Finishing top is overrated.  Last side to win the flag finishing first after the H&A was Hawthorn in 2013.  The next two were from 2nd and 3rd, the Bulldogs in 2016 were 7th after H&A; the only year the Tigers were first was 2018 when they dropped the prelim. The great Brisbane side never finished on top either.  I'll happily take 2nd, 3rd or 4th after round 23.

So long as we are on the “right side” of MCG finals it doesn’t matter. If finishing 4th means we end up playing Port in Adelaide, then I rather finish 1st.

I'd take Top 4 and not have to play an interstate final

We are only a 1/3rd into the year, however I will be ecstatic when we finish top 4.

Go Dee’s.!!!!!!!!

Not this week.

Dogs to beat Richmond handily. What would we need to beat NM by to pick up 25% points.

I just had to put this here.

Sometimes it awesome to be wrong, right?

Not as awesome as collecting on my tigers Dees multi chief

So now we are orgasmically sitting on top of the ladder lets hope we don't suffer fron postcoital dysphoria and plummet down the ladder.

Yup.

We have beaten Sydney once since 2011 and twice since 2006.   The only team left that still owns our souls, and beat us yet again last season when we were in the finals hunt.

One of those was an absolute belting at the MCG when roos was their coach and admitted he had no answers that day

These stats are a sad reminder of both how [censored] we have been and how old I am. So cheers.

We are top of the ladder and that is all....top and unbeaten.

Even 6 months ago this position was unthinkable, the stuff only the true believers would ever dare to dream. Well its happened and here we are, and we are the envy of the league. I think some of you just need to sit back chill and enjoy it while its here. We have gone a long way to reestablish ourselves as a powerhouse of the league once again along with the chance to build a huge membership base. Appreciate the club, the coach and the players who have worked their guts out to get us here.

Go Dees.

Seven rounds in

Undefeated and atop the ladder

Sure.. it's not the endgame but hell it's nice

Just enjoy....

It's a pity that supporters cannot experience the Northey days when everyone was welcome in the change rooms.

Heady days and so much fun

PS... cannot remember ladies being allowed but cannot think why not.

Think of the children. At the Hawthorn game I saw the joy in their faces when their team was winning and kicking goals. I feel so happy for them as well. We need this success for new generations of supporters.

I would expect we will have a fade at some point this year so ultimately I'm just stoked that whatever has come at us so far this season we have risen above it. A lot of footy to be played but being top of the table at this point is a great feeling.

Mate think about all us mid 30s supporters who have not seen us do anything but suck for basically our entire life.

I am genuinely in foreign territory here.

This time

we are on top legitimately

Last time a bit of an accident

7 wins. 7 games PDG in my view

enjoy the view from up here, been a while.

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

  • PREGAME: Brisbane

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
