Listening to Jordan Lewis on this last night and I have doubts Jacko will ever fulfill his potential. He’s a very laidback sort of person and not someone who’s a competitive beast like Max or Oliver.

Similar to how we turned the Hogan trade into securing the missing piece of our premiership backline, we need to use this Jackson trade as an angle to secure an elite key contested marking forward.

Did we ever learn why he turned down Basketball in favour of AFL?

Perhaps living away from home really is a factor?

If he’s gone he’s gone, no point dwelling on it and becoming bitter, just look forward. I’m sure we’ll be well compensated so I’m excited to see who we will get as a result.

So is this his first time out of contract? So if he goes he'll do a scully and bugger off.

If we win the flag this year I won't be as annoyed.

Vaguely remember hearing he was on a tour in South America or somewhere like that and he came to the realisation he didn’t want to be doing it anymore...

Just spoke to Mel and Steve and can confirm you’re correct. He made the decision after returning to the AIS after playing in Argentina’s World Cup. He always kept an open-mind and was always going to wait to make his decision after Argentina.

When have I ever been anything but club first?

I will support and be loyal to our players until the end. But once they’re out I couldn’t give a single [censored] about them. I want what’s best for my club.

We are in a premiership window that we waited 57 years for. I’m not about to let a 3rd year player that we spent pick 3 on just walk out for lesser compensation than we deserve and make our direct competitor a better side.
I hope the club is a lot less compassionate than some of the supporters here. This is a ruthless business and we need to get the best deal for ourselves. Jackson’s needs are the lowest priority for me if, after giving him everything he could ask for including offering to help move his family across, he still chooses to leave.

Of course I want him to stay. But if he doesn’t I move on very quickly to getting us the best deal possible and that won’t happen if Jackson holds us over a barrel and refuses to entertain going to West Coast. I think it’s ludicrous to use home sickness as an excuse but then insist on going to a specific club. That’s not real home sickness.

I can't see how we'd flip it, but if we could flip LJ for Ben King that'd be gold.

Didn’t he extend his contract only recently? I don’t disagree, Ben King would be an amazing bet but most certainly wouldn’t happen within the next two years.

Yep, King did extend after his recent injury. Pie in the sky stuff probably, but spitballing.

I think it's not fully appreciated how close the players are to each other regardless of what colours they are wearing, just different paymasters. The chumminess after the game is definitely not old school. A classic example was Oliver and Dangerfield when Gawn was taking his shot in the prelim...  we supporters are the cows being milked via kayo and memberships.

Does it have to be immediate?Deals done in the past years eventually bear fruit a few seasons later.

Trade received draft picks for future picks in 2025 and beyond. Spend the summer developing a journeyman or Weed into a second ruck. (I didnt like writing that sentence either.)

I dont think its total pie in the sky stuff. If Jackson leaves would the club accept taking a punt on 2023 and 2024 to set us up for the rest of the decade.  The premier midfield will be here until then.

I've been watching all the Casey games including some live. Losing Jackson wouldn't trouble me much if we drafted Bell into the side. A bit like "Bill", he continues to build and develop and I can see a lot of a young Gawn starting to emerge.

MFC has not always had the player's interest as a priority when trading them on.  It is fair that the player has a similar attitude.

I don't really want a player in return for LJ unless from a basket-case like GC, GWS or North.  After all, the other club is content to see the back of them.  A pick 3 that worked out is easily worth a top 10 pick and a 10-20 pick.  With LJ's stellar performances, he is likely to be paid over the odds and I would be content to duck that,  However, Lethal reckons you can save 10% on a player that chooses to stay.

Jon Ralph again drops the 'likely to Freo' line

This is going to be a fun thing to hear 5 times a week for the rest of the year.

Does it count that he extended his contract for one year, with that year being 2022?

Drop Jackson to the VFL if he makes it clear that he is leaving. We need every man on board if we want to win the Premiership again this year.

Every time you here him speak he genuinely come across as loving the club and the other players he seems like the type to wear his heart on his sleeve so the only question is why hasn’t he signed yet.

Those two sentences are antithetical.

If I was the club I’d ask for a decision quick, so we can move on and sign players. No footballer is irreplaceable- we just need to ensure we fill needs with the picks and players coming back our way.
I do like the idea of a Cam Pederson type backup- any VFL types who we can bring across?
And yes, if he leaves I will boo him for being soft. Something “special” about Perth, but I ain’t seen it!!!

“They also have challenges off the field with Luke Jackson looking increasingly likely to return to Western Australia to play with Fremantle in 2023”

why?? He’s still a chance to play at MFC. Sure the delays often mean it’s likely players are leaving but not always

Tend to agree and please correct me if I’m wrong but to date Luke has not said a single word that would suggest he is staying or going

The media are always looking to sensationalise any story even when sometimes none exists

Im sure Freo and WC are revving them up at all opportunities hoping that it builds pressure on Luke to think it’s his best option

Either way I believe it’s now probably come time to make a decision - for both sides that seems like the sensible way forward - the frenzy around this issue will only escalate and become a bigger distraction
