Not sure about tmc at chf but hope gets back to form, imagine if that front 6 were all in form they would be very hard to beat.On paper thats a finals forward line

Sorry Apologies to Lord Nev and Joel Smith who both could have been in Interchange or if not fit enough in that category.

Not sure why you think Pickett is not in our best starting side??

Three talls up front won't work. May in his article on the AFL website yesterday stated the plan this year was to lock the ball into forward 50 so we need more smalls for that.

TMac and Melksham out for Spargo and next best small (whoever is training the best, perhaps one of the newbies)

I wouldn't have Tmac starting at CHF with Jackson Brown and Weideman there.. Way too tall.

Hard to imagine our best 22 with Tmac starting at CHF after his performance over the last 2 years. I don't care how fit he looks this pre-season needs to earn his way back into the side.

Usually practice matches are a chance to play players in different roles or play players not in the 22 to see how they perform under match conditions against another team. No team ever plays their best 22 in a practice match.

Do we have a practice match this week or is the OP referring to the Preseason Comp?

It’s a practice match I think they will trial the 4 talls if not put in Lockhart

Works in a practice match with the larger interchange, but that forward line is probably too tall.

We're still missing the small forwards we need to consistently win games. I know we drafted that way but until they're up and running, I reckon we could be looking at more of the same.

At least one of TMc, Jackson, Weideman or BBrown had to miss out on a weekly basis.

Well what is it, play our strongest team or trial things?

McDonalds pre season form is too hard to ignore so it would be playing their strongest team like Jordon that’s why I have him front of Lockhart

players regularly will sub out at HT/3QT in praccy matches, i'd imagine Brown would probably come out at some point maybe same as jackson to not over work them early on.

Similarly hibbo and jones would feature sporadically allowing nietschke/bowey/laurie the likes a feel for it for a quarter here or there

can also see viney/gawn sitting out say a final quarter to allow jacko to ruck and sparrow/jordon to feature inside

spargo and pickett another year and more mature should be improved and provide the small forward players you refer too

Is Tomlinson definitely locked in as a defender now?  Is he really that good back there?

I thought he was fairly serviceable last year. He's no star, but he appears to hold his own down back mostly.

Rather than trial players in other positions, why not pick the player that plays that position the best and most professionally and let them show it in a practice match? Scratch matches and training are good spots to try other positions.

I think we seem to be experimenting players in other positions too much in the Goody years.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi
