That also applies to players selected in the draft, it's the nature of the game we play.

I'm not sure what you are getting at, you appear to have backtracked a bit, but we will judge his output when his career is over and not when it's a few years in and he already has one flag in his kit.

i'm one of jog's biggest critics on this site but he's a far superior player to cerra

I can’t think of another coach that had a very healthy win percentage, was stiff to get sacked and then was never thought of as a good assistant yet alone in the mix to get another senior gig. Probably something to that

Bit stiff on Lever, he had immediate impact in 2018 (only hampered by the injury). 2019 a [censored] year for the whole team.

2020 was decent 

2021 All Australian 

2022 Inconsistent

For mine it's still a good deal for us so far. Just consider were Adelaide is at the moment...

And he was played through injury in 2022. What I saw as painful plantarus issues that looked very painful. Don’t know if @Webbersaw him take his boot off at HT in the middle of the year. He played through that but it is painful to play through.

In hindsight would you have done the deal if you knew he was going to get injured? We did win a premiership with he being an integral part of the team.

I'm fairly sure Henry came up on trade radio today and when they asked his manager if he was going to be at freo next year it was a straightforward "Yes."

Yeah, he ain’t great but role players need environment and an achievable role. It is the literal difference between ANB 2021 and, well, ANB any other year. Or, and here is a controversial take - the difference between Stengle 2022 and ‘just another FP’.

Didn’t see that particular thing, but it appears (with provided hindsight) a lot of the players were ‘playing injured’ this season, to the extent that it limited their output, and progressively. The maxim of questions regarding playing ‘through injury’ is ultimately pretty simple- can I perform, to what level, and how will I be affected during the game? The deal-breaker question, at least before finals, is - will this get progressively worse if I keep playing? If that falls closer to the ‘no’ side, and the former is considered acceptable diminishment (a very squishy, subjective judgement), then A - graders in particular will keep playing - Max with his NQR ankle, Lever with ? plantar fasciitis, Salem with knee, Tracc being crook mid-season, and so on. As has been prosecuted on here, the club might have misjudged the need to ‘rest and rotate’ during the season, at least before we got to our must win last few rounds. This ‘misjudgement’ seems worse because of the all-conquering Casey season. Doubtless they’ll look to a new approach next season. For Geelong, it was so much easier, because what turned out to be an easy fixture fell into their home-ground gifted lap.

I will push back slightly on the hindsight proviso to make such comment but I agree there are no easy decisions when it comes to playing your best players when they are injured. We either play through and possibly lose and be banged up or we rest en masse and get beaten and be fresh to finish 9th (I would have strategically rested a couple in the middle of the season but that is neither here nor there).

But I was more defending Lever in that, with the midst of having so many of our better players pushing through injury, Lever’s in particular looked hard to play through. And he often looked like he couldn’t push off his right foot and that would impact his form and ability to compete. I thought it was deeper than the fasciitis and the plantarus muscle? I am no expert but I had this a couple seasons back and it made it hard to walk after a game, painful during a game and then I took a month off because of that uncomfortableness.

This is just a long way of saying that people shouldn’t criticise Jake for 2022. Just one of those things.

Yep and this is an intelligent way for us to approach trades. Being regarded as fair and able to make deals done that bring in the players we need also make us an attractive destination for players as they know if we're interested in bringing them in then we will get the deal done.  We don't end up in the messy situation where clubs dig their heels in and deals either don't get done or one side concedes at the last minute.
