Im not at all, our overuse of the footy won the game, it broke Richmonds game plan up.

It did. I would say it was a clear tactic to negate Richmond having a loose defender for us to kick to all night. This was covered on RSN this morning (the discussion was excellent) how we used handball to get through their defensive structure and it dragged their defenders up the ground, opening up F50 for us to kick into with mainly 1 on 1 contests.

I know we are a really good side this year. I do NOT need confirmation of that from the media. I could care less what they think. In fact I would prefer that didn’t rate us at all.

I feel generally surprised at supporters who are outraged at the “lack of respect” shown to us by the media, and feel they need their confirmation for us to be the real deal.

Look and believe with your own eyes. We are 6 and zip. We have played and beaten some good sides. What more confirmation do you need?

We beat the reigning premiers and did so convincingly. What i dont get is the garbage that King has dished up last night and this morning regarding the change in gameplan ( over handballing). How is this not a display of innovative coaching and maturity in the playing group's ability to adjust gamestyle within season? I think the other 17 coaches will have taken notice on Saturday night and skipped a few heartbeats thinking how the MFC will front up against them.

We are still getting schooled in clearance / stoppage work. This has to be our in season project to get right for finals. It was one of our most potent weapons in 2018 and will be essential to take it to the Doggies.

Just felt compelled to put something down on this but the utter contempt for us from certain media types is really insulting. I know we have been awful, truly awful in the past and i get the whole trust thing, i think its totally fair enough, we have failed many test before and i get that it stays with people but my goodness, some just cannot bring it upon themselves to pay is any praise without a but on the end.

The 2 main offenders are the 2 people who, have been burnt by the demons the most in the past, these so called experts tipped Melbourne to win flags in 2019 and were made to look silly, are David King and Kane Cornes.

I know it should not worry me but it really aggravates me that these 2 in particular cannot give any unconditional praise.

Firstly Cornes says we were really good but was critical of Kozzie and teh pointing to the scoreboard incident.. of all the things we did well, that was his main take, its unbelievable. I for one loved the aggression and the arrogance of it, we have been passive for the best part of 10 years, we show some spunk, some swagger and some mongrel and the criticism still comes, they ask us to stand for something and then are critical when we do.

And David King cannot bring himself to give praise, last night, if you can watch the first crack on Fox, his contempt for us was embarrassing, he could not just compliment our game without a rider, his thing was that Richmond will remember this and that Kozzie to extract the free kick dipped his shoulder and was alluding that it was illegal and not on, it was laughable, it was embarrassing for King, and it stood out like the dogs proverbials that he hates this club..

I hope we keep going, these guys will run out of things to be negative about eventually, or maybe not but its just so boring. At the start of the year, every media tool said Melbourne was the team under the greatest amount of pressure, we come out and beat 6 sides, including the premier and the grand finalist and still they find a way to be critical.

Just a vent. Feel better now,

Who cares, enjoy the win ?

Just a vent. Feel better now,

montagna (who is a big rap for us) made reference to the fact that King told him off air that Melbourne 'WILL' let him down.  [censored]. Head.

I understand the need to vent sometimes. Certain turnips in the media do my head in with their obvious distaste for Melbourne doing well. But a bit of context for the two you’ve pointed out.

Cornes is the footballing equivalent of a shock jock. His job is to say things that will get people up in arms and create talking points. So you simply have to take what he says with a grain of salt. Although he’s also not the only one to have that take on Kozzie. I loved it personally. And Koz as an entire package for that matter.

.I thought King raised some interesting points, in particular whether there was any danger in changing your gameplan for certain opponents. That is the use of handball to break through Richmond as opposed to kicking it long to be picked off by their intercept defenders.

Montagna countered by saying it was fine to tinker with the gameplan as long as there aren’t fundamental changes week to week.

As you point out, King went early with the grand predictions for Melbourne and got burnt, so he’s taking the cautious approach. But even on first crack he was still very complimentary saying the ducks were all starting to line up.

You get the feeling the players aren’t listening to the media noise anyway. Which hasn’t always been the case.. That’s what matters.

100% only winning the Premiership will change the perception of the club...Geelong were the handbaggers until their dominant era and we never hear about 9thmond for the Tigers anymore either

Completely agree. And this is where you convert supporters too. Either new migrants or you get the bandwagoners. Just look at Hawthorn, many of their supporters are ex-Demons who couldn't cop losing and started supporting a side who won 12 flags in 50 years. :P

Exactley, and this highlights my reason why i get frustrated, as a well respected analyst of the game his distain for the club has foggied his thinking, it was brilliant coaching, gutsy coaching, and adapted for one game, we have managed to win 5 games prior to that doing something different.

