Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Pick 8

He was pick 3

I give up

This deal has now become what can the the Anchors dig up

Well realistically we have no power here. If he always knew he was coming back home why not just request the trade while he was still contracted? Or at least sign a two year extention at the end of last year so that we'd still have some leverage. Last year we would have gotten pick 8 and cerra, who was pick 5. Now the most we can get is something around 13 and 14.

Unless west coast want to split their pick 2 to trade for him then we really won't get much better. And even if they do split their pick 2 what could they even get for it? They wouldn't want to give up their higher pick for a player they could theoretically pick of for nothing in the PSD.

I'm not sure why anyone thinks we will get less than two 1st rounders (even if one is a future 1st). If we get a future 1st from Freo, next years draft is meant to be a good one, better than this year, so it might work in our favour anyway

Peter Bell is stubborn. I don't see him coughing up two first rounders unless they're both low (i.e. 13 and next years F1). If pick 8 is inolved then that probably means fremantle are giving up 13, F1, and F2 (to port) for Jackson and Bell's ego is way too high for that.

I think it gets done for 13 and F1 with Jackson and 32 going back their way. We could package 13 and F1 for a top 10 pick from someone I'm sure.

I'm more than happy for two first rounders with one being a future first. What I'm not going to be ok with is if we just hand over one of those first rounders for Grundy just like that.

Same, but I bet we get Grundy for a pick in the 20’s (not sure how yet), and some pick swaps

Yeah I'd be more open to the pick swap thinking. Really don't want to give them everything they want, they've already shown themselves to be pretty idiotic at the negotiating table RE: De Goey

Yeah Grundy isn’t happy with the Pies, about his whole situation, which they caused, so I’ll be very disappointed, if we use a 1st on him

That’s I heard today as well. The draft this year is meant to be quite poor. Depth to about 20 predominantly from VIC.

ChAtter has it that there will be a lot pick swaps to get a good draft hand for next year.

Not sure how we play it but having 2 first rounders next year could be a good thing. May not get us what we need for 2023.

I personally believe that in some way, shape or form the dogs first will be going back to Freo with Lobb landing there and the final deal will be something like

Pick 8 and 11 for Luke Jackson

Which is about right. I don't know whether we try to take it to WC and split their pick 2 + 2nd rounder (which goes to the Pies for Grundy). They would be silly not to look at that, because there are no WA boys that will go pick 2 and they get 2 picks in the 1st round. And we secure Cadman with said pick.

Help me out here. I realise a deal will be completed but in the unlikely event that Fremantle can not get a deal done or West Coast drop out does Jackson go into the draft. ie who holds the cards here.

I'd assume so but it will all come down to Poker skills. How willing are Melbourne to let him slide through, how much do Freo really want him etc

Jackson is out of contract. If a trade can’t be arranged, he walks to the preseason draft. Freo have the leverage as a result because we have more to lose. It will all come down to how reasonable both parties are. Freo could stooge us, but it’s not in their best interests to if they want to acquire Jackson smoothly and maintain a positive reputation for trading with the other clubs.

Expect it will get done as projected for a first round pick this year and a future first round pick. Would rather higher picks or quality player like Young or Serong, but won’t happen unfortunately.

Yeah not too sure. my gut feel is that West Coast ultimately won't be involved in any meaningful way.

I reckon we could have a look at the Bombers, Giants or even North though. if we had picks 8 and 11 and maybe a future we could try to work something out around a top 5 pick and get Cadman in the door.

if the net result is Jackson out, Grundy and Cadman in it's a great result for the club

Why would 32 go back Freo's way? Jackson is worth at least this and next year's first round pick. The only way Jackson gets to Freo or West Coast is if we agree to a trade. The alternative is he walks into the draft or agrees to a 1-2 year contract extension which provides time for Freo and West Coast to put together the required trade currency.  If Jackson felt that Freo were playing games then he'd probably tell them to get their house in order and come back in a year or two when they're serious about trading him in.

Every trade that involves multiple first rounders has at least one second going back the other way. Kelly, Cameron more recent examples.

A deal will get done, even if it's unders. End of the day we'll be getting at least one first round pick. We're not going to walk him to the PSD because they're offering 13 and 13 rathern than 8 and 10.

He's moved everything back to WA, bought a house there. If signing for another two years was an option for him he would've done it already.

Talks have been ongoing since 2021. All parties would probably be on the same page by now. A deal will get done, and I think it will get done early. I also think it's going to be less than what we want, but it won't be insulting enough to turn it down and let him walk.

Yeah I think your pretty close to what will happen there. Pick 8 and either Freos future first round or whatever they can turn that pick into. Think we will end up with pick 8 and a pick between 11-15 for Jackson.
I wouldn’t be surprised if we then tried to trade next years first to help us move up draft this year.
A bit will depend on how we rate this draft compared to next years but given our history I expect us to be keener to grab a couple of players in the first round of the draft this year rather than saving picks for next year.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
