Hunt won't be involved in any trade

I wouldn’t say that with such a definitive answer.

The back line has been fine without him. Joel Smith has speed and other attributes Hunt does not. Bowey has buckets more footy nous and skills and will likely play a GF in his 7th game.

I like Hunt but wouldn’t be against the trade value he offers to be packaged up in an attempt to bring in a silky player like Cerra.

Too soon for trade talk.  We’ve got a Grand Final first.

I guess you don’t have to revisit this thread again until after the 26th of this month.

Luke Ball is the last player i remember who took the nuclear option, walking out on St Kilda and getting to Collingwood via the draft. They used a second rounder too i think. Not sure why another club didn't try to pick him up but i guess they knew he wanted to get to the pies so no point selecting a player that doesn't want to be at your club. Doesn't happen too often though

I was always a bit [censored] off with Melbourne for not taking him. He made a claim that he would refuse to play for anyone else other than Collingwood which I thought was super arrogant, I wanted us to call his bluff.

It's never too soon for trade talk. And besides, trade talk helps pass the time from now until the 25th

I believe it was Sam Edmund not McClure.

And he didn't say potential move to Freo, he floated it as a question:

“When it comes to Adam Cerra, (he) hasn’t nominated his club of choice yet because Melbourne have really come hard for him,” Edmund said on SEN.

“They’ve made their pitch, it was a pitch that really impressed Adam Cerra.

“Carlton are in the mix and the logical choice here but the Dees not having a pick until the second round… it’s going to take a player to make any trade possible here. Picks obviously aren’t going to get it done. Is it Angus Brayshaw?”

Gus is settled in Victoria. He has a long term girlfriend and he loves the club and is part of the leadership group.
Also he is not allowed to leave or retire until he gets Eddy Langdon on the podcast.

An Angus Brayshaw retirement announcement may occur before the GF then, which would be less than ideal.

That's not what he said though, it's not a quote, that's just the newspaper editorializing on it.

Mate, come on, @Lord Nev gave you the quote.

The article is just poorly written. Which is not exactly uncommon for AFL media.

Once a player nominates a club though Dazzle it is fait acompli that it gets done, always, whatever it takes. When is the last time a player nominated a club and it didnt get done. Cant a player just say to other clubs Im only going to x,y,z and thats it? Might be bending Freo over but thats business!

Mitch Clark nominated Freo. Plus the other examples already given means it’s not always, at all.

I didn’t say the article was well written nor am I advocating either way what will happen, I simply highlighted it was there

Take it or leave it, I’m unfussed either way

Gotta give Sam credit, at least he is trying to be creative rather than dismissing it out of hand like other journos.

I’m pretty sure Sam and Gerard were just speculating based on a text that came through from a listener. Don’t know if Sam was putting that forward himself.

Given what we are building culture wise, and Gus’s role in the leadership group and probably the player who sacrifices his own game to play a role more than anyone else in the team, I wouldn’t trade him for dusty let alone a kid who bails out on his club cause it’s a bit hard being away from mummy.

I know that sounds harsh, but seriously how many of us moved interstate or overseas for years and years for jobs that paid a hell of lot less than his does.

I don't think Cerra is a must have need.  He is a little bit of cream on top that would be a bonus but not essential.  We will still look at adding or developing outside mids to complement what we already have.

We don't really need him, he would be icing on the cake in the same way that Maynard would be icing on the cake.

We may need a key forward though.

I wonder if there's any risk Rivers might want to return to Perth. Freo used pick 7 in his draft on Hayden Young and arguably Rivers has been better than Young or certainly at least as good. He's also 2 years younger than Cerra and has already proven he's going to be an outstanding player. But how much of an upgrade is Cerra over Rivers?  It would want to be a lot to give him up unless there's some risk he might want to go back to Perth anyway.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