If Kane bothered to do any research - or basically just think before he shoots from the lip - he would have seen Goodwin have a quiet word with Kozzie. A slightly over-the-top reaction by an excited youngster calmly dealt with by the coach. Excellent work by Goody.

I find it funny that Kane Cornes who was one of the most annoying players of the modern era and an expert at getting under his opponents skin would criticize Kozzie for pointing at the scoreboard.

We know you secretly loved it Kane.

As has been said: Kane Cornes' schtick is to say controversial things. It's why he gets paid. He does the Saturday evening video on the AFL website, the Sunday Footy Show, the radio Monday morning and Footy Classified Monday evening. Whatever he says on the Saturday or Sunday, gets discussed further on the Monday, and gives AFL.com/SEN/Channel 9 more stuff to tweet and talk about.

At any rate, there's some merit to what he said, which came in the context of praise for us overall. We have made the finals once in the last 15 years and we're pointing to the scoreboard the first time we get to beat the competition's benchmark team. You don't have to agree with him but it's not like what he's saying has no merit.

As to David King, I personally consider him to be the most overrated commentator going around. He talks so much utter rubbish. Just so, so much. So who cares what he says about us. He was stupid to go off about how good we were in 2018, so if he wants to keep suggesting we'll fail this year, fine.

I agree Titan with most of what you say, especially the David King stuff, i just think the point to the scoreboard stuff is a bit overblown, in my opinion, i know we have only made finals once in 15 years.. and we have been a passive ordinary, laughable football club for most of that time, i like us standing up, i like the arrogance and the swagger of youth, and who knows what they said to Kozzie, it obviously fired him up, it was an extremely hot moment and the Coach got him and had a chat, move on. I for 1 want my club to be gracious but i also want it to be tough and relevant and play with an edge.

The media is 100% inconsequential to our performances, yesterday, today and tomorrow.

I for one am happy we are still not being rated as highly as the Dogs, although we have beaten better side than they have

The less pressure is on us to perform by the clowns who call themselves footy experts, the better.

We will eventually drop a game we should win, just like we have won a game not many expected us to win, and the criticism will come thick and fast. That is how fickle the footy media is. Just as they still rate  Richmond a chance to win the flag, and are all certain they'll make the top 4. It takes a long time for these so called experts to change their tune for better or worse.

In fact, we have beaten three teams currently in the eight ranked 4th, 6th, and 7th, plus teams sitting 14th, 15th and 16th. The Bulldogs have only beaten one side currently in the eight (Brisbane, in 8th place) plus teams currently ranked 10th, 11th, 14th, 17th and 18th. We'll know more about the Bulldogs next week after they've played Richmond. (We'll also know more about our team after we've played North. It's the sort of game we'd lose barely 6 months ago.)

Watching the replay ( which is difficult when following a player) But jones looked to be always close to the stoppage.

Pain and The Queeny both toss bags of the highest order.

King’s MO is to make a bold early prediction and gloat about it later if he gets it right. I heard him in rnd 1say that Essendon could be a bolter this year. He also said a couple of weeks ago that the Saints had more “weapons” than us.

I doubt he watched the Melbourne game because the North v Freo game was on at the same time. I wonder if he changes his tune a bit more after we belt his beloved Roos.

Montagna is a good analyst FWIW. He picked up on us very early.

The media like to say the Dogs are the best team in he AFL...  yeah right, we have beaten last years Grand Finalists,  while the Dogs haven't played either of them but will get a depleted Richmond team minus Dusty this week.  Who have the Dogs beat anyway and why do the media worship them so much?

One way to find out.
Play them and beat them.
Same with the rest of the comp.
We've inherited top spot before and gone to water when we ran into the top clubs.

The only media performers that have rated us and i respect their judgement because they put their head on the chopping block a month ago are Leigh Montagna, Brad Johnson and Matt Rendell.

The rest are a bunch of flogs.

Dogs have beaten no one.

They will get a weakened version of the Tiges due to our brutality.

Correct weight, lets see how they fair on Friday night.

  • PREVIEW: Sydney

The two teams competing at the MCG on Sunday afternoon have each traversed a long and arduous path since their previous encounter on a sweltering March evening in Sydney a season and a half ago. Both experienced periods of success at various times last year. The Demons ran out of steam in midseason while the Swans went on to narrowly miss the ultimate prize in the sport. Now, they find themselves outside of finals contention as the season approaches the halfway mark. The winner this week will remain in contact with the leading pack, while the loser may well find itself on a precipice, staring into the abyss. The current season has presented numerous challenges for most clubs, particularly those positioned in the middle tier. The Essendon experience in suffering a significant 91-point loss to the Bulldogs, just one week after defeating the Swans, may not be typical, but it illustrates the unpredictability of outcomes under the league’s present set up.

  • REPORT: Brisbane

“Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

  • CASEY: Southport

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.
