This would be a hell of an upset and the only game I can think of as a comparison is us vs EFC in 2012 .... the drug year. They were on top, we'd lost 9 in a row, and we knocked them over 8.10 to 6.16. Shocking conditions and we dragged them down to our level, and forced them to play as horribly as us. Our experience at awful football gave us the edge!

That's what North will try to do to us today. But it won't work. In the EFC game, that was the start of their run of losses and soft tissue injuries as their bodies couldn't keep up with the effect of the drugs. And ... 6.16. They should have knocked us off handily.

GO DEMONS!!!

I thought as much. The monks back in those days swore a lot more than that.

Perhaps Brown goes into Melksham's spot and Melksham goes into the middle (at least more often)?

Melks played in the middle towards the back end of last year so its possible but he was pretty ineffective. Can't see any value or upside in the move tbh

The markets got a whiff of the MFCSS on this thread since the Viney news.

Why did you have to remind us of how we lost the unloseable game

I really hope we're just being conservative with Viney and it's not a 4 week injury as has been reported.

On the positive side, it will be great to see how Baker fits into the side. Who knows, maybe he will show something that forces us to keep him in the side longer term.

It solves the problem of bringing in a forward without dropping one I guess? Agree he's not great in the middle, more trying to predict rather than ask for what I want.

Probably just MFC supporters trying to hedge their bets and attempt to ease the pain of a potential loss.

no idea why people are panicking about brayshaw getting taken from a wing. He butchered the ball horrendously last week. one of his worst games by foot last week. Inside thanks!

Interesting Jones is the sub. I'm assuming goody say down with Jones to discuss this plan.

Not going to lie I'm more nervous today than last week.

Previous Melbourne teams wouldn't have handled the pressure of going undefeated & could get top spot.

But this Melbourne team seems to want to achieve things and are more mature. I'm expecting a good win

Regarding Jones, I couldn't care less if he beats Neita's record. If he earns his games on merit then good luck to him but i won't be down with the "we have to get Jonesy to 307 games" narrative. And besides, Neita is a class act and a more than worthy record games holder for the club.

Ruthlessness and maturity means we put this team to the sword. Thats what the great Hawthorn and Geelong teams did. We should be looking to do the same

I don't think that's true actually. At least not all the time.

Those teams, and the lions all had lots of scrappy wins against bottom sides, tbe dees amongst them.

Tbe tigers are probably a better comparison, given they are the equal of those power teams, and they are contemporaries.

The tigers often win by 3 or 4 goals against bottom teams.

The Viney injury story was going around earlier in the week so it’s no surprise.

Really? Where?

If we knew midweek why didn’t we keep Sparrow free? Surely he’s more deserving of a seniors spot than Baker? If not Sparrow then Chandler?

We’ve tried hard all year to keep players in similar roles. If our plan is to move Brayshaw or Melksham into Viney’s role, I’m surprised. Sparrow fills Viney’a spot well IMO.

Meanwhile the MFCSS is settling in well right now...

If he doesn’t play any minutes today you’d have to say he’d be lining up against the Swans next week.....

Very much an outside mid.  We are still short one decent mid IMV.  Imagine if we went into a big final and one of the big three didn't get up.

Melk to a wing (two way tank??) while Gus is playing a bit more mid time?

I'm getting set up for the game on Kayo and their 'past classic' on the suggested playlist is the 1996 North over Melbourne by 113.

Boooooooo.

I think mature players like Jones are perfect for the sub. Experience to play where required, can play a full game if needed or a burst when some pace has gone from the ground. Can provide support from the bench and doesn't stiffle development like having a younger player on only limited or no game time. If he was sub a few weeks in a row it wouldn't have a severe impact on his residual fitness and less soreness slowing him down.

We will get plenty of opportunities, so would love to see us be accurate.

Defense to continue the intercepts.

Plenty of marking and swarm running.

Get the ball and control it.

Go Dees

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
