Today is going to be a loooong day.

Must win game for premiership aspirations, being able to get through the finals without needing to play port in Adelaide is massive.

It has been 7,685 days since our last Qualifying Final and I still remember that classic as a 14 year old watching Brad Green run riot against the Blues at the MCG.

I’ve never seen a more hungry side. If we bring the heat and the pressure we’ll put the Lions in a spliff.

Just hope I don’t do another rage quit before we go on and do a 46 point turn around…🙄

Never have the Lions or Power been given a greater unfair advantage in a finals series. The AFL have done nothing to make this season fair on Melbourne based clubs but the boys are good enough to overcome these challenges.

Dees by 22 points - ‘Play On!’

Well, it's been a bloody long 2 years but we're finally back on the big stage.

Feel cheated that this game isn't on the MCG in front of a packed 90k, but it is what it is.

It's not the end of the world if we lose tonight but it certainly gets harder.

We've arrived at the start of the summit. Now it's time to climb it.

Go Dees.

We are clearly a better side than Brisbane. If we play near our best we'll win. If we're a bit off, we may not.

My only concern is the number of young players who haven't played in a final before.

So nervous hardly slept last night

After watching port it just shows pressure around the ball and forward 50 and you go a long way to winning

Our time to make a statement like port is now pressure from the opening bounce and watch us rear them apart go dees can't wait

Goody has been saying since Round 1, that our aim is to build a brand of football that stands up to the rigours of finals.
Almost every player interviewed since our win over the Cats, has said that the new season starts now.
We’ve  been single minded on this all year, and the players will be fully primed for this game.  We won’t drop the ball now!
I’d expect it to be a tough ‘finals type’ game, but I’m confident that we’ll win going away.  Dees by 30 to 40 points.

So, how is everyone this beautiful Game Day morning? And by beautiful I mean [censored]ing freezing.

Personally my day has had a not altogether perfect start. I locked myself out of my house and had to climb in through my teenage son’s bedroom window. He’d only been asleep for a couple of hours coz… teenager. Let’s just say he didn’t exactly throw a welcome party for me.

Then at 7/11 the lid wasn’t properly on my coffee cup (7/11 $1 coffee. I know, I really need to take stock of my life) and I ended up wearing the entire contents down the front of my puffer jacket. And not my black or dark-coloured puffer… no, my pale pink puffer, of course. In my haste I grabbed the nearest rag which unbeknownst to me had just been used to wipe up a blue slurpee spill. (Who tf is drinking a slurpee at 7am and temp of 3 degrees?!) So now my pink puffer resembles a Pro Hart painting.

So I sincerely hope y’all’s morning has started better than mine. Regardless, I sincerely hope we all have an awesome night!!!

So pink, which is a kind of red, and slurpee blue, which is a kind of blue .... it's an omen!! Thank you for your service, WCW!

Weekends don't get much bigger in the Nesbitt household than a Qualifying Final and an old Old Firm game. I hope I still have a voice come Monday morning. Enjoy your day everyone.

Yeah, you have to be nervous, eh? The finality of finals is stressful!

Brissy went out in straight sets last year. Chris Pagan won't like another loss in a major final and this team will give plenty.

Maybe a big week of distractions for our blokes as well?

But on the surge we can't be beaten. It's irresistible. Do it for long enough and we'll be in a preliminary final in a couple weeks time.

It'll be a tough one.

They actually won their QF final last year but then lost in the Prelim. Funnily enough, so did Port. The two grand finalists from last year lost their first QF. I feel this year is different though without the bye, so I’m desperate for us to win tonight!

Yeah but how does the brown of the coffee fit in? Oh, never mind.

Our defence will stifle their forwards: I reckon they will struggle to kick double figure goals.

It might be a 50/50 split through the midfield. One player having a blinder might be the difference (Trac, Zorko etc...)

Our forwards as a unit on paper actually don't look frightening, but it is very difficult to cover the vast variety. I reckon they have no-one who can run with and cover Luke Jackson.

Final score something like
Dees 10  14  74     Lions  8  8  56

Stuff me, I need a whisky already!

Coz I’m wearing a Dees beanie! And a Dees face mask. And MFC socks and I’m carrying a Dees tote bag. I’m already up in everyone’s grill as it is!

Just remembered: I’m wearing my Demonland t-shirt too. But relax everyone! The DL t-shirt sustained no coffee besmirching. Phew.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
