Imagine the new three year deal may stretch some of his 2022 salary out a little?

its interesting considering he was on the trade table with his best, apparently, behind him.

hopefully took less coin to retain younger players, with the opportunity of future glory the main prize.

Was he actually out of contract this year?

Signing on means this will take him to 200 game club. Well done Tommy. Anyone know last play that did that?

Reckon he's taken a slight pay cut?

Reckon he's re-negotiated his wage, and it's all to help us bring in Cerra and maybe others

Long term security for Tom and they have most likely reworked his average salary to give us TTP room. Pretty happy with this.

Will he get through the life of the contract? 🤔

The new deal for Tom McDonald comes a year after he was shopped around for a trade.

Most likely the remuneration has been reworked to give the club additional room to move with regard to future trading, possibly with Adam Cerra in mind.

Recently, the club announced a contract extension for Joel Smith and it brought out the best in Smith for a few games.

Good sign for TMac

Great news for Tommy. Really pleased for him and the club.

Spells the end for Weid though, doesn’t it?

Getting a 2 year extension rather than 1, suggests to me they gave him the extra year on the condition it would be on very modest coin which allowed the club even greater flexibility to smooth it over 3 years ... club can't do a thing wrong at the moment ...

I’d say so. It also wouldn’t be right to keep him in the vfl team as depth as there AFL teams crying out for a #2 tall.

Smoothing out the coin! Cerra must be on the way :mahoney2:

I dont think money is the issue with Cerra, its our trade currency.  Not sure how we get it done

I've heard we're trading out Brayshaw, Gawn and a future 1st as per the Age?

Melbournes unsung Mark Maclure.

He owned the Tower at the same time didn't he

Outside of the obvious salary smoothing this is a great thing to do for the clubs culture…I can’t help but be in awe of the culture this club is continuing to build - this is a great resigning that only enhances the demons culture

They say culture starts at the top….we all know it started awhile ago but i reckon Kate is doing some incredible things….

Yes, they all have family in Perth. The future 1st has future cousins apparently in Fremantle.

My man!

What a journey Tommy has been on.

CHB in a struggling team
Swing man in a rising team
Main forward target in a Prelim team
Massive contract
Drops of the face of the earth in a struggling team
Injury
Return to form in a dominant team, first as the main man, then as a 2nd banana to Sideshow Bob in a meat and 2 veg arrangement
Now another contract
Premiership?

Here's to a couple more years of the meat and 2 veg show.

Good stuff. Even if he is cooked by that last year, it smooths the salary out and sets us up to have a real crack for the next few years.

Jones is the only player on our list to have played 200 games. His 200th was in late-2015.

Bernie Vince played his 200th game for us in 2017, but obviously they weren't all with us.

I think, prior to Jones, the last MFC player to get to 200 games for the club was Brad Green in 2010.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
