As a few of us suspected, the team had been doing a block of heavy training and our game style had changed to one to reflect lower energy levels. Now the tapering has begun, the energy is back and normal transmission has resumed.

I predicted a 3 goal win yesterday morning. Was nice to have underestimated the margin.

Opposition teams just cannot score multiple goals in a row against us. Port changed their approach in the third to use the corridor more but we shut that down pretty quick.

So why wasnt he played last week???  If is so obvious!

I think selection committe dropped the ball to be honest.

How did it work out against gws again?

There backline slaughtered us.

Excellent win.  Doctor Oilslick must be devastated.

Among the "Go Dees" type texts from mates after the game, there was one from a number I didn't even recognise.  I think people are starting to take us seriously this year.

What is Channel 7's  obsession with continually cutting to the coaches box to show a  lingering close-up of Ken Hinkley's expressionless visage?  They did the same with Ben Rutten a couple of weeks ago.

The srnse of entitlement of free kicks by port fans means it hapoens all too often or they just dont understand the rules or they are rubbish snd need help.

I say sll three come into play.

Pressure act stat is up on the AFL website.

Viney our best again with 33 (Drew the overall leader on 34).

Harmes 26, Oliver 25, Petracca 21 and Pickett 20 our top 5.

That was ports bihgest loss at their home ground this year.

Love it.

Cant wait to watch the replay.

So sweet a win .

...out of or dlump.

...back to top four.

..fwd line much improved.

...Quick start

.....portt fans with their incessant booing go home sobbing.

What a mob of losers.

No  im not bitter?

A very good win, with several playing below their best, like Langdon, Spargo, Harmes and Fritta for example.

Once again, where are the DL experts who wanted Tom Mac, JJ, Hunt, Spargo and Petty gone last year. Then again the FD wanted Tom Mac gone too. What a wonderful rejuvenation of his footy career we have seen. Credit to you Tom, you are now one of the first picked.

you're giving Port fans too much credit, i doubt they're even capable of thinking.

Thought we’d get touched up and happily proven wrong.

Statement making win - again when we play our best we are very hard to beat.

Just hope we bring that same level of intensity for the Hawks game.

Anyone else confused by the holding the man decisions when the player is tackled and drops the ball? Infuriated me beyond no end last night.

Two where Motlop was the ball dropper, or thrower, and they goaled from both. Hard to bear.

[censored] I'm enjoying watching the big T Mac play this year.

Clunking big marks all over the ground, kicking clutch goals at big moments in games left right and centre.

Probably one of the most underrated and little noticed aspects of his game externally in the media is the drive he provides from wing-half forward and the connection then achieved with our other deep forwards.  Just love the way he takes a big strong mark, then gets back quickly, brushes off the man on the mark and then drives it deep into an open forward line with a pretty much perfectly measured kick to the advantage of our other forwards pushing back.  Fritta, Kossie and Trac must love it when they see him mark in these situations.  He must have an insane metres gained and goal assists for a big bloke.

How T Mac ever became so bemoaned riles me.  I hardly think you could ever fault the desire, workrate, attitude and team ethos of big Tommy.  Love the competitiveness, aggressiveness and passion he playes with.  Getting in the face of Travis Boak after kicking that goal last night was gold.  Would pay people to remember how he looked gone for all money over the last couple of seasons when they write off the likes of Weid and BBB.

Just quoting myself (check the date), cause I need a pat on the back ;)

Really hoping Blues and Saints can pull off big upsets this weekend.

The 'drama' of apathy...

For all of the port fans singing before the game, we actually did tear them apart.

I'm loving watching my son (15) reacting to the games. Last night he said "I love them all" which was a far cry from his primary school days.

Totes agree with the sentiment. But they're no longer statement wins anymore are they? They're de rigueur wins ?

I find it really interesting Goody coaching from the Bench, it really says a lot about how he coaches, but also how much he trusts the coaches in the box. i suppose it's handy having the likes of Adem Yze and Alan Richardson up there

Niiiiice Gary

Still buzzing, that was absolutely the statement we needed to make. Doesn't matter so much if we drop a few games to the lower teams, because we clean up against the ones that count.

Even better that it could have been a ten goal belting, really.

Very true, and we won't be seeing any of the lower teams in the finals anyway! haha

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
