Is it just me that can't stand Weightman? Looks like such a little smartarse, would love to seem him cleaned up (fairly)

And how good was Kozzies tackle on Richards that put him out of the game? Reminded me of the one from his draft year, head down spear tackle

I can't stand most of their guys. Weightman is particularly punchable though. They're building a forwardline of puncuable heads to compliment their midfield of muppets.

I'd absolutely love to have Weightman on our list.

A star in the making.

I must have watched a completely different game because I thought Viney was simply poor once again tonight..

Bit of a tale of two halves for him tonight IMO.

Not sure what you mean by dominate, but the way I saw it, we had a few minutes (at best) of possession and attack dominance each quarter, which they quickly snuffed out, then added to. The Dogs never looked like they’d lost control or would succumb, not even when we got within 4 points. The truth is they’re beginning to peak beautifully, where we’ve retreated to bottom 6 form. Funny old game, and we all so hoped it wouldn’t be the case, but the ‘April-May premiers’ jibe is sadly proving true for this team.

Peak beautifully? Sydney murdered them a fortnight ago and the Suns gave them a run for their money last week. But each to their own.

'Unified team'

Harmes goes into bat for Gus after the Hannan goal (no one else does), then gets ragdolled to the ground and no one comes into bat for him... Not a big deal, and just the huff and puff, but just little things like that are noticeable sometimes.

Also noticed no one really got around Viney when he kicked that goal.

Real weird vibes.

I pointed out Pickett did 2 great smothers & no one went up to him to say well done. Where is the team moral?

For a so called top side we are awful to watch.

The Swans ‘murdered’ them by 19 points, and the Suns tried hard, but never looked like running over them. The Dogs are on top of the ladder, with rising form where we’ve won 2 of our last 6, having failed to defeat 3 deadset struggling teams and in that time have become the lowest scoring team in the eight. Clearly our form is retreating, and our season hopes are in trouble. As a tale of two teams, they’re pretty compelling facts.

Same number of scoring shots, and that doesn't count the out on the full shots.  We had our chances and we matched in most areas for most of the game, dominated on other patches.  But we need to convert consistently.  Simply there kicked better than us.

Murdered is a bit of a stretch..

While the Suns may have gave them a run for their money at least they still won. We on the other hand failed to put away Box Hill last week after being 26 points up.

They win games they should win. Turn up, get the job done and move onto the week after.

They also have Dunkley, Treloar, Wood, Martin and now Keath to return.

They're tracking beautifully.

Not sure this comment wil please but

i think we lose it in the ruck, and we have the “best”... too predictable or taps it to unfavourable positions

puts up with 2 much attention without complaints, the umpires think he does not mind !

we need to work harder and smarter

training needs to be almost a rest one night a week till the finals are on, we need to refresh

Where to start..

Dogs had Treloar, Dunkley, Keith, Martin and Wood missing tonight. We had no one. 100% they are the better side. Say what you want, they've been consistent this year and have won the games we've lost. They deserve the flag this year.

Another game where we are exposed carryig passengers. For goodness bloody give Luke Jackson a spell! Once again had zero influence alongside the likes of Rivers, Hibberd, Langdon,  ANB who have all been down on form the past couple of weeks. We've got the likes of Melksham, Lockhart, Daw, Weideman and Bowey all set and ready to fill a role.

Harmes got taught a lesson by Libba. When his tagging goes to [censored], Harmes really adds nothing tonight. It was honest a disappointment game. Also why is he a try hard Dusty?

ANB was back to his usual brain fades/spudding it up. Thought I saw a much Improved player at the start of year but nope,  same [censored] different week. Can we recruit another Kozzie next year that can keep him out?

The difference between Bont and Petracca is light years apart. If I see another cringe comparison by supporters on here and also the media then I'll spew up. Don't get me wrong, Petracca is good. But he is so sloppy and half the time think he's gotta be the [censored] match winner by always wanting to shoot for goal. The way that Bont just cruises around, but yet keeps his game simple is seriously a marvellous to watch.

Brayshaw and Salem are both incredibly soft. I saw one piece of play where Brayshaw completely squibbed a contest. It was not s good look at all and I think it stifled him because he was ****house for the rest of the game. Salem is too scared to either pick up the ball or provide a 50-50 contest. I'm honestly losing patience with Brayshaw.

Defence was a bit sloppy tonight. Lever got exposed for not being a good one on one defender.

Gawn 57 hitouts to English 14 and yet we lost the clearance count.. how on [censored] earth does this happen?? The ruck to midfield connection is an absolute mess. Throw that next two our goal kicking issues and there is some genuine concerns heading into finals

Not sure what to make of us now. Have voiced concerns for over a month now, and we are 18 rounds in yet we still don't know what our best forward structure is.

Hate to be negative,  but we've seen all this before and unfortunately this year isn't much different to 2018.

We are building a team to play finals for hopefully the next 10years. A whole host of 19yr olds may not win us a flag this year (although I believe we are right in the mix )however all we lacked tonight was a little polish & finishing. Don’t care who the Bulldogs or any other team had missing …you play who you play.  Appalling umpiring but again we can only blame ourselves for losing. I believe Brown had one of his better games even though conditions didn’t suit ..I’ll change my opinion if he doesn’t incrementally improve against the Suns. I’m actually happy we will slip from top 2..remove supporter expectations & let them roll on through the next few games. We’re ok…

Not sure we can go another game where non-performance is rewarded?

Harmes, Brayshaw and Hibberd were pathetic.

