Really glad that Harmes is back playing good footy in the guts.  Nullifying dangerous opponents, while breaking lines through the centre square and providing some great drive of his own.

There were a good number of people who were writing him off as an ordanary player who no longer had a place in the side.  Clearly an asset the way he's playing at the moment.

Don't forget YZEEEE

I think we played with extra players in the second half, Hunter and Williams.

Seriously, what a great 3rd quarter, run, run ,run.

The youngsters, JJ, Petty, Sparrow, Sparg's, Pickett, Rivers, really happy with and for them.

Melky is on such thin ice. His role is difficult to see, if he keeps his spot, it must be what the coaches want.

Robinson, Cameron, kept quiet, Rich did not hurt us.

Their tall forwards were a worry early, then we started playing on our terms.

Some of our quick in close handballs were amazing. Broke the lines and gave us a go.

Oliver, Tracc, Gawn (the rover), TMac, May all great 2nd half and leadership.

Playing him in his natural position, works wonders

He’s our coach and deserves huge praise...love the bloke!

Also noticing that we have turned around our centre square clearances since that horrible game in that respects against Sydney.

The combination of Clarry and Gawn were great at winning out of there in the second half and Gawn seems to have got his radar back, with some great knock downs straight into the hands of our on ballers.

Best full game I have seen Charlie play...very effective.

Goodnight dees fans although it will be hard to sleep after that win. I'm still on a high. Just awesome & can't wait to read all about it tomorrow

Welcome to Skuit's random post-match thought-bubbles.

It's nice to support a real football team. I'm so (expletive) proud of the boys tonight. But it's a bizarre feeling though that after so many years supporting the MFC in the wilderness that my pride in the team now has a fatherly quality.

Have loved Pickett's dressage approach for set-shots all season. Disappointed that BT expressed a similar sentiment tonight before I put it on public record. Yet, I still have time to claim that May's body posture resembles one of the Rolling Stones.

Paging @demonstone

Eric Hipwood reminds me of what Sam Weideman hasn't been able to achieve. We were literally out-marked in the first half, with Brisbane beating us by first hitting up marking targets at half-forward to negate our usual defensive dominance.

I was the lone MFC supporter in the venue tonight. A Brisbane guy said it probably wasn't what I was used to coming from Melbourne, before I told him I wasn't from from Melbourne, and then realised I've spent most of my life as the lone MFC supporter.

Although, if I wasn't a Melbourne supporter, I would probably have an even greater appreciation for how good Oliver and Trac truly are, even though I already think they are two of our best if not greatest ever mid-fielders.

I bet large on Melbourne for $6.50 at 40+ (gamble responsibly or not at all), and despite the beautiful gritty win I'm getting concerned that we don't have a kill mentality. Started the exact same thread in 2017 and was ridiculed, until . . .

Shout out to the 5000 predominantly Dees crowd given credit by Max in his post-game. Worth a coupla goals, it seems!?

It was amazing to see so many demon fans there all proud of their team - would say the crowd was at least 80% Dee’s fans

I know a true fan watches 4 quarters of a replay so im gonna skip the first half and just watch the second half twice.

GO DEES !!!

Both of them have put our club on the right track, dare i say it, to win our first flag since 64.

Can't thank them enough, it feels amazing?

I'm feeling it. I believe! We can do it.

Start of the season he was easily one of the top coaches under pressure, I think a journalist has their big call as him sacked by about round 8 with Williams taking over. There were plenty on here that wanted him gone as well, absolutely credit to Goody in having belief in himself and more importantly the players.

I keep saying it, there is plenty of footy to play in the year so I’m just enjoying the ride (as I’m sure Simon is as well!).

Mate he was phenomenal.

Dead set channelling Jack Viney with his hardness and clearence work. He was absolutely superb.

I’m just so stoked with tonight’s win. Can you believe this is OUR TEAM?

Oh man. I’m hammered. Hammered on the taste of success (and Japanese whisky) that is.

A Melbourne side like I have never witnessed before.'

I hate to say it but I actually think we can win the flag this year.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
