Would be shocked if we delisted him.

At worse just offer him a 1 year deal.

McDonald is pretty much cooked imo. Weideman certainly has an opportunity next year to cement that spot next to Brown.

If we can’t get anything decent for him, then keep him. He’s decent depth at worst and won’t command a big salary. Still has potential at 24 to develop further and play an important role in future seeing as our other KPFs are all nearing the end of their careers.

Based on his output this year, he is not decent depth at all.

He was putid almost every time he set foot on the ground this year.

Well if Weiderman wasn't offered a new contract by us, would Mitch Brown possibly get another 1 year deal as insurance should someone get injured next season?

I actually have more trust in Brown than Weideman to perform a role but still would like Sam to get a contract with us next year

There will be interest in the Weid too good a player. Collingwood, North, Essendon and Freo for starters would be interested in him.

I’m sure there is interest but perhaps not at the terms desired. He should stay for two years and reach FA and give himself a chance to push out TMac or BBB.

If nobody offers anything for him worthwhile, and if there aren’t really many clubs interested I think we could do worse than offer him a 2 year deal at close to bottom dollar with performance based incentives.

He has a bit of a Miller like feel about him, show plenty early and have a purple patch that makes him look like a future star but never seem to find that click into the next level on a consistent basis.

Personally I say keep him, none of our current key forwards are spring chickens.

I would have liked him to be mentored by May.

He needs to learn how to compete and to be physical. I have always believed that Weid would make a good CHB. Petty looks a chance to play FWD with his physicality.

It can't hurt to have multiple strings to your bow.

Question: Know what these 11 players have in common.

Answer: Plenty of the experts on DL wanted them gone over the last few years.

Tom is contributing more than his raw possessions stats show and I wouldn’t describe him as cooked  - that said Weid would be worth hanging on to, if mutually agreeable terms can be reached.

The talent levels are spread thin throughout the league especially with regards to KPF's so Sam might get offered a 2 year deal elsewhere on ok money ($300k - $350k per year?)

If we let him go what do we get in return?  A pick in the mid to late 30's?

Otherwise we could keep him on a lower amount of around $225k - $275k.  Entering his 7th year, anything less than that is entering delist territory

I still believe what is holding him back is self confidence.  If he can overcome that he might be a player.  Needs more aggression & needs to learn how to play in front (even just to feed our small forwards as T-Mac often does)

Pretty much my thoughts Dazzle. Our preferred forward structure includes two KPFs plus Jacko & Fritta. Given our 2 current keys forwards are approaching veteran status, we would be mad to punt the Weed as we have no other young KPF on the list. If one of BBB or TMac go down, at the very least Weed can fill a role.

Weid has rucked in the VFL and got a fair bit of ball around the ground.

Who do we have after Max and LJ to ruck?

Not saying he is a ruckman but he can pinch hit there and after BB and Tom who are the next key forwards?

IMO he stays unless we have someone to replace him with.

He just looked cooked to me. Since he's back injury he looks he's got concrete boots on and can barely break out in a gallop.

Just remember at the start of the pre season both Brown and Weideman were the preferred forward options over McDonald.

In fact they definitely did prefer him as they initially were training McDonald up to be a wingman. Wasn't until both went down with injuries that this opened up the spot for him.

If Weideman stays and is able to get through the summer unscathed and injury free then I think they'll prefer trial the Weideman and Brown combo.

Problem with Weideman is that he's a man who's lost complete confidence in himself. I would trust a Mark Williams to assist him in regaining that confidence back.

I'd imagine Weid gets offered a contract no matter what, and Mitch Brown goes off the list, and Gunston hopefully signs on

I reckon if we get Gunston and then target a backup (mature) ruck, Weid is in big strife.

Tmac had 9 kicks, 5 marks, 5 hand passes, 11 contested possessions. Kicked a goal. Eh average game, fair nuff.

But Weidman has had better stats than this in all of 2 of his 49 games.  We're looking at apples v oranges here imo.

If Tomlinson comes back fit, id like to see Petty shifted to forward to replace Tmac eventually. Definitely a top 22 player who can take a grab and shown excellent contested work.

Geez he has been good in a key post down back though.

Looks to be a rare find. Would be difficult for them to move him when he has found his groove.

Tommo on the other hand was moved down back because he failed in the role we recruited him for.

I don't understand the Gunston move he only has 1 year left with his bad back. Why waste a player on the list? He's signed on at the Hawks until 2022 isn't he? I don't think he would get a game.

HF: NEAL - BULLEN, MCDONALD, PICKETT

F: SPARGO, B.BROWN, FRITSCH.

Their is no one he can replace he will spend his time in the 2's. Keep Weid if they think McDonald is cooked but I don't think he is cooked he's got a couple of years in him especially if that barracker not supporter dopey Dazzle thinks he's cooked then surely he has more years in him. Know nothing clown. Eventually Jackson can take over the CHF\ruck role if McDonald isn't up to it.

    TRAINING: Monday 16th December 2024

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
