How crap is the MFC website!? Burgo gives the injury report, quite obviously wasn’t going to talk about Harmes until word got out and then they inserted a section which talks about him. Typical of the website – keep the supporters completely in the dark if they possibly can.

There's 2 reasons why I don't care about this:

1. Why give St Kilda any inside information any earlier than necessary

2. If Harmes has the surgery they then get a decent prognosis and can report that with more accuracy. And it is another news story and more clicks on the website. It's crappy content but whatever.

Sucks for Harmes, he's had a pretty poor time of it since his bursting 2018. Part of that is him and part of that is poor positioning IMO. 6 weeks out sucks, I wonder how close they were to subbing him?

Good to see Weid progressing, but it's interesting because the word from the club seemed to have Brown ahead of him for a return date in the early stages. Brown 4-6 is not very encouraging.

I don’t understand the theory about keeping them guessing.

if the opposition finds out at the last minute that a player is out and being replaced by a lesser player, how does that help us? It would surely lift their morale. And if the injured player is being replaced by a better player: wouldn’t that happen anyway, regardless of the injury.

The Saints wont waste a single moment worrying about a matchup for James Harmes. "Keeping them guessing" is the same as saying "i have no idea myself". No offence intended to the prior poster.

Looking much better this week even though M. Brown, J. Smith and Lockhart have nowhere to play and Jay's prognosis got somehow changed from "testicles" to "groin".

Injury List: Round 3

Mitch Brown (calf) — Available
Joel Smith (finger) — Available
Jay Lockhart (groin) — Available
Sam Weideman (leg) — 2 to 3 Weeks
Ben Brown (knee) — 3 to 5 Weeks
James Harmes (wrist) — 5 Weeks
Marty Hore (knee) — Season
Aaron Nietschke (knee) — Season

Three players available this week and nowhere to play them with no VFL practice matches.

Very happy to see Weid is only a couple of weeks away and Benny Browns timeframe hasnt blown out.

Had heard Brown and Weid were looking like returning at a similar time.  If Weid is ahead of Brown he might end up having a couple of matches to prove himself - will be very interesting to see how they manage the two of them, TMac, Fritsch and the resting ruckman.

I find it hard to believe that the will return at the same time. Unless the current forwards lose form I don’t see a spot for the Weid.

Sorry I mean that in interviews players had said they were on track to return from injury at the same time - it now looks like Weid is ahead of Brown in returning (from injury).  I imagine they will both play a bit at VFL level before joining the senior team

Weid for Jackson?

We lose some resting ruck ascendancy but gain some goal kicking ability, of which Jackson appears to have none of at the moment.

Not saying we should replace Weid with Jackson but unsure if we can fit another tall in.

This is what i am wondering about... when they are all fit, do we replace a small (spargo, ANB, Jones) with a tall (Ben Brown). making it TMac, Ben Brown and Jackson, with Fritsch and 2 smalls. I worry that we then won't apply enough pressure. Obviously talk of TMac going to wing (but then where does Brayshaw go)? Can deal with the problem when they are fit and ready i guess.

Weed said on the Gus and Gawny podcast that he will join in some training this week and look to play in the practice match in the VFL the week before round 1.  He mentioned that Brown was on track to play VFL rd 1 also.  So the VFL forward line for their rd 1 clash will consist of Ben Brown, Weed, Daw and Mitch Brown.  Good luck stopping that if they get enough supply.

Personally i think the Weideman/ Jackson is a good problem to have, as they both are  learning their  craft, with an edge in versatility  to Jackson around the ball and to Weideman with goal kicking. Their strengths being capitalized on from up  field by the correct players will be commonplace hopefully this season.

Would appear to be the only spot.

one things for sure, we won't be dropped T Mac if he keeps up this form.  I expect him to get better over the nextr couple of weeks as his confidence grows too

Hopefully none of the Media trash try to unsettle our lineups.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full
