Just wondering- could we already have the rising star, the Brownlow, the minor prem in the bag? With the Norm Smith and flag to come?! Could be an epic year

Surely Sat night Dees v Lions Adelaide Oval full week recovery?

Nah,

Just a side-note.  They were talking last week about the record for the most intercept marks in a season.  I'm pretty sure Jake Lever has just smashed it with another seven today.  That gives him a season average of over 4 per game.

I was thinking the same thing clean sweep.

Yeah the umpiring again was pretty darn appalling. I thought that last 1 minute was another Adelaide moment all over again. They simply had to pay that 50 though it was clear as day. Otherwise  there would have been a different reason for protests in the Melbourne CBD tomorrow.

Stevic was atrocious all game.  The other two were fine for the most part.

Well [censored] I missed the game.

Just seen the scores now. Guess I'm staying up to 3am watching the replay.

I'll score some brownie points with the missus and put my hand up for the night shift with our baby

Go Dees!

Just watched the last 2 minutes on the AFL site. It’s just the most poetic moment when Max kicks that goal. It was meant to be.

Sport has lifted me higher than I ever thought possible on a day like today. I feel so grateful for the footy club.

Finally finished watching it, bloody hell what a game, looked gone for all money, but we didn't stop and we overran them.  Thank god for Burgo! and his fitness program.

Now the Lions, betting Adelaide oval..

No offence, but can they not do that 2nd qtr to me?

I get poetry but I also get major heart impacts.

Btw, Lever's second half was 🔥. Incredible leadership.

I'll have to watch the replay to see if Geelong just put the cue in the rack ready for next week, or whether they just ran out of legs, or whether our pressure and contest work simply overawed them. Maybe a bit of all of those things, because we only got the game on our terms in the second half, arguably half way through the 3rd, and despite leading early in the match, it wasn't quite on our terms.

We got our defensive mechanism working later in the game, which translated into generating scores and repeat entries from back to front or simply from centre clearance forward.

I'm.still staggered though that we came from a 44 point deficit late in the 3rd, truly a remarkable win.

That win will be chiselled into Melbourne FC folklore.

They ran out of gas.  There's a reason Scott keeps wanting shorter games.  He has the oldest list by a fair whack.  They can't match the fitter sides for four quarters.

Fantastic win by a fast becoming fantastic team with some very ubiquitous players popping up to play telling roles at crucial stages.

Give the Media their due , they seemed to be able to relagate that dour record breaking win to underwhelm status by last games of several fine players.

Unbelievable, thank you MFC, what a game. The emotions I and my family feel for this club and even moreso through Covid lockdown you have given us so much.

Monkey off the back, to win the minor premiership in Geelong where the demolition occurred and for our caption to win the game after the siren it was the best script.

Job half done, let's bring the same intensity and string 3 games together like that.

Well done MFC. I love our club!

We'll, not quite like that, perhaps...

True.. they played well nonetheless, we may face them again this year. I thought Hawkins held them up well all night. Also thought that they played predictably up the ground and didn’t have the leg-speed to take chances. Suspect they’ll go through the middle more often during the finals, hoping that the umps lock-down on the non-15m kicks…

So proud of this team and i'm so happy for Max. Absolute clutch Captain's goal right there! Bravo!

The psychological damage that would have caused would be massive after thinking they had cracked the code on the Dees Squeeze.

They completely stopped and had nothing left to give, completely shot to pieces.

We absolutely murdered them in the 3rd and 4th quarters, absolutely no response whatsoever.

Where are your 16 minute quarters now Chris Snott?

Stick it where the sun don't shine you whinging little swine.

Redemption for Max Gawn after 2018. Minor premiers for the first time since 1964. The first time in my and all my brother’s lifetimes.

Also, while harking back to 2018, I couldn’t help but notice Fritsch emulating Hannan’s goal in the final against Geelong… almost a carbon copy!

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons have the Bye next week but then are on the road once again when they come up against the Gold Coast Suns on the Gold Coast in what could be a last ditch effort to salvage their season. Who comes in and who comes out?
