To qualify for a nomination for the rising star award you need to be both under the age of 21 at the start of the year and have played less than 10 games prior to the commencement of the season.

For Melbourne we have Jackson, Rivers, Sparrow, Jordon, Chandler, Bedford, Bowey, Laurie, Rosman, Bradtke and D. Smith all eligible to receive a nomination.

Errol Guldon has taken out the first nomination with his 19 disposal, 3 goals and 10 marks on debut for the Swans against Brisbane.

Nominations

Round 1 - Errol Guldon - Sydney

Reckon 95% of people would have had Rowell winning it this year.

Will he able to do it in half a season?

Braeden Campbell, pick 5 in last years draft, has taken out the round 2 rising star nomination for his 25 disposal game against the Crows. This makes it back-to-back nominations for the swans with both players drafted as part of their academy as well.

Nominations

Round 1 - Errol Gulden - Sydney

Round 2 - Braeden Campbell - Sydney

Given the bias towards Sydney, I wonder if Buddy will get a look in. He hasn't played 10 games in a long time....

Surely Rivers gets it this week. The award is given to the most consistently performing young player. I can’t think of many better this year in the comp

Would certainly be a chance with his game last night. Will have to wait and see how the rest of the round plays out.

You'd think so. He was stiff to miss a nomination last year.

Rivers was epic last night, so proud of our group of younger players atm

Agreed. Rivers is something else. But also agree with your comments about the young brigade. For me this is just as thrilling as watching our stars. They have injected youth, energy,  enthusiasm, tenacity and never give up spirit. They have a fresh approach untainted by the past. Add to Rivers, Jordon, Kozzi, Jackson, Spargo, Petty, Sparrow, and yes, even Weideman. The future with these kids looks bright.

Rivers has solid stats every week but it is his energy and second efforts and spoils that go unheralded.  He also stopped 2-3 certain goals for the Dogs through his smart play and clearing kicks.  Gets plenty of metres with his clearances and rarely wastes the footy. Very positive outlook and hopefully we gets the nomination.
Anorher excellent performance contributed to our overall team effort.

Nick Cox is also due a nomination, but hopefully Trent gets the nod this week

He’s gonna end up a ripper, will win a Brownlow before he’s done imo.

Thanks Chook, and about time he was recognized.

Not bad being on top of the ladder and having 3 rising star awards.  JT is a genius.

Annoyed with Cox not getting nominated off the back of a 9-possession game?

Jeepers.

Well done Rivers, absolutely deserved after his best game to date.

I am really interested to see what position Rivers is playing in 3 years time, will he still be at Half back, or transition into being a winger

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
