I'm mentally prepared for defeat.

I'm absolutely resigned to the possibility of a loss.

But I think we will win.

Watching the 64 "replay" always had me feel my team was from the past. Not relevant to today.

Barracking for them for the last 50 years has  mainly felt either embarassing  ( highlighted in 2013/ 14 / the lack of a home base/ the press feasting on the tanking debacle) or just ill fated ( 1987 prelim/ the off season when we lost Schwartz, Jakovich, Charles basically for good/ Trengoves foot/ Scullys heart/  the great men Jimmy and Robbie passing...etc etc )

When we were good we were just never THAT good and when we were bad we were beyond horrible. This season, come what may, I already have had those feelings shifted a lot. A flag would open a whole new dimension to me as a dee. Would feel like it was all worthwhile somehow. 

Winning would be absolutely incredible! years of being embarrassed to wear the red and blue vindicated!

I think we will win but even if we lose I’ll be proud that at last we have a serious team. We’ve been a joke for long enough

It’s a good question. Of course very happy after 57 years - yes I got on board in ‘64. Pleased that the club will have regained the respect we had all those years ago - hopefully it should be held for some years to come. Happy for my sons (in their 30’s still loyal Dees supporters), and the young ones today who can grow up supporting a very good team. Think of those who worked so hard - Robby, Jimmy, Sean, and Dean. Yes mistakes were made but their hearts were Red and Blue. Finally, given the rebuild admin/finances/coaches/players since 2014, makes you realise how much is required to even get the club to this position, so proud to be Red and Blue!

A flag would mean everything to me. There are two groups of people: those whose team have won a flag in their lifetime, and those that haven't. I'm desperately hoping to join the former set next week.

A meme did the rounds a while ago showing a battered old VHS tape, with the caption something like "How Carlton fans watch their last premiership."  Lucky them, I thought to myself. For us, tragically the 64 Grand Final footage is mostly lost.  In a week's time, dare we dream of having a high-def flag...?

Typo

After being constantly kicked in the balls over the course of 45 years, I have convinced myself I am fully prepared for a loss.

At the same time I know I will not cope with it and it will consume my soul, knocking 5 years off my life. 

I am quietly confident of a win. It means everything.

Vindication for my years of support even while being told by my Collingwood and Carlton supporting uncle's that I would never see a Melbourne flag in my life.

I am absolutely not mentally prepared for a defeat. I'll survive it I'm sure, but no. This has to be it.

2021 has to be the year the drought breaks.

Blowing then away would be much better on the heart but a close game has a great rewatchability factor.

Put it this way if I was a Cats supporter I'd rather chuck on 2009 or 2011 over 2007 (though wouldn't it be great to have the option!)

Absolutely everything.  It would fill a much needed void in my life.

the weird part if it goes well, we cannot celebrate as I have always dreamed of.

 

Relief in that I could say that I can point to a time when we were the best during my lifetime. I’ve yet to experience that and like others have said, I’ll be able to watch more matches and actually relax.

Since I’ve followed us, we’ve been like the Napoleon Dynamite of AFL football teams. Amazingly unfashionable, very happy with our perception of what we think we are, but genuinely disrespected and bullied by the opposition who don’t believe 1% of the bluff and BS we spout.

 

It’ll mean a hell of a lot more than losing it.

I’ve never been embarrassed to wear the red and blue.

Certainly, it could have been easier, but it wasn’t. We were in a tough spot. $5m in debt at the start of the GFC, two expansion clubs, free agency and an ageing list. There have been a lot, particularly within this administration who have gotten us here, and sure things didn’t go well with coaching and draft selections back then, but my gosh Jim picked us up and put us on this journey. For if he didn’t start us off I don’t know if we would be here.

This win would mean the world for me, but deep down this one is for Jim.

What would it mean to me?

I don't have any family or friends here to share it with apart from my lovely wife. The feeling will be awesome but not the same as being down in Vic with my clan.

 

I'm looking forward to everyones kids, the poor innocent little tackers finally being able to wear the Red and Blue guernsey that all of us oldies make them wear and not be teased, bullied, ridiculed or laughed at.

To see our little Demons walk around with pride, knowing they are finally wearing the colors of a club that has reached the top.

It would certainly mean a lot to me. The period in which I've supported Melbourne hasn't been pretty by any means. I started following Melbourne in 2009 and since then we've only made the finals twice. It took me such a long time to see what success looks like. I'd consider this the first year where I've actually had the chance to watch the team be dominant on such a consistent level, so winning the flag would be the icing on the cake. 

Losing the grand final this year obviously won't be the end of the world, but I think most of our supporters have been waiting long enough for us to break our drought.

There is way too much at stake for a close game. I’m looking forward to being so far in front my dad, uncle and me can open the whiskey at the third quarter, lay back and throughly enjoy what is a certain premiership

Next year can be the close one. There’s too much pressure on needing to win this one. The one thing I am SO tired of hearing is “when have Melbourne last won a premiership?” We win and that’s the last time we hear that

Next Saturday night means the world to me, being of Italian heritage most of the family and friends are Carlton,  Collingwood and Essendon supporters, I'm the only Dee, and have coped heaps of sh** over the years. I remember walking into the G with a neutral jacket over my melbourne jumper almost embarrassed to wear it and quickly covered it back up if we lost,  I don't have many melbourne supporting friends that's why I delve into demonland on a dayly basis for years... We have all been through the lows of this club, now its OUR TIME, F#*K THE Bulldogs we will win and become a strong club on and off the field once again.
