Life can be terribly unfair sometimes and my sympathies go out to the young man.

As an aside, it's disappointing that the club's article linked above kept spelling his name wrong.

One topic you don’t want to see as ‘Hot’.

Bloody hell, a third time before Aaron even got a chance to play one game. Cruel, cruel, cruel.

This must be Vanders first pre-season in about 4 years not starting in the rehab group. Hopefully he and Nietschke will have uninterrupted pre-seasons this time around.

Agreed. I thought we missed Vanders in the praccy match against the Tigers. His impact (take that as you may) was sorely needed on a couple of opposition smart Are Says in their lineup. He instils a team-wide element of determination commonly known as 'mongrel' where brave contests might be calling ... and we needed his straightline forward entries, as well. Few take him on, so to speak.

We might need more recruits through SSP Supplemental top up program.  I’d definitely be looking at Angus Baker (who was training with the Dons) and Will Bravo (who is training with the Hawks).

On last years form Milkshake doesn't deserve a place in Round1. IMO he will have to produce form above his 2019 and 2020 average  (Or best ). Not good Enough and experience and tagging role drummed up to keep him in is not good enough.

I'd reckon Milkshake is aware of the clamour for him to earn a spot in the team and would expect him to bear this ever-present in his mind. He is an asset when on song - a very good asset to the team and to much-needed scoring opportunities.

SEN talking about bringing in a Chocco boy from Werribee called Kye Declase. invited to train today. Tall defender. 195cm. Most improved player for them last year apparently.

Three spots now available on the list.  Given the injury curse so far, we will need more foot soldiers for 2021.

I think it is four.  Two carryover post draft plus LTI:  Hore and Nieta.

So additional players could be Majak, Deakyn, Farmer jr and Declase.  Not sure we need another defender unless a current one eg Petty/Smith is to play fwd.  But would trust Choco's judgement of talent.

If it is 4, you'd assume they may keep one up their sleeve for mid-season?

vanders is a btec viney and we missed he/brayshaw more than vanders as inside mids as they offer more with ball in hand whilst also having his attack on the ball, particularly JV

tim lamb was adamant we would take a pick to the MSD given covid affected season in vic and the tendency for top players to come from obscurity in their 18th year. David Noble was also on and he said north didn't even bother with trainon players and will take their spot to the MSD where theyd get you'd imagine 1st/2nd crack

I wasn't suggesting we should use all 4 spots.  I was responding to a poster to say there are 4 spots, rather than 3, so there is room for all 4 players currently training with us IF the club wanted.

Demons midfielder Jack Viney is facing an uphill battle to return from foot surgery for round one, but Angus Brayshaw will play in a VFL practice match this weekend as he makes his bid to play in the season opener. Kysaiah Pickett should also be in the frame, with the exciting forward to return to Victoria on Sunday after being allowed to travel to Perth for personal reasons due to a family bereavement. Jake Melksham is another that has his eyes set on a round one return, having dealt with a hamstring complaint. Key forward duo Ben Brown (knee) and Sam Weideman (leg) will both miss the opening stages of the season and could still be around two months away in their recoveries. Meanwhile, youngster Aaron Nietschke is set to miss the entire season after cruelly rupturing his ACL for the third time. – Riley Beveridge

In an interview discussed here:

Goodwin said of B.Brown and Weideman:  "They're both on track, pretty much in line with each other..."we'll have to manage that as a team. They'll both obviously come back through the VFL, so we'll get a good indication as to when they're ready to play AFL footy."

So whatever the time frame is it applies to both and we may not see them in the seniors for quite a while..

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
