Agree its not personal when you get to to a GF. Glad I dont decide as they face the same issue with Hunt as he wont have played for some time. I feel for both of them as they would know if there is to be a change it will come down to them. I assume they will tell them privately well in advance so the only nerves the team has are those associated with a GF.

Hibbo’s not getting dropped I’d suggest. Out of he, Hunt and Joel Smith, he’s simply the better footballer. The question on him is whether he’s slowed down, and the mild fumbles he seems to get on account. I reckon when he was dropped, it was off the back of our late season loading, and he was just worn thin. He seemed full of run on Friday night, and with his great competitiveness (what we love about him) and experience, added GF adrenaline and another fortnight’s rest, he’ll be primed. No change.

As we know, the club had practice match a week before the prelim to get prepared for the game and mitigate the impact of a two week break.

Going by the footage and photos the club posted, and piecing together various snippets from club interviews, the session seemed to involve 2 twenty minute high intensity quarters with umpires. I heard Nibbler say they went in pretty hard.

That was followed  by a combination of running drills, ball use drills and tackling drills. I presume these were in large part about making sure the full session (ie practice match and drills) approximated the total loading, intensity, physical impact and mental arousal of game.

The club has said they plan to repeat this exercise, which makes a lot of sense. I presume it will be this Saturday.

That session will be no doubt be a major factor in their selection decisions, so it will be an awesome session to watch.

I wonder if it might open to the public? Unlikely you'd think, but if it is it would be great for some WA demonlanders to get down there and file a report to give those of us in Vic a feel for things over there.

Fair chance it'll be a closed session.

I did read that there will be an open training session on grand final week at Optus Stadium for fans to attend.

Durango to put it simple..

Trent Rivers WON'T be playing on a wing. Never has at the Dees and no way in [censored] hell will they then just chuck him in that position on grand final day.

He'll be playing down back and most likely take Weightman.

Smith who has played majority on the wing and inside will most likely go head to head with Langdon. If he does go inside then maybe perhaps he'll go with a Oliver or Petracca as Viney will do the tag on Libratore

I'm with you Dazzle and Durango why the changes when it ain't broke.

Some moves mid game are ok if needed BUT you dont implement changes like you suggested. Dazzle is correct and you may need to hold the brain fades for 2022.
Sorry but enjoy the game snd our combined pressure and form will see us win by between 12 and 30 points depending how accurately we kick.

They won't change the 22 but the sub could be changed. Is it Smith, Hunt or Jordon? That's the question.

Yes let's just leave it up to the coaching staff Shaun..

Maybe do an article on 30 other blokes that deserve a chance and they'll say the exact same thing.

Shaun's quotes were pretty balanced Dazzle. Shaun was really just saying Joel would deserve to play given the effort he has put in. Joel likely would have played in the prelim if he did not get injured, so you can see where Shaun is coming from.

Joel will need to train in the practice session to have any chance.

Dazzle is a [censored] of the highest order. I have him on ignore but some of the rubbish that comes from his keyboard filters through. Leave Shaun alone he has every right to have an opinion.

Age Footy Podcast has me a wreck - the pre GF bye favours Bulldogs, Bulldogs have the momentum , Weightman and Keath back, Bulldogs a better win etc etc

Wouldn’t you rather beat them and there be no excuses for either side, our best 22 vs there best 22 I still think we win more often than not. I know that would be much more satisfying. I don’t want to win only because they couldn’t put there best team out there and or have people put a question mark over it. As to the bye it won’t hurt our prep so not worried about that, if we do loose it’s only because the dogs were better.

As the coaches said on 360 on Monday night, it's pretty much impossible to have closed sessions these days. So it'll be on public display.

When we do get to train on Optus, we'll likely do anything we want to keep secret there.

Steven May moved well during Wednesday morning’s session, with no strapping on his injured right hamstring, and is a certain starter for the grand final, barring another mishap.

But Jayden Hunt, who has now returned to full fitness from an ankle injury, is pressing his case and remains a huge chance of being the 23rd man.

Port beat the swans and GWS in 2021 - no other finalists (i don't count the marvel win against the dogs - it was as good as a draw.)

The Port season had an easy draw and they were the most underwhelming 2nd place team in history.

They have been grossly over-rated as was the Dogs win last week against them.

The Dogs as a consequence are the most over-hyped GF participant. They are not the Bombers in 2000, Hawks in 2013-2015 , not Lions in 2002 - 2003. The Dees are.

That's fine of course, its all a matter of opinion. I still rate the cats and they were crushed by " the hottest team ' ever, according to Isaac Smith.

The media can write the sob story of the Doggies travails afterwards.

Dogs looking at up to 3 changes to their team, the incredible thing is the amount of players used, and changes made and they haven't suffered with any real lack of chemistry. to me it speaks to elite allignment between AFL and VFL.

It's hard to imagine the Doggies won't hit a bit of a wall as this goes on given all the travel they've had to do in the last 5-6 weeks

I hope they hit the wall big time and play like pancakes, I really do🥴

Hunt being the sub is interesting - but if you want that run - then just play him.

His defensive work is much better and will provide another option to go to Weightman and will make him work the other way.

What a stupid negative comment bringing up a 3 year ago mistake by the Coach. Unnecessary for both and Bailey and Goody have both had great seasons.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
