The coverage of the Hawks game flashed to May in the stands.  I was amazed at how well looked- just a bit of shiner remained

BTW Pennant was yours a booze associated injury?

Actually a cricket ball to the head, lesson learnt to wear a helmet at all times in the nets

At Casey last week B.Brown took some shots for goal on a shortened run up.  iirc didn't make many long leads to the ball so it was hard to tell if he had his usual speed to break away from his opponent.

He wore light bandages around his knee which is a good sign but I have concerns about his mobility which will be lethal vs Tigers.  And, if his knee isn't fully recovered it would limit his ground and defensive work which hasn't been one of his strengths even at the best of times.

And, while B. Brown may have spent some pre-season working on cohesion with mids and other fwds Sam has had a few years working with our game plan so is a much lower risk this week.

So I can see why he may not be ready and we prefer Sam.

Anyone know the last time a senior listed player kicked 7 goals in the reserves and didn't make the AFL team the following week?

Might have been Brad Miller when he kicked 10?

Sounds about right. Thank god those days are over.

I remember Allen Jakovich kicking 13 or 14 in the reserves one day. I’m not sure if he was promoted the next week, the powers at the club kept him waiting and waiting before he debuted in the seniors.

Pretty sure it was a common occurrence in bygone days. Mark Jackson had a season with Richmond ressies, topped the goalkicking in the comp but couldn't get a senior game.

Same with Allen Jackovich early at Melb & I recall a Dees reserves player called Louis Tesoriero in the 70's kicking a swag but not getting a senior game.

I'd go with the combo that got us here - Fritsch for M.Brown and May for Petty.  If Fritsch doesn't get up I'd go for B.Brown over Weid, it's career achievement vs last week and I'm a big Weid fan.

Prestia and Vlastuin out does hurt the Tigers in both areas.

It will be great if May can play, he is important for Dusty when he's forward - no-one else could really go with him.  I really think this could be the difference between winning and losing.

I'm firmly in the No Dusty = No Flags camp.

Yeah so nothing in the past 20 years. I think these days its pretty rare.

He debuted in round 1 as I recall and we got flogged, then he was sent back to the VFL for  a couple of months.. then came back in midseason and the rest is history.

Absolutely no way Tomlinson gets dropped on his current form. He's in great form and playing his role really well. We've worked hard on the Lever-May-Tomlinson combo and it's working. I like Petty but right now he's cover for those three.

100% agree on that re our defence. In attack Goodwin has already said both Weideman & BBB are ready to go so expect both to play.

I thought I'd read that Goodwin has already stated that both wont play this week and that Weid was the one most likely - He said he was not wanting to make too many changes to a team that so far at least has got the job done

He specifically said both won’t play this AM. And Brown trained in the B team, which would be an unusual mind games. It’s pretty safe to say Brown won’t be in.

Its now down to Weid and Fritsch or just one or the other.

Report on Goodwin's press conf: dees-defender-set-to-face-tigers-but-only-one-big-forward-will-return

M Brown did only bike work at training so he certainly won't play.

This was interesting:  "Nathan Jones and James Jordon were among midfielders to train in the 'B' side, however four players from the extras will be required to make up the starting 22 for Saturday night".

I can't imagine we would start Jones on the bench.  I think he should start and end his 300th on the field.  But there is a hint that his games thereafter may be limited which is as would be expected.  JJ may be heading for a rest at Casey soon or medisub this week; I think it is good to manage the young guys.

Be disappointed if Weid gets a game while Fritsch kicks off the dew at Punt Road.

I would’ve have Fritsch in the 2’s but Id think about resting him even if he gets medical clearance.

The old ‘if you don’t train you don’t play’ rule is a pretty good one I think. I don’t want a marking player who isn’t 100% confident in his marking.

January....... cricket training.......so it was booze related!

Agreed. Reckon Jordon will be the sub this week while Sparrow goes from sub to a full game for Casey.

Then Jordon or Sparrow replaces Jones the following week if Jones struggles to impact this weekend.

Weid for M Brown  (may have been his last MFC game)

      May for Petty

Fritsch for Jordon (pending Fritta's injury. If not, Jordon stays)

Jetta for Sparrow - in terms of sub.

If Weid and Fritta both come in, we lose a midfield rotation in Jordon. Not sure if that's ideal. or not.

Fritter will rest another week

Between BB and Weid

From what saw last week

WEID JUST AHEAD

SO M Brown out

MAY IN FOR Petty

Yeah I have a gut feel Fritsch will miss this week.

We need 22 blokes that are 100% ready to go against the best in the business.

weid 100%                for brown

may 95%                   for petty

fritta 45-50%             for jordon?

If Fritsch is right (doubtful) I have a feeling he might come in for Melksham. Fox Footy's 'selection whispers' is saying his spot is under some heat.

Weid for Brown a lock, May for Petty all but locked in, IMO.

You gotta feel for Mitch Brown. Wasn't half bad and definitely not the worst on the ground. Stiff kicking a couple and getting dropped, but he knows what's on the line.

My sense is that you and others on here who closely follow what's going on are going to be far more reliable that Fox Footy's 'selection whispers'

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
