Very damaging game.

Jordon or Brayshaw replaces him in the middle, with one-third of the possessions, but playing their role and we win easy.

Jack needs to be investigated for match-fixing due to consistently passing to Hawks players

Everybody does know the Oli and Picket are the same person right?

I wouldn't trade Viney but he has to lift. His last month has been unacceptable. If he doesn't get out of this slump soon there has to be possibly dropped when we have Harmes and Sparrow waiting in the wings.

I wouldn't trade him but he's the worst kick in our side by quite a way and when Vanders isn't in the team, he's our worst decision maker.

I know people love his pressure, but his cons outweigh his pros far too often IMO.

He also has no trusting his team mates to win the contested ball, so ends up undermining our defensive structures. I was saying the same thing last year. Our midfield may not have been dominating clearances without Viney, but we were an excellent post clearance team. The best in the league. Now Jack charges at people and we often get done on the outside.

I have also been accused of being you before Werridee.

Seems everyone with the same opinion = the same person.

It gets old.

He gets very little to no momentum with his kicks. They pretty much always drop short. I'm not sure how fixable his kicking is.

Its not. It would have been fixed by now if it was? He's been kicking a football for 20+ years and reality is its not suddenly going to get better over one preseason or by coaching.

Cant trade him now, but if the club doesnt work out how to use him better (eg up forward), we could just copy and paste this thread for the next  4 years. (Just like the last 4.)

Just get him out of the middle. How much evidence do they need that he doesn't work with our other current key midfielders?

Needs to stop trying to be a star, and work within his limitations, and realise he is a defensive scrapper and not much else. Either he or Harmes tags a midfielder, or plays as a defensive/negating half-fwd flank (when there is an appropriate match-up) - cant carry Viney, Harmes and Vanders in the same team.

Occasionally I come back to this site to have   a look at what’s being written, used to be on it everyday, left because of the absolute bollocks that is said. Think it’s gotten worse, we’re on top of ladder, we’ve easily accounted for all other top sides, ok we have an issue getting ‘up’ against bottom sides, tonight hawthorn played their best game prob for the year, we played prob our second worst game, we drew, we’re on top of the ladder FFS, wake up!!

lol. I said this during the game too. When he has the ball, at best you're hoping for a 50/50 because sure as hell it isn't going to a dees player.

Before we trade him can we just try him as a defensive forward for a bit?

I personally think he is too slow to be a defensive forward. He also has a bad turning circle so I think he would get caught a lot himself. I actually think he is carrying too much weight. I'd like to see him 5kg less which is noticeable for someone his size but he needs to cover the field better.

And I agree with previous posters, he is killing us with turnovers at the moment. And has for some time and I have 0 faith in match committee that they will ever drop him.

I can give assurance that I only post under one avater P.F

You know what. He's come back from a horrible injury and got better every week. That's great. Sure, he looks a yard off and that's impacting his disposal but for your clubs soul you stick fat with guys like Viney. Come finals he will surprise a few

The issue isn't Jack, it is our entire midfield group, none of them are good kicks.  We need some class in there

Viney was a fridge last night and that’s saying something for someone with over 30 disposals.

I want the 2018 Semi Final vintage Viney please.

Not sure if his teammates would agree with this.

Yes his kicking isn’t great and he sometimes tries to do too much, but [censored] me, he at least chases and tackles the opponents. If others in the team did that as hard and with intent then we don’t [censored] lose to [censored] hawthorn

Happy to stick fat with him, if he is used in a different role.

Not in the middle. Instead, 10-15 possessions a game, mostly handballs - 5-10 tackles, and high pressure acts.

to have someone playing 90% on the ball, that could reliably turn the ball over via long dumb kicks, was such a large asset for the Hawks. Not to mention the turnovers via being tackled when he didn’t play within his limitations.

last night went straight back to 2019/2020, when Petracca, Oliver and Viney all played for themselves and looked like they were competing with each other to be best player - Viney is not smart enough, and constantly got in the way (and then left a free hawk in a dangerous spot)

I know his contracted but needs to be considered. He adds nothing to us and clubs like Port are crying out for inside mids, we could make out like bandits.

His disposal is a real problem but he does bring plenty of grunt. 14 contested possies and 11 tackles is still contributing

He just needs to dish the ball off to easy first options. Handballs (even then he's liable to miss) and no kicking

And i don't think it's fair to pick out one player and start a thread about trading them after a bad performance. Others have had poor games and patches of form so why pick on Jack?

Don’t agree with the trade thread but also those that think he had positive impact last night need to lift their head from the stats and watch the game. On numerous occasion he got in the way of others, tried to do too much and fluffed various kicks in the forward half. I am pretty certain he was standing next to Mitchell for most of last night as Tom worked his way to 39 possessions. Our midfield is lesser with him in it at the moment.

Too true. But its pretty evident the side is a bit stale. Form other than the Port game has been iffy at best for weeks. Needs some refreshment. Could start by giving Bowey a run. Best placed on a wing. But I guess they won't shift the leaden-footed Brayshaw.

This is a fair call I reckon

I am 50 50 on Viney, he looks to be ostracised from the main group. Does he stay because the club is like family to him? Every family has that one member who doesn't fit in or prefers to keep their distance.

He's 27, he could mean depth for the finals and into next season, we have been very fortunate with our lack of injuries. Some people here are forgetting this.

Possession numbers are one thing. It’s what he does with them that matters. All year he’s wasted his possessions.
We won’t trade him, but he has to learn to play within his very obvious limitations.
I don’t like that since he’s come back in we’ve swapped Gus and JJ around. It’s made us worse.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
