Hopefully we are now more of a ‘destination’ and dont have to pay massive overs to land players who want to come to a top team.  We will have to clean out at least 3 from the primary list, and probably need a clearance bull type an additional wing prospect and a key forward to develop.  Lots to spill out of Collingwood again, and maybe the hawks and blues with deck chairs being kicked about.  I can also see some trades for points from a few teams with academy and FS selections.  Be interesting to see how hard we go at trade or if we just sit quietly and top up through the draft?

Would anyone else be interested in Darcy Tucker from the Dockers? Out of contract and could be looking to move back to vic. Could be an option as a left footed wingman.

Your very observant W31 !!!

Pity Darcy Tucker is a ruckman or haven't you observed. Is a good player but seems to be playing with a knee or leg injury.

You are confused with Sean Darcy 58er. Darcy at 184 cm won't be doing much ruck work!

Need outside link players. Spargs and ANB have been playing that role pretty well though. I like the Lynch suggestion, but cannot think who in our fwd line would make way. He is similar to Melksham in my view.

id be chasing Maynard - as others have said. KP forward is a draft priority as we have decent depth here. Outside is probably o another gap. Bowey/ Laurie will grow into that role in the next 2-3 years so I’m I’m inclined to give them the opp.

I was shocked how well Lynch moved on the weekend.

Just remember we did show considerable interest a few years back...

He's definitely too good to go on the AFL scrap heap.

Would think he could play the T-Mac role with ease or alternatively he could play the opposing wing to Ed.

SPECIFIC PLAYER
In the past few years we have targeted specific players for specific needs (Lever, May, Tomlinson, Langdon, Hibberd, Melksham). The Footy dept will probably identify the need for a super-quick outside mid, or another forward option. Not sure we have any other specific needs that trading will help.

Outside mid - unsure who could help our current mids when we have so much untapped talent playing at Casey

Forward - Mitch Wallis is very attractive if gettable, and if he passes a physical check. He is very difficult to match up on.

BIG NAME NEED
Players WANT to come to us now, but our salary cap must be bursting at the seams. Unless one of our top 5 players are getting less money in the back end of their contract, I can't see us affording a Tom Green, Tim Taranto etc...

WE MIGHT LOSE
Weideman - surely North will come screaming for him, cash in hand. I can't see him staying unless TMac doesn't hold up.
Possibly one of Harmes or, dare I say it, Viney. For the first time in a long time our development program is really strong so it is possible some of the young boys coming through could replace them before the 2022 year starts (Sparrow, Bedford, Laurie, Rosman etc...)

Eagles look like they are finally going to have to face the fact they need to start a rebuild. Gaff is 29, a bit outside the rebuild window but 3 years younger than Isaac Smith who we offered a 3 year deal. Gaff looks like a better proposition than Smith would have been. Worth a question I would have thought. At his age he won't demand a super high pick. AVB was on a lot of money after we fought off Sydney going hard for him a few years ago. That money and a few other departures like Jonesy and Nev might mean the salary cap is there for him. I wouldnt' think it would need to be silly money like what Carlton have been paying role players.

There was some footage on Gaff last night from On The Couch.

It was pretty damming to say at least. Little 15m chip backwards that resulted in no forward thrusts.

If anyone can get the footage that would be helpful.

Holy Moly - there were jungle drums beating about this perhaps 2 years ago... Happy to be guided by anyone else as to what he would offer, or assist with that we don't currently have.

I wonder what will happen to the Tigers now they have imploded. Dimma won't be around much longer and I can see a few players being shopped around as they look to re build

Dusty would be handy over the next 2-3 years.  the thought of being a 6 time premiership player might interest him?

Be careful not to blame the player for the game plan.  Do you really think Gaff is going against the coaches instructions?

This has been a significant part of Gaff's game for a long time. He simply has no hurt factor and as Garry Lyon said, it's also been part of his natural game for a long time.

32 disposals for only 284m gained is not good numbers for a wingman of his calibre.

The game plan itself is outdated and ordinary.

I suggest Gaff is more game plan than player but he does not interest me as cost vs value. I actually think we have good next layer positional depth except wing and good next layer attribute depth except maybe for good kickers. The depth is either players maturing at VFL level that could play a role or coverage by team make up or positional flexibility. I dont think we’ll cut many this year partly because players have not had any continuity but also because some of the players there know our system and there will be some emphasis on continuity of squad and not just 22, The room will be made up by those clearly ready to retire or not in plan. It appears we dont have many kids developing there but that is because they are that good they have lept into the best 22 ahead of some of the 4-5 year players. I would be picking a couple of best attribute kids in draft and filling roles based on need with other team players in the 22-24 age bracket. I would have a red hot go at Maynard and Duggan and would have a sniff around Lipinski, Tucker, Lemmins, I would not be against some good quality older players as low cost depth in the mould of Lynch in a similar vein to Daw and Brown.

I'd be all over GWS' Tom Green. He will explode soon and his inclusion would enable us to be less reliant on Clarry and give us more midfield depth.

Big no to Gaff - I don't think I've ever seen him lay a tackle and rarely hits the scorboard.

Good link up player but that's it.

Big yes to Tom Green but I doubt GWS would let him go.

Maynard I would be keen to go after

KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50.
