Sorry if I have stolen someone else's thunder with this thread but there is a certain amount of schadenfreude reading through the Hawthorn Big Footy site.

Fair to say not much optimism there...

  • We'll play long and slow along the boundary as we have all season and did against them earlier in the year so as to turn it into a defensive, contested game.
  • We try and play through the middle and kick to forwards who lead is, in simple ways, how you win, but at the same time, if Melbourne aren't asleep like Sydney were against us, the risk is they bury us on turnovers from our lack of skills and their superior defensive unit.
  • I assume we play the 22 fit players left on our list. Maybe let them choose where they want to play.
  • No CJ, Day, Sicily, Scrimshaw, Impey, Wingard, Gunston. Coach who has been told he is not the man to take us forward. Cold, wet weather forecast. Against the best team in the comp. Twilight timeslot. In a pandemic. Well done if you're going this week.
  • Jaeger and Kosi must be in doubt. Both looked lame.
  • I simply can't see how we'll win this game, we'll get smashed in the ruck, smashed in the midfield, don't have anyone to seriously trouble May and Lever even when we do get it forward and lots of our rebounding intercept defenders are injured. Praying we only lose by 8 goals as opposed to something really disastrous.
  • If Sean Darcy can get 25 possessions and 9 marks imagine what Gawn will do!
  • It's going to be an absolute blood bath
  • A COVID outbreak and resultant postponement of the match is probably the best we can hope for with this one
  • The only question in this one is, will be lose by more goals than I drink beers for the day ?
  • Our mids should be aiming for Gawn with every kick. We might only hit him once or twice that way
  • This is the least I am looking forward to a game all year. I just hope that Melbourne go through the motions for a 50 point win as opposed to actually giving a fu**... that would be a scary scenario.
  • Unfortunately though if it’s in MItchell's hands it will be in opposition hands pretty soon thereafter. 1 score involvement from 39 touches is diabolically low impact.

My mother in law is a mad Hawks fan. She told me last night she really hopes we don't stuff up and lose because she can't wait for us to beat Geelong in finals.

Hawks fans are done with 2021.

On SEN this morning, Kennett got on the blower this morning to wish the MFC luck for this year and hope we win the flag.

I suddenly don't mind Hawthorn supporters.

Kennett must want to be our President again now that he’s got the chop from the Hawks

Offt that brings back memories. i've got a feeling it'll be a tight game for at least 3 quarters.

We need to smash them and send them spiralling towards the wooden spoon.

Do we really need to be reminded how the MFC can perform in games like this ? I really hope we see 100% commitment and real intent from the first bounce to final siren

Not only is it critical to win the game but % may be vital come finals

Love the comment about their mids aiming for Gawn as this will result in less marks by Max

The tousling of Aaron Davey's hair in 2007 by Cambell Brown after a goal was kicked sits with me and I am still waiting for satisfaction in that matter

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the

We'll break down the Match SIM against North Melbourne and wrap up the preseason with insights into training and our latest recruits. I apologize for skipping our annual season review show at the end of last season. After a disapponting season filled with off-field antics and a heated trade week, I needed a break. Thankfully, the offseason has recharged me, and I’m back—ready t
