Clarko more likely.

Harvey to be the caretaker coach for the entire 2022 season? I read today that Clarkson will coach Hawthorn next season before handing the reigns over to Mitchell.

I reckon the AFL will give Dew another season then pay whatever it takes to get Clarko up there for 2023 if next season is another failure.

Let’s wait and see how the remainder of the season pans out to determine how valuable Williams is to this group, and specifically whether he can guide us through this flat patch.

It will be hard to move Dew....

I like the idea of Pies and Clarko. Misery deserves company

For what it is worth, wasn’t MarkWilliams quoted as saying he is not interested in a head coaching gig again?

Correct but there wasn’t any coaching vacancies when he said that.

And there you have it. As I said weeks ago, the big signing that could save a Board and keep Mitchell at Hawks. Could the quinella be Ross Lyon to Blues.

I'll be shocked if Williams gets it.

I'd also be shocked if Williams turned down a head coaching gig, regardless of any public proclamations to the contrary.

Choco will be 63 in August.

He won’t get a senior gig again. Yze could and that is a worry, as we have already lost Burgess.

But we will still have Goody Mr. Leg!

He won't get a senior gig at the Pies or anywhere. Everyone knows he's mad as a cut snake and who would trust their precious senior squad with someone like that. (I can recall when Malcolm Blight was considered too crazy to be a senior coach any more.) He's found his niche at this stage of his life as a development coach and if he goes anywhere, it will be as that.

Rumors around are Yze will get the job with Williams as the assistant. So at the end of the year could be Yze, Williams and Burgess gone.

That sounds like the peak MFCSS scenario.

Don’t worry we will still have Goodwin.

2018 all over again.

Williams: "I don't want to be a head coach anymore and I'm enjoying my time at Melbourne"

…in more ways than one. ?

Yze could only leave if it was a senior coaching position - that is usually the gentleman's agreement with club and coaching staff.  WHy would Choco go to the same position at another club?

A left field scenario could be to reunite Clarko, Yze and Williams and let Goodwin goto the Pies in exchange for Maynard. *sarcasm*

I don't know whether to laugh or cry at this stage.

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturday’s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFL’s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
