I actually think they cannot. Salem is a mile off 2021 form and is really back to his pre 2021 form where he was just serviceable and would have a above avg game every 4-5 matches.

Bowey is a great kick but is a small body with not a lot of speed. He may come good in a few years but at this stage his trajectory is looking to be more of a role player. Rivers ,  No.

You may not accept this assessment, but to implement a fast ball movement game plan, you simply cannot rely on the guys above given what we have seen this year.

If only Hunt was a more reliable kick and an a-grade decision maker.

But if Hunt was he would be be costing us 800k a year.

With the others, compare them to the disposal you saw yesterday, ours stacks up and if we have speed by leg and ball movement Langers becomes more dangerous, our forwards have spaces and one on ones and not a stacked back 50.
The slow movement isnโ€™t helping.

Should be dropped for Weideman next week.

Jackson is stealing valuable ruck minutes off the best ruckman in the league and youโ€™d back Weid over Jackson as a mostly stay at home forward.

Not sure which way LJ will decide.
But having a look through the Dockers list to see if any add-on players could be in a Jackson deal.  Sure we could ask for Haydn Young or Andy Brayshaw but we need to be realistic.
We could ask for Freo 1st round pick for 2022 & 2023 & a player.
Ruckman Lloyd Meek could be a good backup for Max Gawn. Meek is a huge 203 cms 105 kgs.  Behind Darcy as the key ruckman.  Another is youngster Josh Treacy could be one to consider. Heโ€™s a solid tough young key forward from country Victoria.  Still developing and just turned 20yo.  If we think that Tmcd is close to the end, BBB has probably only 2023 left given his knee issues and the Weid is not the answer, then we need another young key forward to be alongside JVR in years to come. Might be worth checking in on Treacyโ€™s availability as a handy set of โ€œadded steak knivesโ€ in a deal.

Rubbish, I have been pretty much completely absent for at least 5 years. Just could not be bothered telling you my mail only to be abused. For some reason I have felt like taking on the DL abusive bullies this week.  I must be quiet at work!!!!

For the record saying who we are making a play for should never be read as we are getting.

In saying all of that if Jackson goes which is likely the Dees will almost certainly get Grundy.  We have made a huge play for him. But this you can read in the MSM and this does not mean its 100%.

You've been pretty much absent except for coming onto the boards last year and this year to pot our current president.

This fits perfectly with the narrative that Luke just doesn't know what he wants. Melbourne have played this perfectly, giving him time and not an ultimatum.

I still think it's more likely he leaves, but would be very happy if he signs on for 2 years

If I told you, you would not believe me anyway.  Regardless clearly I cant tell you this. I would never be privy to this information again and I would destroy a good thing.  Its up to you if you want to believe me or not.  I will however, have a long list of abusive DLs I will be expecting an apology form in October.

There's a specific form that needs to be completed when making an apology to you?

A touch beauracratic I would have thought.

Whateley on AFL 360 said in his segment with Goodwin and Hardwick that the narrative around Jackson to the west has changed recently.  Goodwin maintained the give him all the time he needs line.  I reckon it's likely he stays.

I reckon we are genuinely treating the situation with compassion. He is young, he is uncertain, so we are treating him well and supporting him rather than pressuring him to sign. A hard sell might push him further away.

Oh no!  Letโ€™s not help Collingwood with their sal. cap problems.

Grundy is a starโ€ฆ.. but 29 ,and under an injury cloud.

Demons handling the LJ situation very well. Supporting him and not adding pressure. Giving us the best chance to retain him

We don't need Meek unless he's steak knives Lobb is the one I'd be interested there is talk that he's on the move. He can kick goals too unlike Jackson and Grundy.

I agree. Lobb would be a suitable trade and give us what we need. But I heard he wants to go to the Dogs. Surely we are a better match if LJ goes.

Lobb is 1 or2 cm. shorter than Gawny, but lacks the heartโ€ฆ..badly. Too timid to play ruck.A bit slow up forward. Can mark, but doesnโ€™t often . Good set shot for goal though.

If we lose Jackson to Freo, get Meek back to Melbourne ( Lobb should be called โ€œMeekโ€!) as the proverbial โ€œsteak knivesโ€ in a trade deal.

Yes agree itโ€™s not Lobb for LJ โ€ฆ heโ€™s as steak knives with 1st round draft pick. But Lobb does have the ability to kick goals and relieve ruck which is what we would need to aim to get to replace LJ if he goes.

Don't worry GNF all fun and games better to have some gossip than none at all. Don't worry about those keyboard bullies.

Well one thing we can probably be sure of is, if LJ stays, Grundy is not coming.

Not sure Trac offers much as a stay at home forward. He need to be in the game

Errr Trac cant kick goals unfortunately   19 G 30 BH for 2022

Averages just under a goal a game so he isnt going to make much difference

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front. They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, theyโ€™re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this weekโ€™s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckmanโ€™s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipperโ€™s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

Following a disastrous 0โ€“5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
