Any trade on LJ will be a big loss really. However if that trade helped keep Gus and Oliver then I suppose that needs to be considered as part of things as well, however sad I felt about it. But we would then head into 2023 then needing both a ruck and a key forward, with our season at massive risk to a Gawn injury. 

My own gut feeling is that he leaves...but that as he matures he lives to regret it. Genuine flag windows like the one we're in dont come along that often ...and for some players not at all. He's cutting off maybe 3 more years of playing in that possibility. Its not that I wouldnt wish him well....and I could rewatch the end of the 3rd to remind me , but I would be hoping he doesn't get to play in another premiership.

Surely, MFC can wedge both WA clubs, and essentially tell LJ, 'we can trade you to WC for pick 2 and second rounder, if you want to go home, thats fair a reasonable, but unless Freo match it we won't be trading you to them'. 

Freo would have to find quality player or two that wants to return to Melb. They have a few.

Lobb was on the trading doco last year wanting to go to Vic, but you'd think he is only worth an early 2 rounder.

Either way, the goss is it'll be Freo and the club at this stage have said the deal will need to involved Andrew Brayshaw.

Young Brayshaw is a gun and will be for 10 years.  Sure wer'e exposed losing Jackson, but  would Freo trade out their next skipper?

That isn't really correct.  They need to use a first round draft pick and it doesn't matter if it is #1 or #18.  As I have mentioned before, Eagles could split pick #2 for say two lower top 10 picks and offer us one of them (and some other combo of 2022 and 2023 picks).  They then use the other themselves and abide AFL rules.

 

With Freo, it is exactly the same this year for Jackson as it was for Cerra last year but in reverse.  If they can't get the deal we want done, then Jackson doesn't go to Freo.

Cerra and his manager did a sensible thing for himself and for his club by not nominating a Victorian club until his manager knew which Vic club could get the deal done.  By all accounts he wanted to come to the dees but we couldn't get the deal done so he went to Carlton. 

Hopefully, Jackson and his manager have the same integrity that Cerra did and find the club that can do the deal before nominating one.

We would be obliged to deal with the club he chooses.

In my response to another poster above, hopefully Jackson and his manager do what Cerra did last year and not nominate a club until they found the club that could get the deal done.

I would like to think that the he repays the great start we have given him in his career by not putting us in a position where we get screwed in a trade.

Not sure it is exactly the same. There's only 2 teams over there, so the options are way more limited. Plus, Jackson could walk to the draft and end up at the Eagles (I don't think that will happen though).

Also, don't think the Eagles better draft hand makes any difference in relation to this trade. We're not going to be accepting pick 20 for Jackson, and I'm not convinced the Eagles will be bottom 2-3 next year.

Have we not reached a point in the game or in life where people can be upfront and honest. If Jackson has already made up his mind, tell the club and the players. If I was a coach or teammate not only would I have more respect for him but I would also understand and be empathetic. Whilst it may be seen as disruptive by some, I think it’s more disruptive the longer it goes on. We keep hearing professional sport is a business these days, we’ll this is just part of it. By knowing early it also gives us more time to explore our options.

Pick 20 came from the idea that they can't trade pick 2 for a player.

If they trade pick 2 for two top 10 picks, they would still need to trade both those picks (at least) for Jackson though and then they're back in the same boat.

Lets say WCE trades #2 for #6 and #10.  We get #6 and their 2023 first which is likely to be in the #7-#9 range, giving us two top 10 picks.  Or they can split their 2023 first etc etc and we get one and they keep one.  We give them a pick back etc.  There are so many permutations! 

My point is WCE can get a deal done far more easily than Freo can.  And Jackson can repay our investment by nominating the state but not the club.

Aside from BS journalist tweets/rumours and Goodwin saying he is hopefully Jackson will stay for the long haul is there anything else that has occurred to make everyone sure he will leave?

He would be mad not to at least sign for 2 more years and then spend 8 years in WA.

I'm backing him to sign on
