LJ is a proven Finals Player. He changed the GF.

LJ is more advanced as a player than young Brayshaw, who is yet to play a final

Clearly Thailand has tickled your sense of reality.

I applaud the confidence, however you are wrong and it will not happen the way you hope.

Look forward to reading the SWYL outrage if Dogga goes west! Lol!

He's contracted for a few more years. There's zero chance they'd trade him even if he was keen.

Oh well, bad luck Freo, no Jacko for you then.

Glad some demonland posters aren’t our list manager.

Brayshaw is their future captain. They would value him more than they would Jackson.

I'm not saying you are wrong. Jackson would probably be more value to us with our lack of talls and abundance in the middle.

Losing both Cerra and Brayshaw would be a massive blow for them.

just what everyone here has been saying about journalism these days, eh?

So can someone give us the short version of the process

Say he wants to go, and we want to keep him... what happens

If Freo offer more, they still need to trade, right? Or do we need to match? What of they have s.f.a picks?

What's the enforcement likelihood?

Or is that only RFA? 🤔

Brayshaw and high draft picks is the only acceptable outcome from Freo.
We should not be compromised at all, Freo cannot be given a Free Hit over this.
if Jacko leaves IT MUST come at a large cost

Playing Devils advocate if Freo did not allow us to trade/draft in May, Sparrow and Langdon we may still be waiting for a premiership. I understand the mindset but going by history Fremantle have been pretty good to us (trade wise).

only for rfa

if he wants to go, we have to do a trade deal with whoever. if that fails and he still wants to he goes into the draft with no guarantees who gets him

He's not a free agent, so if he wants to go then he has to rely on a suitable trade being arranged.  The advantage we have is that there will be interest from both WA clubs who will probably have similar offers on the table should that be his decision.

Disappointing to read on here the so called parents are the ones questioning Jackson's character. Times have changed and just because your kids may have adjusted moving out, some don't adjust as easily.

Ouch.

What if Brayshaw said he wanted to go back to Victoria?

What if his brother was unsigned while waiting to see if they could end up playing together in Melbourne?

You do realise he's out of contract? It's not like he's contracted and we can control what he can and can't do.

If you're not wanting Freo to come to the party, especially if he has nominated them, then he can walk straight to the PSD (very unlikely outcome as we WILL trade with whoever he nominates between both WA clubs).

Jackson & Rivers for Brayshaw. 😉

What's with this pressure to return home by young adults to be near family and friends?  Our kids buzzed off to pursue careers and other things and have made new friends wherever they went. And without the sort of money in the bank that AFL players can have (if they have any sense).  They still keep in touch with old friends and family which these days is 1000 times easier than it was only 25 years ago.  Do footy players never grow up?

Yeah, I'm probably a rotten parent.

I lived in Perth for 20 years and I'll be back there ASAP, best city in Oz

If there is no suitable trade Jackson walks to the  pre-season draft and spends a year at Nth before asking for another trade or he signs on for another year with the dees, hanging out in a great culture with mates looking for a third premiership and asks for a trade the following year?

Am i wrong? And whats bad about that scenario for MFC ?

When was the last time a gun player was traded to a club for another gun player? Andrew Brayshaw extended his contract less than a year ago until the end of 2025, he isn’t going anywhere and I won’t be drawn into the hypothetical of “but what happens if he asks to go to Melbourne?” I will donate an eyeball to science if Andrew Brayshaw is involved in the trade of Luke Jackson (not that I think LJ is going anywhere. Your anxiety over the issue doesn’t mean he is leaving..)

Goodwin seemed to be pumping up Jackson's price in his presser today. Read into that what you wish.

He seemed pretty confident to me. We don't normally go to press with excitement and positivity unless we know a deal in our favour is close or already over the line. I reckon he's staying.

100% with SWYL on this.

If he leaves the cost of Brayshaw and a first round. Minimum

If the 10 mill over 7 years is correct. That's double what they'll be paying brayshaw over the journey. Should they think THAT highly of Jackson. The cost is massive in terms of trade value.

Any less and it completely rorts the system. Any less he goes to the Draft and straight to North

I would rather see Jacko get stuck at Norf if Freo are not prepared to offer a suitable trade. Call freakin Freo's bluff if it comes to that.

I do however have a cunning plan*.

If it will keep him at MFC, the Club could offer him a 2 year extension with the proviso that if he still wants to leave (after the 2 year extension) the Club will do whatever is reasonably necessary to facilitate a trade to his preferred club. Hopefully he will have fallen in love with Melbourne in the meantime and not want to leave. Or fallen in love with a Melbourne girl (or boy if that is his preference) who doesn't want to leave Melbourne.

Gotta think outside the square.

I believe he can nominate for the preseason draft rather than the national draft, in which case WCE have first pick and still keep their first ND pick of 1 or 2.

Or have they changed that rule?

However, I highly doubt Dogga or the clubs would let it get to that

when he's a 2x premiership player, 1x rising star it'll be hard to begrudge him becoming the highest paid player in the game...at 21 and after four seasons of playing footy

dude is a freak

This idea that 'once he nominates Freo there is nothing we can do and we HAVE to trade with them as if they have us over a barrel is BS. Hard'n up people.

If Jacko doesn't get exactly what he wants in a trade, so be it. He obviously still loves the dees, so im sure he'll cope just fine if theres no trade. Plenty of players have experienced that.

Im super confident he doesnt want to play at Nth and super confident Nth would 't let him slide by - being a hugely tradeable asset the following year.

Its up to Freo to convince us to let him go. So what are they going to do about it?

When it was Lever, we had to give up up 2 x firsts. May was pick 5 or so. We have to agree to the deal.

You really do struggle to understand how a player trade works don't you..

At the time, Josh Kennedy wasn't considered a gun. He was in and out of the senior team and was also playing VFL for the Northen Bullants

Completely different scenario.

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
