Kade Chandler

The Herald Sun reporting today that Kade Chandler could be on the move to the Crows.

“Melbourne has eight players without a contract for next year, including small forward and grand final emergency Kade Chandler, who is originally from South Australia.

It’s believed the Crows met with Chandler last week and could look to add him to a small forward corps that includes James Rowe, Shane McAdam, Lachie Murphy and Ned McHenry.

Chandler, 21, has managed only six games since the Demons drafted him as a rookie three years ago and is stuck behind the likes of Kozzy Pickett, Alex Neal-Bullen and Charlie Spargo.

But he’s a strong VFL performer and averaged 15 disposals, four tackles and one goal as a pressure forward at that level this year.”

Damn damn damn. He’s a rookie and out of contract so trading is basically not a thing. Would have loved him to stay for depth, but understand the lure of playing 22 games. Good luck to him. Damn!

I just saw that article. Would hate to lose him and he seems a really popular member of the group, but would understand if he wanted more opportunities.

We still have Bedford who we'll hopefully keep and another year will be put into Bailey Laurie, so we won't be lacking for that role if Chandler does leave. But in an ideal world I'd love for him to stay.

It says that Melbourne has eight players without a contract. Who are the other seven?

Have heard murmurs that all of Hibberd, Baker, Bedford and Daw have been offered one year deals, though there's nothing official there.

So watch this space with those four and will be interesting to see what happens with Hore, Turner & Declase.

If the player wants to leave after seeing the premiership team in action he has not enough drive or faith in his ability to break into the team next or the year after.

I like the look of Chandler but when he plays in the 1st he tries too hard and does not look comfortable and as a result does less team things and more survival things.

I rate Chandler -  more than any of the other players listed above.  I really hope we keep him

I do as well but he might be after more game time, he would walk into Adelaide's team, i assume he would get a better, longer deal at the Crows as well.

I hope for the sake of his career he goes to the Crows. He'll get far better opportunities there then he will here.

This is what happens when you win a flag. You'll lose fringe players who are just right on the cusp to lower clubs. We were just lucky that we had pretty much zero injuries to Pickett, Spargo and ANB.

3 years on the list for 2 senior games, averaging 5.5 disposals and 0 scores. 3 clangers from 4 disposals in his one game this year.

I've seen zero evidence that he is an AFL calibre player, so I'm more than happy for him to leave and wish him well elsewhere.

Didn’t Majak just re-sign a 1 year contract with us? Hibberd will get another year if he wants it; Hore, Baker, Bedford I would offer two years, the others I’m not fussed about.

He really loves the club and is very close with a lot of the players. He may choose to back himself in. He is probably next cab off the rank if Spargo or Pickett get injured.
Hope he stays as we don’t have great small forwards depth.

This is how I feel on the matter, i like Chandler. Victim of lack of VFL due to COVID and also the form/lack of injuries to the small forwards this year. Would like him to stay another year, but understand if he searches senior footy.

People seem to forget that we were very lucky with injuries this year.  Chandler impressed in the pre-season (kicking 2-3 goals against the reigning premiers the tigers) and was unlucky not to be in the side round 1.  The team's forward pressure was consistent all year and after winning so many on the trot, you couldn't drop any of Spargo, Kozzie or ANB.

Probably better for his development to leave, but I feel if he does, he will be one of those players that people will say "Gee hasn't he come on - if we knew he could do that we would have kept him".  When in reality, the signs are there - lack of consistent VFL competition, our form and lack of injuries has disguised it.

Very true, I’d be happy if he decided to stick around for another year. The more players that know the system and buy in the better we get, it’s a tough nut to crack the best 22 but Bowie showed that once you get that chance if you keep your form it’s your spot to lose.

Played an excellent game against Richmond in the first practice match this year kicking 3 goals. He was that impressive that when he copped an injury scare, I recall posters being worried about his availability for round 1.

Not sure if that game was an outlier or if there’s genuinely something to work with.

He was poor in his only start this year against Carlton.

Yes I think he has shown some ability in limited games but ultimately behind a few players in Pickett and Spargo so difficult to see him getting in.

Chandler is on the cusp and Crows might give him a good opportunity.

We also have Bedford in line for a small forward role or even Laurie as a small creative forward.

Wishing him the best if he moves on.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
