Yeah I agree, good start, but you cannot ignore those performances. Reeks of the West Coast final loss in 2018 where we threw the towel in before the game

They looked very flat, Tom Mac couldnth take a mark, Trac & Oilver poor kicking, overall  all looked off, Weiderman a real concern though delivery was poor going fwd.

Reality is we are still a way off where we need to get to. Our intensity this season in general is leaps and bounds ahead of the general level of the last 30 years. But these guys still take quarters and sometimes games off...and as a team that is yet to achieve anything you just can't afford tp do that. Scary thought that could do another 2018 Perth rollover or even worse in a big final.

The 2 losses so far have been based off intensity and they'll definitely cost us top 2...hopefully not top 4.

Maynard and DeGoey were absolutely flying today.  DeGoey smashed us in the centre.

More than half of our team we're spectators today.  The Pies played hungry like we were early in the season.

The low kicks into our backline from the pies were from a total lack of pressure from our mids. Which then doesn't help our rebounds with May/Lever etc.  Not something we've let happen much this season.

Sparrow - looked slow and like a deer looking into headlights

Fritsch / TMac / Weid - gave nothing.  Nor did Kozzy really.

JJ and Dogga can hold head high

Reset, get Viney and BBB in after the bye and go again.

I had been thinking most of the year that Weids number represents what we should ask for in trade at the end of the year. I was comfortable with him having a decent run of games to hold his marks and show some confidence. That time ends now. I think BBB number is what we will get in trade.

When the opposition want it more you need to be more skilful than them. We weren't. Guys like McDonald, Pickett and Oliver missing sitters. Fritta, Spargo, Harmes, LAngdon and Gawn going at 50 percent disposal efficiency.

Selfish midfield efforts from Oliver, Petracca, Harmes, etc. Too much Hollywood from Oliver and Petracca.

McDonald, Weed, Spargo, Sparrow and Petty were terrible.

I think when you know what we are capable of and then watch us turn up and play like trash for 4 straight quarters you can’t help but feel cheated.
Games will be lost. But it’s how you lose games and the sort of games you lose. We don’t seem to ever learn. We’ve missed out on finals before losing games we were expected to win and frankly this is no difference. To drop these games is so costly in such a tight competition and can well be the difference between a flag or bust.

It was just a poor effort, today.

I can live with skill errors but our effort around the ball was poor.

To those saying that teams are starting to work us out, I don't think that's it at all. If you aren't putting significant pressure on the ball, then even the best defences will be picked apart.

Our system stacks up - but only if our effort is there. In fact, I would argue our system is the reason we didn't lose by 10 goals.

Sam Weideman needs to find another career

This sort of stuff is unacceptable. Have a bit of a think about it, and tell us all if you really think making that kind of personal judgement about a footballer at the highest level, who is undeniably valued by his peers but who you DON’T know, is either fair or justified. Just garbage.

Really well spoken by Lever. I encourage everyone who complains about Goodwin and players when they speak in the media to listen to this:

Completely agree, always a great communicator. Clear, no BS message

This team has got big heads.

Oliver and  Trac were terrible - trying to take on all comers. Olivers' kicks for goal are putrid. Trac thinks he' s auditioning for a Hollywood movie today.

The fwd line was a genuine debacle. The ease at which Pies players marked the ball and exited our fwd 50 was reminiscent of the terrible years a decade ago.

Where are all the Weid defenders today? What a pathetic game. You could almost forgive him if he stopped Moore but MOore was one of their best.

Fritsch chooses to play every second week. And TMac? Not sure what happened to him today. But there was simply no cohesions and everyone was playing for themselves.

I have no voice from screaming at our players to man up  - the number of times a Pie player would get the ball and there would be 3 or 4 immediate options with none of our players chasing nearly made me throw up.

The defence was a complete shambles and our slow predicatable ball movement proved easy to counter today. They had 14 marks inside their 50 by fourth quarter. Horrid defending

Blueprint to beat Melbourne is simply get the ball in quickly and don't allow our defenders to defend. They seemed unable to dop that one on one today.

The usual suspects will come out saying 'oh we are 11 and 2 , what a great result"  but we have seen this movie too many times before. We simply cannot crush teams we are expected to beat. And when it counts we had no leaders on the field.

Digusting performance against a really average team.

Lest we forget North in 2016 - if we play like this after the Bye then that’s exactly what will happen.

Anybody who thinks we gun play like this after the bye can gagf

Maybe the boys were gassed.

It has been a long season already, and we've done a hell of a lot.

11-2 is a great reward for that effort.

We'll be back after the bye, firing.

Reset.

This is as dejecting as the round 23 loss against em and the lost to Port after Jimmy had passed

Well thank god we don't have to play sydney there this year. In 2 weeks we better be back at the G.

But yeah bucks must be thinking where has this been all year. They win 2 in a row and as of now he is unemployed.

At least things can be worked on now. Our backline didn't function properly today, some of our midfielders didn't use the ball well and our forward line just did not work.

Why would you bet against the side you support, don't you rubbish the performancethen.

Uhm I back AGAINST the Dees every single week. Have done for years. Why? Because I love the MFC with every fibre of my being. I figure if we win, I’m thrilled. If we lose, I’m devastated but I’m devastated with a little extra $. That’s how much I love this club. As for rubbishing their performance, I challenge anyone to find any post of mine wherein I rubbish the players, or the club or anything else to do with MFC.
I have NEVER, nor would I ever rubbish the Dees. Right now I’m so angry I’m crying. Not because my beloved Dees lost, but because someone has effectively questioned my way of adoring this club. There ya go, hope that’s made your day.

No run and support today .

Far from a selfless game.

We just couldn’t match their intensity.

No run nails it, equates to lack of effort!
Very disappointing, but still at 11-2.

Weideman is a liability at present, hope he can turn things around, but we can’t keep picking him! Limited preseason often bites!

I didn't say you did rubbish them, I said that if you backed another side to beat them don't rubbish them if they lose.

When we beat Essendon in a couple of weeks I don’t want to hear from any of the “supporters” who overreacted today.

The only thing worse than a loss is when other supporters dump on supporters for dumping on the team. It’s a footy forum. If you don’t want to hear opposing opinions you should head to the China forum.

Ok, take a poll of DL posters who agree or not, then have another crack. Tell me Mr Webber, where do YOU think Weideman’s future lies? Based on his contribution to date. Collingwoods key forwards kicked 7 goals today, Weid did not get a kick!

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
