Surely Hunt would be chance to go out for Hibberd. almost like for like. And Hibberd is better player, if nowhere near as quick.

Might be wrong but I couldn't see Hibberd on Match Simulation vision.

Sparrow, Jones and Hunt the clear three contenders to make room for any potential inclusions IMO. Harmes wasn't fantastic but I don't think he was anywhere near as bad as people are suggesting.

If fit, I'd consider Viney and Melksham for Sparrow and Jones. Hibberd could maybe take Hunt's spot. Yes there's a speed loss there, but Hunt made so many mistakes today it might still be a net win.

Jetta? You gotta be kidding.

I’m with ya, Jetta 1 on 1 was enormous on the weekend.

Out Sparrow, Hunt

Give Hunt sometime to settle, he is a confidence player and once he gets his tail up he will make a huge difference to our side.  The fast track at Marvel will suit him

Lack of space might not suit him...

I hope you're right and I'm wrong though.

As per usual, Fritsch escapes scrutiny

3 marks inside 50 for 2 goals one behind, and 6 score involvements (behind only Oliver).

Would seem he is precisely doing his job.  Fry a different Fritta.

There was a piece of play sometime late in the game where Jetta was one on one with a loose ball to contest and I spontaneously burst out 'Jetta is smarter that you' at the Freo player (on the screen).  Never had a doubt and sure enough Jetta outpositioned and outplayed his opponent without hesitation.  Also made me look like I knew what was going on for once, so yet another reason to be grateful for Uncle Nev. :D

Hunt was moved back because he was a failure as a forward. Sooner or later you have to get the footy, which has always been his achilles heel.

I was dubious on him in both pre season hit outs and these were reinforced round1. The only thing that should save him this week is the saints small forwards and a fast track. He makes too many errors does not get enough ball as a rebound to be dangerous with his speed and lacks defensive awareness. He has great speed so I hope it comes together but he on borrowed time with Hibberd on the improve and Bowey likely to develop quickly.

Us being willing to develop Brayshaw there over Baker I think says a fair bit about where he is currently at.

I’d have Sparrow out before Jones, Nathan didn’t have a great game but he was serviceable. If Harmes really is out then I’d agree with those ins.

It’s not some of the good things Jones does when he gets the ball. It is his inability to do the “without ball” things like tackle, block, shepherd and defensively rung that is the concern. Such things will kill us at Marvel with the saints run.

I’m not convinced on Bowey, he uses it well but never really starred at TAC level but im also mindful of the fact he did not play this year.   If he does come in our defence will be weakened but offensively  he could provide something.  I think Laurie is a better long term prospect

What amuses me is that out suggest changes to the side without seeing the performance of players in the reserves. Viney and Brayshaw in the same side has been a failure ( mostly ). Extending Jones's contract was typical MFC. He will get his 300 games now a sub is added to the senior list. Our biggest problem is the lack of forwards , Iwould probably start Majak on the the bench. Or perhaps put Rivers up front then we can bring in Hibbard/Petty. Melksham to replace Jones. Bowey to replace Harmes

All last years recruits are a long way off it...may take a year or two to make it IMO.

Probably not...but I don't think he offer anything unfortunately.

I think we haven't seen enough of him to make a definitive call, he needs to start having big games at VFL level and force his way into the line up. I felt he was one of many younger players that suffered from the lack of a genuine second competition last season.

I'm really keen to give Hunt another crack this week, particularly as this is a week we need some speed.

I'd go with:
IN: Viney, Hibberd
Out: Harmes, Sparrow

Rotate Viney through the guts and HFF, I want to see his attack on the footy force mistakes from the Saints defence.

The report about Harmes out for six weeks with a broken wrist also said Melk and Hibberd wont be coming back in this week.

If that’s the case then very simple, Harmes out and Viney in.

One on One against a little boy in Bobby Hill on a good track at the G is a far different proposition to chasing Butler, Gresham or Higgins around a lightning fast track at Docklands.

Would love to see the Club have the courage to select “horses for courses” and bring in some real leg speed for Docklands.

Out = Harmes, Jones & Jetta

Not sure going in with 19 players will do us any favours

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
