Requesting his two sons is ridiculous.

If this was approved I would demand to be adopted by someone in the media.

He was claiming his sons were producers for his production company though they are not listed on the company website. Eddie also apparently breached hub protocols during last years GF in Brisbane by partying at a night club for ‘research purposes” for hub management strategies.

Speaking to Perth’s Mix 94.5 on Wednesday, West Australian Premier Mark McGowan said with tongue firmly in cheek that McGuire was denied entry to “protect him from West Australians”.

“He was not happy,” McGowan confessed.

“He’s not essential for the game, he has to stay in Melbourne.”

McGowan was excited about the opportunity to host the grand final, but warned “the strictest and strongest protocols” would be enforced.

“We have all the protocols in place all the rules in place, as we have for the last two years, to hold football and other sporting events, whereby we have very strict rules in place,” he said.

“We’ve secured this event on our own terms. And we’ve ensured that we put in place the very strictest and strongest protocols to protect West Australia, but it’s very exciting.”

Feel bitterly sorry for Ed, not being able to attend the GF (even though he has nothing to do with this year's GF)

Can someone tell me how Damien Barrett, Tom Browne and Hutchy got permission to attend? Do we not have journalists and TV presenters in Perth?

They pay the bills.   SEn and sportsbet etc. Of course Hutchy was going to be there.

What value does he add to the event?
- none.

Eddie

you are pathetic. You have absolutely nothing to do with the GF

Stop taking up headlines

Sit down and put a dummy in your mouth.
As if we want to see your head on GF day…

The nerve of this man

On Footy Classified

“I’m out of it all now, but this is how i want to see it work”….

F Off McGuire… You left an absolute shidshow at The Filth, which is still playing out

Just disappear

I'm based in South East Qld and been a paid up home/away member for nearly 20 years despite very rarely being able to get to the G for a game.

I just booked flights to Perth for the GF weekend so hoping like hell WA changes its current restrictions for Queenslanders over the next few weeks.

Getting a ticket if we make it will be the other big challenge but hoping the MFC allocation won't just be restricted to WA based members.

Fingers crossed on a number of fronts then, but also plenty of sympathy for those who don't have a chance of making it due to COVID and their respective state restrictions.

It feels very MFC for most members to wait a lifetime to see the Dees achieve ultimate success but be unable to witness it in person.

How many Melbourne players originally Sandgropers?

Rivers and Jackson from last week and Kossie has family connections. Nev Jetta’s family always prominent in attendance at the games in Perth and the Brayshaws still plenty of relatives over here.

Ex Dees Woey, Bennell, Norrish, Johnson, Spalding, Army, Gaspar, Irving,  Nicholson, Smoker, Seecamp, Turley, Wiz, Jakovich, Bennett, Kowal, Langmuir, Chisholm, Ready, Chopper and I’m sure there’s many more

Forgot about Jeff’s Garlett, Dean Kent and Harry O

I accepted weeks ago the grand final was in Perth. Yep it [censored] sucks because I always pictured myself taking a few days off and staying down in Melbourne to soak it all that week leading into grand final day with my brother and old man.

I just want a win now! Get through the prelim and win the whole lot! Don't care how we do it!

If there is one small thing I'm annoyed at is that we once again don't get the traditional time slot of 2:30 in the afternoon. Long wait throughout the day for a 7:30 grand final start time. The whole grand final in the afternoon is such a sacred tradition that it just doesn't seem right to me that it's being played in a twilight timeslot.

Surprisingly I got very little sympathy from work colleagues that are combining work and home schooling as I took up the majority of this mornings team meeting outlining the current predicament of Dees supporters ;)  I've accepted that I won't be watching the Dees in person but I think I'll self-combust if I have to watch us play in a GF at home on my own.

Designate a few pubs throughout Victoria - entry for fully vaccinated Melbourne members only. Lock us in and don't let us out for two weeks if necessary!

Sorry, I meant Andy Lovell

Pretty sure he was from Tassie and headed to WA after his stint with the Dees

Idk about others here, but until an hour ago I still harboured a little bit of hope. Oh well. I sincerely hope that should we make it to the big one our interstate diehards cheer loud and proud on our behalf. ❤️💙

Just to add confusion frustration

The AFL will not hesitate to push back its season decider into October and force a three-week break upon competing grand final teams if new host city Perth is locked down with a last-minute Covid outbreak.

AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan finally confirmed the league’s biggest game would be held at Perth Stadium on September 25after agreeing to a deal with the Victorian government.

Victoria's Sport and Major Events Minister (and Carlton tragic), Martin Pakula, has stated that if crowds can't attend the GF in Perth, it will revert to the MCG. So, there's still a chance...

Is that true? Lol that can't be, they're not 18 yet are they?

Five truckies tested positive in SA. 20 exposure sites now listed.

A lot of Port (and a few MFC members) members planning to cross over to Perth later this month will be nervous.

That would be a small comfort. Although there's no chance anyone could attend.

Who do you think the GF bye suits more? Melbourne (should we make it) who have cleared 14 days quarantine by the Prelim final, or the preliminary finalist that comes from South Australia and has to quarantine right up to GF day?

There is no quarantine ATM for South Australians heading to WA, although that could change at any minute.

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturday’s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFL’s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
