If we get a future 1st from Freo, next years draft is meant to be a good one, better than this year, so it might work in our favour anyway

I reckon Freo will regress next year. Their future first may well end up being a top 10 pick

Sheezel will go top 3. Every club after him.

I'm surprised that there hasn't been any talk about involving a Freo player to Melb in the deal. I would be comfortable with receiving p13 and a player like Michael Frederick (drafted p60 from SA) who can play wing / HF. He has enormous potential . Sam Switkowski (p73 Vic. A little injury prone) or Lachie Schultz (p57 Vic) are two further players who could fill our HF needs.

I know they are all under contract but Freo might come desperate if they can't come up with another 1st round pick to satisfy us.

On a side note Freo have really nailed their late picks over the past 4 years. Good on them.

Don't think a player will be involved unless it's Meek. They've already got 5 players wanting out. They're not going to force any more out, especially those three. I don't know much about them but Frederick and Schultz destroyed us in our first meeting this year. Highly doubt Fremantle will even consider trading for them.

Would like us to ask the question of Meek though. Think he'd go ok as a replacement and could grow under Gawn's guidance.

I will admit I am not up with the ‘youth’ but is that a Black & Decker measuring tape in his left hand?

DIY fan, self starter, good signs, let’s get him.

This is my mate. He carry’s a tape measure at all times, and yes, he pulls the ladies.

This. I really want their future first. They are losing a lot of their depth and seemed to be found out by the rest of the competition in the second half of the year.

Partiboi69 is a legend

Imagine if we traded him last year, would we be within our means to demand a top 2 pick? Would have been fun to see teams break the bank over him.

You never know when you might need a tape measure.

Don't reckon we'll get a brass razoo for this bloke...and I really don't care

I'm sick and tired of him already

How can you get sick of a bloke that gets excited about newly discovered exo planets?

Might need a washable tape measure.

I think we'll get two first rounders between picks 10 and 20 for Jackson.

If you listen to Matt Rendell who's familiar with list management and trading, he states that the best and most professional clubs such as Geelong look for a win-win for both clubs as opposed to "I'm winning this trade and you're losing it". Clubs need to maintain a good reputation if they want to get a big trade done down the line.

Geelong purchase a player at a commensurate price (eg - Cameron) and don't try and rip off the vendor when they trade out a player.

My impression of our club is that we fit in the Geelong bracket of fair dealings, and therefore I'm not expecting a huge windfall from the LJ trade.

We are also hamstrung by the fact that he's out of contract and had a poor season.

And rumoured to be offered between $900k-$1m a year for 6-7 years.

Yep, why would you expect to get much for a player that another club obviously thinks isn't that good?

It's real 101 stuff isn't it! There's been tons of books written on win-win negotiation in business and it has clearly worked in AFL trading. Individual trades get put under the microscope a lot when it's really about the long run and you do want to pay it forward to an extent so you can manifest something down the treack if needed.

I'd love to extract big time value for LJ but I would probably take those two picks at this stage. Have to remember the trade period is short and you're on the clock to make deals, no use turning up on the day and requesting pick 2 with the threat to walk.

Yeah not sure about that. They traded Kelly for two first rounders, and pick 24 and pick 37. They screwed every last drop for that deal. many other deals have been free agency and deals in their favour. I don't agree with the win / win philosophy. more of a 'we win' strategy.

Who would you rather have as a team-mate Jackson or Weideman?

These trade guys are great.

Asked how will the deal get done, SOS gives no detail, but says he thinks it will get done.

It is riveting stuff.

If these guys were garbologists, the streets would be covered in rubbish.

I wonder if the criteria for being a Trade Expert is, having seen a game of footy?

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
