Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Sydney worry me the most. They will challenge us the most with their contested footy. They have a lot of talent across the board. Very good ruckman. Excellent mids. Buddy. The coach I rate the most in the AFL (except Clarko).
They are the one side I really don’t want to meet in finals.

They're dangerous for sure but i think scrapping the bye is huge for us. They've been on the road for a long time now, will have played 2 tough finals (reckon the game between them and GWS is 50/50) while we'll be fresh if we face them

Essendon can make the finals only having won 10 games today (if they lose).

That’s insane.

It is

What's also insane is that they are a real chance to beat the doggies

Freo losing today locks in the final 8 now.

Qualifying final 1. Demons vs Lions

Qualifying final 2. Port vs Cats

Elimination final 1. Bulldogs vs Bombers

Elimination final 2. Swans vs Giants

Time, date and venues to be released later.

For us to avoid a final @Port, we'll need the Cats to win next week

But if we win next week against the Lions the above won't matter

Of course, if the GF ends up being played in Adelaide,  Port could have the home crowd/home field (if they make it that far)

With Covid and with it, triggered lockdowns, I wouldn't be ruling out any venues for any of the finals

Geelong won't recover from that lose. absolute confidence crusher. I predict a straight sets exit

Doggies form has deserted them. I reckon they'll lose their elim final

GWS or Sydney to win through to a prelim with the Lions

No bye a huge advantage for us and Port. And Port with home advantage a great chance to make the GF. We'll win through as well

Port and Dees GF i reckon

I actually reckon Geelong will beat Port next week.

The Dogs are cooked and that's Port's most meaningful win for two months. I'm just not convinced that Port will bring it against top 4 quality in the heat of a final.

There are only two ways we can face Sydney in the finals:

  1. We win our prelim and they win their EF vs GWS and then their SF vs Port/Geelong
  2. We lose our prelim, and meet them in the Grand Final

I'm relatively relieved that we can't cop them in the SF if we lose to Brisbane.

Having said that, we'll most likely cop Essendon if we lose to Brisbane. As I said, I think the Dogs are cooked and I reckon Essendon will beat them. I can't stand the fact that Essendon are even in the finals, let alone that by finishing 8th with a record no better than 11-11, they get the luck of playing the most out-of-form top 8 side.

That’s pretty obvious isn’t it?

Of the four 2018 preliminary finalists we are the only team to be playing finals this year.

Yeah it's obvious but not a given.  Nothing is written in stone and that was my point

In my view there's not a lot between most of the teams within the 8.  Any team that brings their best can win

But I don't like it that Port can get home field/home crowds during the finals where as (apart from Brisbane once) the other teams need to travel to neutral venues as the home team

There are integrity issues but we're talking about the AFL here

There’s only one team that concerns me: Melbourne.

To me last night confirmed what we have been afraid of saying, we are the best team this season. At our best I firmly believe we beat anyone else bringing their best. The cats were blisteringly good for 10min, but our players were also way off making mistakes we simply haven’t done all year. We rectified that and then brought the game back on our terms.

So I just want us to bring what we have brought all year to the finals, we do that…well…I don’t think I can bring myself to say the words.

Geelong's problem is as soon as finals start, they usually capitulate. I don't much rate Port, but reckon they'll get it down in front of their home crowd.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
