Didn’t the club say they choose Daw as he would be ready by round 1.

I was sure that was one of the reasons Daw got picked and the former number1 pic from Saints didn’t (name escapes me).

Richardson, who coached and drafted McCartin at St Kilda, said Melbourne determined that delisted Kangaroos utility Daw was more likely to be ready for Round 1.

“Timing’s a bit of an issue for us. We really needed someone that we think was a chance to play for us early,” Richardson told SEN Breakfast.

Why Melbourne chose Majak Daw over Paddy McCartin to train with the club

He was just saying Daw was more likely to be ready for Round 1 than McCartin.    Hardly a ringing endorsement on Daws chances.

I stand by my training report last Monday and yes even though he might have been blowing a bit his skills looked clean and as iterated he was very good below his knees. Interesting and I take Cards report that maybe they were just easing him of a bit yesterday with the view of going harder Tommorrow. Anyone know if traing is at Casey Fields or Goshes??

Must be an echo in here...

Oh dear, there goes our new 'gun' CHF.

hopefully we avoid and give the spot to a kid

I’d put more faith in Burgo and the gps data than Picket’s eye test.

But I will say Daw can simultaneously be a fair bit off match fitness AND still one of the most ready ruck/forward options outside the AFL system. The state leagues aren’t stacked with viable ruck options and there weren’t many delistings of big men last year. To illustrate the point Carlton have Oscar McDonald playing CHF/back up ruck tonight.

Maj could still be ready by about round 4 or so if he’s the type who can build match fitness whilst playing. I’m glad for him that he gets a game to show his stuff and to put up some gps numbers. Some guys just aren’t great trainers but can do the running when it matters.

everyone's so reactionary, just let it play out. this thread has now ruled out Daw, Kobe thread has a line through him and not a single person has any credible source. the only way to look at it is that we have 4 available slots and no one has been turned down yet so they're all still a chance

Very true, I’d be interested to know if Montagna made his fitness based comments on having seen him train and speaking to our fitness staff, or just off his gut.

Let’s see how he goes on Monday.

Montagna’s livelihood nowadays depends on him being noticed and he will make bold statements (regularly) to try and create a headline. Campbell Brown is/was the same, Kane Cornes, Ben Dixon, David King the list goes on.  Not saying he is definitely wrong on this one but I’m suggesting there is a decent chance his intel is questionable but he goes with it anyway because he needs all the attention he can get.

Well, sisso, maybe you should apply for a job at the club.
List manager and / or chairman of selectors!

It's also worth remembering that none of the four were considered worth adding to any list during trade and draft periods last year. We should not get our hopes too high with any of them.

The second worst club in the comp last year didn't want him how is he any good? Remember when we were hopeless and other clubs took our players, pretty much none of them ever did anything

Its less to do with Majak being good, and more to do with the fact we need coverage for BB and weid while they are injured. Recent history tells us we cannot rely on Tmac to carry the forward line. Having Majak available is prudent.

Fair enough, hope I'm wrong if we do pick him up - just never seen anything much from him to suggest he would help us win games of football even if we do have injuries

The strategy mighty not just be about winning games. Recruiting Daw, if indeed we do offer him a spot on the list, might be about protecting Luke Jackson from having to do too much work as the only tall forward or ruckman should all the other tall options be unavailable.

Agreed. Majak is also most probably itching to get back into footy; if he has the will, puts in the effort, hones his skills to our game planning under 'readable' new coaches - then all the best to him. He might also become the recruit of the year if things work out and his contribution is valued. He is a talented unit possibly out of match practice. PFence reports of his training efforts as impressive and skilled.

What's your plan if Max gets injured while Ben Brown and Weid are out and TMac and Jackson are covering for them in the forward line?  Are we going with Austin Bradtke in the first ruck?

Meanwhile, Essendon has jumped in and signed 18 year old South Australian prospect Kaine Baldwin who is expected to be a gun once he gets over his injury woes.

Every club passing him in the drafts suggests otherwise, although I’m surprised he wasn’t training with a club over summer.

Good luck to Kaine Baldwin but I’m not sure anyone is predicting a KPF, with two knee reconstructions, who was passed in both the National and Rookie Drafts, to be a gun.

Covid prevented many Demons fans from legally witnessing the victorious 2021 AFL Grand Final cup performance between the Demons and the Bulldogs, but we all grin when remembering those magnificent seven third quarter goals.
