Coach Simon Goodwin abandoned the experiment of using Harmes as a defender and the move onto the ball and up forward saw a reinvigorated Harmes in 2021.

Premiership Player

Heart and soul type player. The reports of him trying to sub himself off so James Jordon could play some GF minutes shows his selflessness.

Will be an important cog in our push for more flags.

That Gather (watch it closely) and Kick in the 3rd Quarter is a thing of sheer beauty, pinpoint accuracy

Well done James.

superb work Harmesy

Good players play best in pressure situations when the team needs them most Harmes and Brayshaw are examples of players desperate to do the teams things in the 'teams hour of need'.

In the 3rd quarter the lesser lights Harmes, Brayshaw, TMac and Sparrow stood up and showed their metal and did things which helped us to victory.

Just letting you know the word you’re looking for is mettle. Not being pedantic, it’s just that I know @Demonstonewill spot this and probs post a corny reply like “I didn’t know they were cyborgs.” 😁

I deliberately used that word metal not mettle because I believe you need heat to make steel and when the heat is on they come to the fore.

One of the most improved players in the competition and one of the best value pickups drafted.

Love Harmseys energy, toughness, team spirit, work Ethic and dare I say it skill set. James has worked his butte off to become a better more skilled footballer and is an integral part of this great team of ours.💕❤️💙

Assay he was a steel as a Rookie and is such an ironman he will forge a rolled gold career.

Five puns for the price of one!  Best value in the shop today!

Just 'one of' the biggest plays in Harmesy career?

Try the biggest play in his career and the turning point in 57 years of the history of the MFC.

Unless he turns another grand final off his own boot, this will end up being the most played clip of Harmesy's highlight real.  Probably not the most spectacular or absouute best of his work, but the most significant by a long way.

Love Harmesy.

I'm not sure he'll ever be in quite the same stratosphere are Trac or Clarry, but who are and I think Harmesy still has a a great place in the side as a half forward who can rotate onto the ball, provide great physicality, burst through and away from packs, kick handy goals (that one early against Geelong in the PF made something out of nothing amd help build momentum) jump on people's heads in occasions as well.

His kicking is sometimes questioned, but as he showed when it counted, he is quite capable of executing damaging laces out passes deep into our forward line or kicking it through the big ones.

James Harmes is a ripper! A Demons supporter playing for the Demons and winning a Premiership for the Demons! Gotta love it!

He has fancy footwork both on and off the field too! Here is James Harmes celebrating the 2021 AFL Premiership doing the Melbourne shuffle with team mates. This video brought a massive smile to my face! On ya Harmesy! 😁

I know we all love the bloke: hard as steel, salt of the earth, etc... But I reckon he is a lot more skilful than people think. Due to his place in the team he is not required to get huge disposal numbers, but his in close work, his kicking away from congestion, his marking and goal kicking are all parts of his impressive arsenal.

And who couldn't love a bloke with a huge gob, nicknamed "Chompers".

There's something extra special about a childhood fan making it to the big time and the ultimate success for the same club. Especially a former rookie with ostensibly no high-level connections to the club or industry. It's the stuff of dreams really.

First player to touch the ball in the run to the cup. Amazing split second gather at pace from the Smith fumble, and kicks it down Fritsch’s throat. That play will be burned in my memory forever. I’ll be in a nursing home one day not able to remember where I am or what I had for breakfast, but I’ll remember James Harmes charging towards the 50.

Brilliant.

The 2021 Harmesy bought 100% into the the selfless role player that has become our team mantra.

Not only that, but I reckon he bought 100% into the Choco Williams school of effective disposal along the way.  Someone will probably pull out stats to prove me wrong, but I suspect that his 'clanger count' in 2021, was well down on previous years.

But most importantly, wasn't it brilliant to share his utter joy on Grand Final day, as he lived out his childhood dream in red and blue!

Not exactly sure which game it was, possibly Essendon, but I had a crack at Harmesy about trying to take on tacklers and ignoring first options. These though dropped out of his game as the year went on, and his back half of the season and finals were great. Love his passion and obvious enjoyment playing footy for Melbourne.

Interrupted season but effective. Bought into a role that sees little midfield time - great for him, he has a flag for it.

The thing Harmes does really well for Melbourne, and has for years (even back to our 2018 run to finals) is when we're on offensively, he's involved in those long handball chains down the wing that invariably lead to getting the overlap and goal.

  • NON-MFC: Round 07

Round 7 gets underway in iconic fashion with the traditional ANZAC Day blockbuster. The high-flying Magpies will be looking to solidify their spot atop the ladder, while the Bombers are desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top eight. Over in Adelaide, Port Adelaide will be strong favourites at home against a struggling North Melbourne. The day wraps up with a fiery encounter in Canberra, where the Giants and Bulldogs renew their bitter rivalry. Sunday’s schedule kicks off with the Suns aiming to bounce back from their shock defeat to Richmond, taking on the out of form Swans. Then the Blues will be out to claim a major scalp when they battle the Cats at the MCG. The round finishes with a less-than-thrilling affair between Hawthorn and West Coast at Marvel. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.

The Dees are back at the MCG on Thursday for the annual blockbuster ANZAC Eve game against the Tigers. Can the Demons win back to back games for the first time since Rounds 17 & 18 last season? Who comes in and who goes out?
