McKay and Curnow will be Restricted Free Agents next year so there would be no need to trade.

I'd be rapt to land either of these two, but if Carlton matched the offer (and I reckon they would), a trade would then become necessary.  This is what happened with Jeremy Cameron to Geelong.

Carlton have Curnow, McKay & De Konig all out of contract next year, if we lose Jacko, I’d be trying very to shake one of those loose with that money.  At that point we could offer the dollars and success.

Carlton could be stretched with the dollars. McKay & Curnow will be RFAs.

Were we to win another flag this year 🤞, I’d bare no ill will if Jacko left.

Of course id much rather him stay, but if I were to see a flag in person, on top of finally see us raise the cup last year (all be it from here in Melbourne), then all would be right in the world.

This is how I see it too, same with Gus. Would like them both to stay though. It seems Lachie Neale is going to sign ax extension with the Lions. Maybe freo want to use the money elsewhere?

I find the talk of Jackson (and Brayshaw) leaving weird, tbh.

I imagine the press conference and a reporter asking him why he left, if not for just money... and Jackson saying "... after these last two premierships in my three years so far at Melbourne, I figured I should roll the 18-sided dice and abandon my red and blue teammates and the lure of a truly historic football dynasty and hope something better happens in my football career. It seems the smart thing to do."

Doh, what?...

Or (if it happens) he might say: "I've been lucky enough to have had success so far in my career, and the chance to bring that over to my home state and try to do it in front of all my friends and family is really exciting".

The main thing I'll take out of today is that contract talks are still underway and not overway.

Gotta take positives where you can find them.

If the $$$ involved mean we keep Brayshaw and lose Dogga - I'm OK with that.  Brayshaw is far more important IMV

And we will get serious compensation for trading jackson at the $$$ involved - 2 top 10 and an emerging star would be going rate for a million dollar per year contract. Or top 10 and their Brayshaw. It's going to cost them plenty if they think he's worth the dollars reported

If he decides to go( hopefully he won’t), what do people think is a fair deal for him?

Just had a look at the Jeremy Cameron trade. Cats gave up picks 13, 15 and 20 (article says they were all first round picks)and got back 2 second round picks.
If he goes to the Eagles it’s pretty easy pick 2 and another first round probably gets it done.
I have no idea how it might work with Freo. They must clearly be willing to move a player or players that have some decent value.
Thoughts?!

If you read all the previous posts you will see what others think we will get, no need to really though as he will be staying.

Real estate industry sources are telling me the search for a new home in Melbourne is off - Luke and his parents can no longer afford to buy here because of interest rate rises.

Forget the players’ CBA - we’re going to lose him because of the RBA!

A lot of water to go under before that happens. But if Dogga does in fact want to go to the Eagles, I think they will split pick 2 into a couple of 1st rounders in the teens. Then offer us one of those and a 2nd rounder (about 20).

No where near enough

Tim Kelly trade was 14 18 (future first) 24 and 37.... he's not worth anywhere near luke jackson

Nah I don’t think that gets it done. Freo made it pretty clear last year to Carlton that pick 6 had to be part of the Cerra deal. I think if West Coast watered down pick 2  we would wake away unless it was for two top 10 picks.

Say two x 2.5 mill terraces somewhere ...0.75% RBA increase on 80% of that is only about $30k more than last year (so far)

Beer n chips money for Jacko

And with a slight tweak to his contract we could cover another 0.75% RBA slug for later this year quite easily for a bit of forward protection

Alot less if those two properties are somewhere near Casey

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
