That's a ridiculous measurement. There's been plenty of players who have played well in Grand Finals that had average careers. Shane Ellen is the first that comes to mind. And playing well in 1 game doesn't make you a proven anything.

We won't be asking for any players, aside from steak knives Meek. As Goodwindees said, we'll get draft picks, and potentially pursue a free agent with our cap space.

I'm predicting we get a latter top 10 pick, another 1st rd (this year or next) and steak knives Meek. There may also be shuffling of picks.

We all agree on that. But Jason is not infallible.

Would you rather have Weid or Curnow or H. McKay.

I am not blaming JT here, but trying to show that good picks don’t guarantee a good player.

When you lose or gain an AFL player, there is exposed form at AFL level and you have a fair idea of his ability. Drafting is often based on hope that development will see the player making it, but that doesn’t always happen.

That is why if Jacko goes, I would want to see one player at least, who is best 22 for us straight away, plus a top pick, plus steak knives, like maybe a Meek.

Imagine losing Jacko, and getting a couple of picks that don’t get us a regular top 22 player. It would be a disaster of sorts.

It would not be ideal - I think we will try to tee up a ‘Hogan into May’ like swap. BUT if we don’t have the player lined up, we should just take the draft capital and get better. You don’t want to force yourself into a Dan McStay when you’re looking for a Ben King.

If we do lose Jackson, would we prefer a Lobb or a Grundy?

Neither. I’d rather Meek on a low wage and chase a young key forward. If we lose Jackson we need to replace both his position in the short term, and his expected productive value in the long term. Meek ticks the first box. A young key forward fills a need for our side.

Lobb would be better than our key fwd options we have at the moment, but he is 29 and injury prone.  has scored 30 goals and is playing 2nd ruck.  been marking well.  gettable key fwds are really few and far between at the moment

would need a high first rounder too but

Lobb for Jackson is akin to trading in your Mercedes for a Trabant. No thanks.

I was responding to your post where you called all West Aussies soft: I most definitely don’t wear my service as a badge of honour. There’s laws against deserting your regiment/unit during an operation or deployment. It does sound like losing Jacko is becoming a real prospect.

If that's the case then I just hope we are circling the right Docker trade options.

Hayden Young is clearly our best option - being the left-foot defender that would replace Hibbo next year and May's kick-in duties down the track.

Ironically Young was our expected early pick when we went with Jackson and Pickett in the 2019 draft and is a Dandenong lad who went with pick 8 or 9.

I'd reckon their first pick (around 15-18) and Young would be fair compensation and I'd be happy if we went with Lobb in lieu of pick 15-18, although I suspect Lobb has already priced himself out of the market and his haircut doesn't help either!

The side bonus with losing Jackson is that it should enable us to re-sign Angus.

You’ve gotta wonder what Sean Darcy is thinking. His “backup” coming in on a long term, high wage contract. I wouldn’t be surprised if Sean Darcy was a quietly pretty miffed

If we took him it would very soft trading.

Tex? Ben King who signed he's contract extension earlier on the year perhaps.

I thought it was reference to Weid and Mitch Brown not being able to hold their position in the team.

Oh yeah it could be?

While keeping Jackson would be preferable, Hawks after losing Franklin, and Cats - Ablett, managed to win flags and Cats having renewed a list that has made top 4 majority of last 15 years Cats do have a number of massive benefits due to their location that helps with managing list)!

If it’s Freo, I’d take Lobb, best ruck/forward replacement, want a first pick this year and next year for our second.
Why Lobb, if Jackson leaves you go Max then no Jackson or Daw, so must bring in AFL ready replacement. The two firsts are obvious, to give Taylor enough flexibility to draft or trade for additional forward power!

If Freo are paying 1.3m per year, means Demons would have been paying 900k - $1M, so opens up $$$ for Gus, Kossie etc.

It is a pity, as LJ, Kossie, Rivers, in 2019 draft were the next generation after Trac/Oliver, but hopefully Taylor can pull a rabbit out of a hat with picks we get for Jackson!

As I have said, Essendon has several young talls and they are apparently into Bedford.

Cox, Jones, Bryan, Baldwin, Reid, Eyre, Voss, Brand, Mc Bride are all not going to be in their 22.

With 2 metre Peter down forward, they can't go too tall.

Hope we are looking at this list.

While not all are key forwards, it would allow us to add depth to key stocks and more options in different positions.

The article itself says:  “They’ve tried and failed on a couple already this year to get them on the hook.”  so it would be players from other clubs.

Grain of salt and all that Luci, a relative plays golf regularly with Mitch Lewis's father. My relative was told us and the Bombers were very keen on Mitch and we did put something forward to him prior to Mitch extending beyond next year with the Hawks recently. He could be one.

If Jackson goes let's bank some picks. I don't want Lobb who is 29, inconsistent and injury prone. Grundy is 28 and his best football is probably past him. If we do trade lets get in a 23-27 year old.

Well there is a very good young prospect playing in  GWS backline.

Yep. Agree. Lobb is a waste of time.

Believe we tried both Mitch Lewis and Ben King. Both were long shots and extended at their current clubs.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
