Step 1. Select 'Player rankings; contested marks per game'.

Step 2. Limit selection to 'tall forwards'.

Step 3. Check availability, repeat.

Repeat.

Results after a lot of cleaning of too expensive, too old, too rucky, or just d-heads.

Ben McKay, North Melbourne. Is a defender only, and not yet really proven. But should we ask the 'switch' question? Fun fact: this season Ben McKay has more contested marks per game than his brother.

J Hogan. That'd just be too awkward.

Peter Wright. Oh, that's odd. Didn't he used to be a bit of a lanky potato? Would seem to fit our needs. Bonus points, losing him would basically end Essendon structurally.

Jake Riccardi. 14 goals three behinds in last 6 games, and hasn't been goalless in that time. Good signs but hard to know real value.

Hayden McLean. Is he basically what you would get if you put Weideman in a team with a more powerful forward line than ours but which also needs more ruck support?

Darcy Fogarty. Is either in form or very much not in form. 9 games this season. In the most recent 4 he has kicked 12.2 and gave 4 goal assists, but in the first five he kicked 2.3 and one goal assist. Plus, you'd expect the Crows have plans for him for when boofhead retires.

I don't care if he plays in the reserves then.

Surely Melbourne

Remember  Catoggio and Young from Carlton.

Bleak times.

Sorry old enough but I can remember ( I think) Cataggio playing. But no memory of the year or how good or bad either were,

I do remember Tilly, Moore, and Templeton all going to be saviours   Even Barassi tried to walk in water but failed to provide proof.

happy to be proven wrong.

Nick Larkey is the guy to go for in the next couple of years imo. He's 24.  Norf will be going absolutely nowhere for his entire football career. That's almost a dead cert.

Forget about playing finals, if he wants to know what even winning games is like, he will not see out his career at Norf (jake bowey about to go past him on wins) .  Rfa end 2024.  No reason to think he would cost big coin, he'll be wanting out.

Agree. Ben McKay may be worth pursuing also. Seems an unfulfilled talent.

Petty / Turner should cover May. LJ hopefully covers Gawn so I think we are covered in those key positions s for the next decade. Forward line is where we need talent pronto. We could have sustained success for the next 10 years similar to Geelong if we can develop and attract talent there.

Both McKay and Curnow come out of contract next year so we should definitely see how we can target one of them. Will take a mammoth offer though but could pull of a Tigeresque move like they did for Lynch.

Even if Jacko stays and stars, we still need a significant extra ruck. In other words he covers Max but who covers him?

Agree re desperate need for a strong marking forward KPP.

He is certainly big enough, mobile enough and seems capable in terms of marking ability

Has been mostly played as a defender so no idea if he could make a go of a KPF role - his brother does ok !

If nothing else would be a stronger physical presence than BBB - having said that he is below average on almost all key stats during his career so on that basis your assessment of unfulfilled talent is either spot on or he just isn't good enough

Not the worst idea though IMO

Pretty sure that was covered in the unfulfilled talent assessment - either way he is potentially an interesting option which I have no doubt our list management team have or continue to assess

If the opportunity is there at the end of the year to grab for 2 years I would jump at it in a heart beat.

His leadership alone improves us significantly and he would play a great mentoring role on JVR.

3x premiership player, 3x leading goalkicker and All Australian forward.

Unless we have one of the big key forwards in our sights for next year (eg McKay or Curnow), another young key tall in the draft might work well to be mentored by BBB and Tmac in their twilight years. I believe I read here that there's quite a few key talks in this year's draft. If, and a big if, Gus or Dogga leave we should have some decent picks to work with. JVR and another KPF under 26yo will set us up for a good few years

Nah ... all those 10 years players had well and truly retired by the 90s.

Franklin only has a year or so left

They have McDonald, McClean and Armartey as their next key forwards… surely we can get one!

In my opinion, we need to draft a 195cm+ forward to partner with JVR for the long term. Plus we need to recruit a mature tall for depth.

I would be super happy with Gunston for a few years (at the right price). He would compete with TMac and Weid next year which is just what we need until the new blood comes through.

You do realise most of the side from the 90s came through their zone don’t you. The backbone and core of that side came through u19s under Pagan. Nothing to do with attracting players, Dean Laidley couldn’t get a regular game at West Coast and Peter Bell had just been delisted by the Dockers after playing 2 games

You miss the point

That little pesky club wouldn’t have made it into the 90’s without those 2 bought Flags in the 70’s

Fitzroy had a much longer history

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator attended training out at Casey Fields to bring you the following observations from Preseason Training. GATOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS There were 5 in the main rehab group, namely Gawn, Petracca, Fullarton, Woewodin and Lever.  Laurie was running laps by himself, as was Jefferson.  Chandler, as has been reported, had his arm in a sling.  Lindsay did a bit of lap running later on. Some of the ''rehab 5'' participated in non contact drills and b

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
