I watched the prelim last night. Geelong weren’t even bad. They just could not run and are so reliant on their older players. Literally their handful of younger players were absolutely putrid.

Also their game plan doesn’t hold up in finals, but it’s the only game plan they can execute with the age and lack of speed on their list. They would die after 10 minutes playing manic two way running defense like we do.

Ok, so what is Wells record of recruiting (not father son picks) good to great players in this pick range (2nd & 3rd rounders)?

Is his recruiting mastery another of those AFL myths?

Seems the Cats have had a big leg up from Father/Son and trading along with some good first rounders early days.

Having a look through 'rpfc' original post, over the last 10 years Stewart was a great get...Kelly.

Very dangerous indeed, an AA defender and a mid who's no longer there. So one player.

Interestingly, talking to a cats staffer yesterday who had asked Wells after the prelim if he was aware of Fristch and tried to draft him. His answer was that we’d gone to great lengths to keep Fritsch well hidden. I find this response quite amusing. I’m fairly certain he was playing regularly at Casey, demonstrating  exactly the qualities that he does now, in the same role, and 3/4 of this forum knew we were keen on him.

Having said that, they did get Tim Kelly before Fritsch, but I’d have Fritta over Lachie Fogarty.

 and they failed at the last post.   it was only going to get much harder after that,

they've left their rebuild too long now and will pay for it for some time

hawthorn,  geelong, collingwood and probably richmond in the same leaky boat

Wells was probably afraid to admit that no-one at Geelong actually knows where Casey is.

Even I could see that Fritta had AFL potential.  Sounds like just an excuse.  If he was hidden it was in plain sight.  Perhaps he had some baggage.

Can i say that I was amazed that a player of this caliber was still available so late in the draft (usually means you have picked a stinker).

I'm actually quite surprised that a team as old as Geelong (I mean the age of the club, not the players) and as successful as it has been recently, has only won 9 VFL/AFL Premierships overall.

I could see it from my loungeroom when watching the Casey games... They have absolutely no excuse