Spargo and Jackson have been down for a month.

Langdon, Salem and Mcdonald have regressed big time.

Nearly 40 percent of the team have hit the wall. We've won one game in a month. We're done.

If there’s anything positive from tonight it’s the fact that we won’t have the weight of expectations now that we have dropped off top spot. I don’t think we are truly ready for that. I’m happy to let the Doggies or the Cats carry that burden for now whilst we regroup and replan for the finals.

I think Brown is starting to find some connection and partnership with TMac and the mozzie squad.

I was thinking exactly the same thing. Just has a smug face you’d love to slap with a cold fish. The fact that he took an almighty specky and probably a strong contender for mark of the year made it worse.

And for all that we were within 4 points with less than 10 minutes to go. A 2 goal game where they kocked one out of their [censored] (English) gifted another that wasn't there (Hannan) and a we let a few through our fingers (Fritsch on the goal line, Brown x2, Viney and Kozzie early, Kozzie missing Tmac on his own, the ball not sitting up for TMac with fritsch free running into goal etc etc)

Yeah we lost, not saying we deserved to win but the over reaction on here is ridiculous. It was a 50/50 game where they took a couple of chances and we missed a couple of ours. Not like the game earlier in the year where we completely outplayed them.

Looking forward to playing them in September, I'm confident we'll have their number.

We had chances and didn't take them.

Most of our young players are having no impact and have needed a rest since Collingwood.

I'm having a hard time not calling them mentally weak, like they used to be. It certainly feels like they are drinking bathwater. I love the podcast, but there was no introspection or acknowledgement of how bad that result was last week. They spoke about the other draws they'd played in and moved on. There's a lot of references to being first on the ladder (which we aren't anymore) when our players speak to the media, and they don't seem unduly bothered by their poor run of form. Even Hunt's interview after the game on the MFC social media channels. Is he for real? Taking the positives?

The Bulldogs did to us what we were doing to other teams at the start of the year. Absorb pressure, and get a quick run on whenever the opposition manages to kick a goal or two. And we looked incapable of stopping them, the much vaunted defence getting just a touch worse every week to the point that we don't blink anymore when we concede 12+ goals.

I was about to finish this post when I saw Goodwin's commentary about our scoring: "not worried at all".

Get real Simon. I might have thought you were deflecting but clearly there is no real work being done on this. Pickett still has that ridiculous run up that sees the ball fade every time, Brown is going at 1 in 3, Petracca was spraying them everywhere.

Like I said. Bathwater being drunk. They just seem pleased that we're going this well, with essentially no introspection about how top four now probably requires 3 wins in 4.

Dogs very very good, will go close this year, especially once you add Dunkley and Treloar to that mix.

We're missing at least one more decent mid/small forward. Melksham in his prime would have been useful tonight. Still don't think this is going to be our year, still too inexperienced for mine. But building nicely for the next few years.

With the current form line, I think we are a 5-8 team. Other teams have timed their run and have key players in form at the right time.

I love Oliver and his work around the contest but his 35 touches a week isn’t winning us games. He needs a partner in crime that will turn up every week and help.

Trac had plenty of the ball but he is so far off being influential, would rather we target a full time mid and rotate him in from HFF. We lack depth and quality in the middle, still. As a direct comparison, Bont never looks like he gets out of a stride and does the simple things very well. He’s the best in the game right now, can do it all.

Longer term, we are looking ok but there’s still a very heavy reliance on 4-5 players and we have been incredibly fortunate that they have played almost all games.

I really did feel the umps had a bee in their bonnet last night. Right from the very start. By half time in the most atrocious conditions the frees were 14 to four against. When the rain is pelting down that diffferential is much more amplified and we we were lucky to be only twenty odd down.

The second half i guess the maggots realised the issue and gave us seven frees but just to be sure the dogs still got another ten.

25 frees to 11.

On a dry night that would impact most games. On this shockjng wet event i beliveve it would seal any teams chances.

Yes we missed too many shots but thats tge way we are.

On a consistent and level with professionals adjudicating without obvious prejudice we would have at least been in it all the way.

Watch tge replay and the frees paid and not paid ..where and when and it will show the umps were for whatever reason determined to see dogs get up.

I wish the club would at least mention it.

Dogs are the umps darlings without fail.

Langers has picked the wrong end of the season to go on holiday.

Jackson has been mia for weeks. We are a fwd down.

This is what I have saying for eons !

Its not last jights effort that may have cost top four and a flag its the silly lazy efforts against the lesser teams that will seal our fate.

It happened last year when we were an easy chance for the eight but got beaten two weaks in a row about this time by lesser clubs.

I really would like to understand how and why we lost to lower clubs. Because i think until we understand and resolve this we will never truly be a killer club

Theres still a glimmer of hope but its fading fast.

An insterstate final now seems likely and if we had beaten hawks it could have been avoided.

I guess at the end of the day goody is right....there really are a lot of learnings to be learnt.

And while appreciate our start and efforts to the season....its seems we have thrown a lot of that work away and i guess that is the really frustrating part.

Heres a team with a clear window...no injuries but for whatever reason just didnt turn up on games we should have won easily.

That has to do with their mindset and like last years equivalent....it seems to be a very difficult thing to change.

Petracca needs some serious work on his disposal, which has been atrocious for most of the season.

What happened to the bull last year that would use his strength to break tackles and give himself the time to compose before kicking? This year he is rushing it straight onto the boot and the results are not good.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
