tape.
