Dogs need at least 2015 points for a potential bid for Darcy at Pick 2. They currently have 1025 (990 short) which are all attached to Pick 17. Their next pick isn't until 70 odd, outside the points scale.

The only way they're trading Pick 17 is if it's for multiple picks in this year's draft to give them more points. Our future 1st gives them nothing.

If we want to trade into this year's first round by using our future 1st Round Pick, Essendon or St Kilda are probably better bets as they might be looking to stock up on picks for a potential Ben King trade.

I wonder if the Ben King race is one we may join... if we can stock pile some future picks

Reckon we should flick our 2022 first rounder to the Dogs for pick 17. they don't want to use that pick, and we obviously want picks this year for either Andrew or Cerra.

Dogs need a heap of points in 2021 draft, at a guess they will need about 1600 points to cover for Darcy, they only have pick 17 with any points value, but still need 600 odd points to cover the bid or go into point deficit in 2022.

Don't be surprised if Tim English heads back to WA, Freo's pick 27 or WCE pick 29 with some later picks might be enough.  I can see him at Freo playing as Forward second ruck to Sean Darcy, our WCE get him in to develop behind Nic Nat

interesting that his partner has just moved from qld to wa - she's a netball player

Can't see the dogs looking to deal with us in any way that could improve our hand - there will be plenty of others they can work with.

Agree. If we want to improve our draft hand this year I think we need to talk to the clubs that are in a better position than us to obtain the Dogs first round pick.
Perhaps package up picks 42,54 and next years second rounder for a pick in the early 20s.

Absolutely. Absolutely desparate, as well. Hence, the modus operandi.

I'm not sure either side will want him, English is 24 and isn't trusted in the ruck by Bevo.  I know big men take more time, but I'm not sure he gets much better than what he is at the moment.  Whilst the Eagles need to replace Nic Nat they have two developing rucks and Vardy has retired, but I can't see them being overly enamoured with English's bruise free approach to rucking.  Freo have Darcy, Meek and Lobbe.  Lobbe is on a stack of money so to recruit English to play the same role doesn't make sense unless they can unload Lobbe and his contract, but it seems like they'd be trading one NQR second ruck for another NQR second ruck.

I've heard a strong whisper that Ladhams is going to the Dogs (which is obviously why people like Lloyd are saying that they need to get a 24-26 y.o. second ruck and make them a main ruck).  It will be interesting to see what the Dogs give up in order to get him and the picks necessary to avoid going into draft deficit for 2022.

Interesting, given young Darcy is meant to be a ruck/forward.

Freo and WCE would definitely be interested in English. Clubs always back there ability to improve players.

There's talk Lachie Weller is unhappy and will seek an opportunity elsewhere. I think he would be a perfect acquisition for us based on his age and style of player. He's an outside mid who plays predominantly on the wing who can also play high half forward and kick a goal. He has the outside run and pace that perfectly complements the plethora of inside bulls we have. He was also drafted to Freo with lingers and they are very close friends from their time there. I think if we could get him fairly cheap and don't have to pay him a ridiculous amount, he would be a very good addition.

He is best friends with Ed Langdon and they even lived together at Freo.

Getting Weller would just be the perfect compliment to our midfield brigade.

Am I the only one who laughed at the John Elliot "Carlton legend, guided them to premierships" bulltish eulogies when he passed recently? He was a cheat and ruined the club, long may it continue.

Darcy won't be ready for a while.  Their only two rucks are Martin who will be 35 next year and English who Bevo clearly doesn't trust in the ruck

If I was Norf I’d go for him at pick 1 and make the Doggies cash in a lot of future picks and fringe players.

The fact they can finish as they have in the past two years and get the crème of the crop is fundamentally wrong.

We get robbed of Mac Andrew and the team that caused that rule change will still get another top 5 draft player albeit via F/S just doesn’t sit well.

Wouldn't be surprised if this is worked in with the Lipinski trade given both Dogs and Filth need some players without giving away points in this year's draft.

Could be Lipinski to Collingwood

Collingwood's future 2nd Round Pick to Port

Ladhams to Bulldogs

Even that seems a bit much for Ladhams, but wouldn't be shocked if the trade looked something like that.

I think Patrick Naish might be a bit of watch this space. Hasn't been able to break into the Richmond line for the past couple of years even though he's dominated VFL level. In his 6 games this year at VFL level he averaged 28.5 disposals per game as an outside speedy wingman.

He was a highly rated under 18 prospect who was part of the highly AFL Academy squad. Outside wingman who's quick and has neat kicking skills

Wouldn't be surprised if the club are looking at him purely as a depth player as that outside player.

I was all excited to break the English rumour, I never get any normally but got some strong mail this morning on English going west, apparently being spoken about post the grand final.

Also have to agree on Weller, the kind of semi low key acquisition that would genuinely make us better. Wouldn’t cost the earth if he is bullish about coming to us

Is he going to the Eagles or Dockers?

This may bode well for Jacko as I doubt the WA sides would go after English if they thought Jackson was available....

The Weller news has started from one of those dodgy Trade news Twitter accounts

didn't gc17 pay an arm and a leg - or a pick 2, from memory - in order to get weller from freo?

can't see them letting him walk away on the cheap

Correct and I think the entire footy world was stunned by that trade.  Pick 2 for Lachie Weller...🤯

If he's on the table then you'd expect their list manager is looking for a new job.

Agreed about Patrick Naish.

He is an excellent kick too apparently.

In a draft where we won't have any top 20 picks I think he is worth having another look at.

Here is his Under 18s highlights reel before he got drafted shown below.

You don't get a premiership tattoo if you're planning on leaving.

Jacko said he is happy, his parents are said to maybe look at moving to Victoria, he just won a flag at 20 years old. Why the hell would he leave?

I know things change, but I'm now even more intrigued by the Frank Valli comment mate. 😂  I assume you just like them and we were on like Donkey Kong and then something changed. Is that the gist of it?

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
