Found his niche on a wing and got better and better as the season went on and put in some starring performances in the finals. His diving mark and goal in the third term of the grand final to put the team in front was inspired.

Angus Brayshaw played the game of his life so determined and brave, no one was going to get between Gus and the premiership cup. Absolutely loved his effort and controlled aggression coupled with his raw team lifting emotion.💕❤️💙

That interview post-match with Garry Lyon was another unforgettable moment.

My boy! Loved him from the first moment he was yukking it up with Trac when they were drafted.

Was always going to be a gun, and had to reinvent himself because of our midfield riches, but boy did he do it so well.

A very understated part of the team is our wingers club

Up til this season, I doubted his commitment. I perceived him as someone trying to get by without the will to sacrifice to achieve team goals. No more. The podcast and his performances this season convinced me that he is a champ. Not that it needed nailing by that point, but his mark and goal in the Grannie drove it home.

Full respect for Gus.

Gus is another player who sacrificed his preferred playing position for the good of the team, and he was rewarded with a Premiership Medal. He had an excellent year as a key member of the inaugural ‘wingers club’, but often went without the external plaudits he deserved.  I doubt he gave a (expletive) about that!  Playing his role for the team is his mantra, and he did it to a tee!

His role this year was super underrated by some, focusing purely on statistics and not the body of work he put in and how much of a sacrifice it was to shift into a role that was unfamiliar to him. What he did all year allowed Langdon to do his thing on the other side

His game in the Grand Final was huge, loved his passion when he scored his massive goal.

I loved the how desperate he was during that 3rd quarter but his pass to Fritsch in the last was exquisite.

The only time I think he made a mistake being unselfish trying to pass a ball on the run to Harmes in the 3rd quarter when the goal square was vacant and he could have kicked the goal easily but his diving mark and goal made up for the mistake.

Angus Brayshaw is a "heart and soul" type player for the Melbourne Football Club. You cannot put a price on that type of player.

His diving mark and goal in the 3rd quarter of the 2021 AFL Grand Final was a huge moment. Even Brisbane Lions legend and triple Premiership player Jonathan Brown applauded Angus' courage with that diving mark. It epitomised the desperation Angus had to do anything to win for the team and how selfless he has become as a player for the Demons.

Angus also totally buys into the new "winning culture" of the Melbourne Football Club. Something that took many years to develop and it will now hopefully be entrenched with this crop of Melbourne players who have just won a Premiership and are super hungry for more sustained success.

What I loved the most was the post Grand Final interview with Demons great Garry Lyon in the change rooms where he said "our club". That was brilliant. It brought a massive smile to my face when he said that! Angus is Melbourne through and through!

He’s a good player. Plays his role as others have pointed out but he needs to value the footy more and work on those foot skills. People can point to his disposal % but when Gus misses, he misses big.

Otherwise, he’s a great kid and important player.

From his first game he became my favourite player. Just love his approach to the game. Plays on both sides of his body, runs all day, is a true club man, and is as courageous and tough as any we have ever had. And I agree with Chook above, his role in the GF win was pivotal.

Amazing that in pulling this Premiership together, the role of wingman has become celebrated again. Alves, Flower, Stretch, Tingay - and now Brayshaw and Langdon!

The one player I credit most to our premiership. Big call, but there it is.

Have to agree with you @Chook.

No doubt Trac, Jacko and Fritsch helped in getting the ball rolling, but Gus was simply sublime even when the Doggies dominated the first half of the third. He also continually put his body on the line the entire game and just anted up in the next contest.

Inspirational.

I still dont understand how he marked that ball when he was practically standing next to the bloke who kicked it. Then he kicked it. I think he has kicked about four all year. Not bad when one of them puts you in front on grand final day. Put his body on the line all day.

Didn't star like Langdon did but he has been a very reliable player all year and I know is very well liked by all in the club.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
