I wonder if there's any risk Rivers might want to return to Perth. Freo used pick 7 in his draft on Hayden Young and arguably Rivers has been better than Young or certainly at least as good. He's also 2 years younger than Cerra and has already proven he's going to be an outstanding player. But how much of an upgrade is Cerra over Rivers?  It would want to be a lot to give him up unless there's some risk he might want to go back to Perth anyway.

Why is Rivers gonna leave?

Also loves the Melbourne lifestyle.

I can't see us doing this Cerra trade. We have no draft selection to please Freo. As much as Freo keep asking for Jackson he ain't leaving at all.

for us to get the deal done i'd be looking at the Gold Coast, they've stated they're open to trading good picks for established AFL players, if we had a couple looking for opportunity there may be a chance there, but that's how i'd see that deal getting done, unless someone else left and we bundled picks into a first rounder for Freo

I wouldn't rule out Richmond as a candidate. They're losing Chol and CCJ which will net them 2nd and 3rd round picks presumably on top of the 2 x first rounders they already have. They will have the cash and trade capital. Surely a more appealing destination.

Edit: As much as I would love to add Cerra, I'm hoping we have our eye to the future for a gun KPF.

King, Georgiades, L. McDonald etc..

Richmond have the draft assets to satisfy Fremantle but apparently have no room in their TPP. Unlikely is what I've heard

I think this is the play, Gold Coast Currently have pick 19,

If it were me i'd be attempting to Bundle up Sam and Pick 34 for that pick, and then attempting to engage Richmond on a swap of our 2022 first round pick, and a pick upgrade for them, for their second first rounder pick 16.

The temptation for the Tigers would be if we have a premiership hangover they could get a much better pick next year, but worst case they should get an equal return on investment for that pick, plus an upgrade.

Pick 16 and 19 in my opinion is a good starting point for a deal to bring in Cerra.

so effectively 2022 first rounder, 34 and Weideman for Cerra

Which to be fair and pragmatic, a young bloke with a hot girl won’t even be thinking about his contract.

If he splits with the girl he could be gone!

Chol is a free agent. I doubt he will get them anymore than a third-round compo pick. CCJ a third-rounder at best as well.

True, just realised Chol was a free agent due to being delisted previously a few years ago.  Talk is a probable 3rd round compensation pick. I'd imagine you're right on CCJ as well but as we saw with preuss ruckman sometimes carry a premium. Sounds like North is the destination so pick 38 seems far more appropriate than pick 20.

During last year’s trade and draft period and even on the night of the draft itself, I was gobsmacked by the audacity of some of the trading. There are lots of things that can happen that we have little or no chance of predicting at this point in time.

This is so very true and isn’t it great that we, as Demon fans, still have a week or so to concentrate on more important things before we turn our full focus and attention to things like management of our list for the future?

I agree the Gold Coast could be the way but Id target the WB first round pick. They need points for Darcy and it may be an easier sell to package up a few 2 & 3rd rounder to get the dogs 1st and give the dogs extra points.

I'm so glad Geelong traded up to take Holmes ahead of us, very happy with Bowey and Laurie (though get to see Laurie play). Holmes looks quick but not necessarily a good footballer.

Outgoing Fremantle midfielder Adam Cerra says he is yet to nominate a club of choice with trade talks set to officially open in under two weeks.

Cerra requested a trade back to his home State at the end of the regular season, with Carlton and grand finalists Melbourne both pitching hard to sign the first-round draftee.

The 21-year-old said there was plenty of time to declare who he wanted to suit up for next year after playing 76 games since being selected by the Dockers with pick five in the 2017 draft.

“I’m sure that will come out in its due course,” Cerra told 10News.

“It was obviously a tough decision. Firstly a life decision for me.

“I have obviously loved my time, but I am looking forward now. Still, lots to happen, so it’s out of my control.”

Worked out how dees make the trade for cerra. Trade picks 33, 42 and 54 to dogs (1200 points) for pick 17 (will become 19 - worth about 1000 points) dogs want points.

Trade dogs pick and dees future to Freo for cerra. Those two picks worth more than pick 6.

Dees recently extended tmac for 23 and 24. I think because he has a big contract in 22, so they’ll spread it over three years. Cabt see t Mac playing good footy beyond this year which makes it odd as to why they extended his contract for two more years after 2022.

Must be to do with clearing room for cerra.

If they do all of this for one bloke he better be very good.

Adam Cerra (Fremantle)

“Richmond is as far out of the race as any other team. You can’t say 100 per cent because there can always be a late change.”

“But my understanding with Cerra is that Carlton is still the club and that’s because Melbourne can’t get (the trade) done.

“I can’t imagine a situation where Robbie D’Orazio and Paul Connors, his manager, allow him to nominate a club that he can’t get to. He will nominate a club that he can get to and at the moment that is Carlton, even though Melbourne has had a serious crack. There’s no draft pick they can offer and there’s not going to be any players they’re going to give up either.”

That is the assumption of Ralph.

If Cerra nominates us we will get the deal done.

This was from Tom Morris?

I think the media are spitballing until Cerra comes out and nominates.

I must admit I trust the club whole heartedly but this is going to be a tough one to get done. Carlton have to be the logical option for Cerra.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
